PROLUGE

My phone rings from the bedside table and I tiredly pick it up without looking at the caller ID . Who would be foolish enough to disturb my beauty sleep?

"Hello?"

There was sobbing on the other side of the line.

I squint my eyes against the glare of my phone and see an unknown number.

"Who is this and why are you calling me at such an ungodly hour?"

I was annoyed at this person for waking me up from my deep slumber.

It was probably one of my friends who had gotten drunk at a party and was having an emotional breakdown. If so they were unlucky because I wasn't one for comforting people.

It was Friday night, after all. Most of the people at our school were probably out partying until they couldn't remember their own names and yet here I was, sulking because of the argument I had earlier today.

"I-Im so sorry." I instantly jump out of bed once I recognize the voice. It was one I would know even in my sleep.

"Del? Is that you?"

She wasn't one to do stupid things and that only made me more worried. Stupid things were for me and the others to do. She was tge mother among us who was always getting us out of trouble. But today it sounded like she was in trouble instead.

"Y-Yes. It's me."

Her voice sounded hoarse and shaky, as if she'd been crying for a long time.

"Where are you? Did you get into some kind of trouble?" I put my phone on speaker and start dressing up.

She doesn't respond but only sobs harder. My heart hurt even worse and I panicked harder.

"Where are you? I'll try to get there as soon as possible." I rush downstairs.

"Please... don't." She pleads.

I stop dead in my tracks.

"What do you mean? Tell me where you are, quick!" I scream into the phone. My hands were shaking.

God please let her be alright.

Her words earlier today keep repeating in my head. I should have been more attentive!

We had been talking about random things and she had suddenly asked what would happen if she suddenly disappeared. She asked me to be happy if that ever happened.

I had laughed it off then because our lives were going good and there was no reason for trouble to come looking for us. Now I wanted to slap myself.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

She cries into the phone and it scares the hell out of me.

What did she have to be sorry for?

I open the door and only then do I realise it had been raining heavily.

There's a flash of lightning followed by a clap of thunder.

"Please don't ever forget me. I love you. So much." She whispers and then there's a click.

The phone slips from my hand and breaks on the floor. Just like my life afterwards.

Chapter 1

~ ELIZABETH JOHNSON ~

I knock on the door of the office.

"Come in."

There's a man sitting on the chair. He seems to be in his mid thirties and had dirty blonde hair and green eyes.

He seems preety good looking. Not at all like how I'd imagined a highschool principal would look like.

"Please have a seat." He motions to the chair opposite him.

I sit down and give him my brightest smile.

"So, have I been accepted?"

"Elizabeth Johnson right?"

He looks at a file probably filled with information about me.

"Yes, that's me."

"I heard you were in a lot of trouble in your previous highschool?"

"That was in the past. Now I'm a changed person. I promise. "

Promises are only made to be broken.

"I'll be keeping a close watch on you. Your grades seem pretty good in spite of hardly ever attending classes. "

He seems pretty impressed.

"Does this mean I've been accepted?" I smile widely.

"I don't have any reason not to. Welcome to Westwood Academy." He gives me a warm smile.

" Thank you so much. I promise to be on my best behavior."

He chuckles as I stand up and leave the office. I feel his eyes watching me curiously the whole time but I don't bother to turn around.

After all, I knew the reason.

I enter the school gates with dread. Is it too late to turn back now?

Sure, I was excited, but I didn't want to mess it up as well. Like I always do.

Calm down. It's a normal highschool, you don't need to be scared and...and..

Okay, I admit it was definitely NOT just some highschool. It was one of the most prestigious schools in the country filled with spooled, rich brats.

Not everyone though. Some had gotten here through their hardwork and I truly respected them.

'But you're definitely not one of them. '

I roll my eyes at my own sub conscious. It loved to put me down at all times.

Anyways, back to the point, yes, it was a 'normal' highschool but it was definitely not ordinary. And it was riskier. Because if I messed up, the damage would be far greater.

I walk down the hallways to find everyone looking in my direction and whispering.

Did the rumours reach them already?

But then I realise that their gazes were not directed towards me.

I turn around to see a group of four boys walking towards me without a care for all the people practically falling at their feet.

That was embarrassing.

I quickly move out of their way and blend in with the crowd.

There were three guys in all. One had brown hair and brown eyes. The next had blonde hair and blue eyes. The last guy had black hair and green eyes.

But one thing they all had in common was that they were all attractive as hell.

I look at the crowd and see that everyone has lowered their eyes to the ground. I have no idea what's going on but I don't want to get into any kind of trouble so I do the same.

The group of boys disappear and everybody noticeably relaxes. They were probably the typical bad boys of the school. The ones you want to stay clear of blah blah.

I'm starting to sound like one of those female protagonist in those cliché books.

I don't really know why I do that though, talking in my head as if I'm narrating a story. I'm doing it again.

I sigh and look down at the paper handed to me by the office. Locker no ****

I finally spot my locker at the end of the hallway and yank it open. It's bare and would probably need some decorations.

Someone taps my shoulder and I instantly stiffen. I turn around and relax to see that it's only Aiden.

"Gosh! You scared me!" I punch his arm lightly.

"Your fault for always being so stiff. Sometimes you just need to relax."

I glare at him.

"Anyways why didn't you wait for me? I told you I'd be picking you up right?" He tries to fake nonchalance but I see the worry in his eyes.

"And I clearly said you didn't need to."

He simply gives a defeated sigh and pulls me by my arm.

"Hurry up or we'll be late to class. Don't want detention on the first day do we?"

I smile and follow him.

He knew just how far to push me. He understood me better than anyone and that's why I loved him.

He was my bestfriend after all.

And I wouldn't give him up for the world.
