Oh David. Just calm down. If you do as I say, you won't have to go through all of this
David
What did I do to deserve this from you? Why are you doing this to me?
General
Stop complaining. Be grateful I only decided to go for just one round. Now, get up and go to your cell before I change my mind
David
You are a monster. I hate you
General
And I love you. That is why I am not going to share you with anybody. You are going to be mine and only mine
David
How did I get myself in this mess? Why did I get myself in this in the first place?
General
Ugh! You are beginning to bore me. I'm out of here
Prison officer 1
Hurry up, Parker. I don't have all day
Prison officer 2
So annoying. Did you actually think you could get away after what you did?
Both of them begin to laugh
David just remained quiet and followed the first prison officer while the other marched behind him
He was in his prison uniform with handcuffs around his wrist
His face was moody. He had been crying for a long time
After following the officers, they stopped at a cell
The first prison officer opened the door to the cell and removed the handcuffs
Prison officer 1
(pushing David inside the cell) Get in there! This place is going to be your new home. I hope you enjoy the place
They both laughed and left
David stood at a corner while he looked down. His face had been wet with tears. He did not even notice the man in the room
Sebastian
Hey! Are you okay?
David looks up and sees a man as young as him staring back at him with a worried look on his face
He shook his head lightly and looked down again.
The young man, Sebastian walked towards him with his hand outstretched towards David
David
(slowly taking sebastian's hand) David
Sebastian
Nice to meet you David. Hey, why don't we sit down? I don't think you want to be standing there all day looking like a lost puppy now, do you?
David followed him towards the bunk bed and sat on the lower part of the bed while sebastian sat beside him
Sebastian
So, what brought you here? Did you kill someone?
David
(Almost chuckling) That would have been better especially if the victim was me
David
I really wish things had not turned the way it had. Like all of this wouldn't have happened.
Sebastian
Hey! Don't cry. It's okay. I don't think what you did is that bad
David
I did the most terrible thing and I don't think I will be forgiven even if I spend the rest of my life here
Sebastian
I'm sorry to hear that.
David
So, what brought you here?
Sebastian
It's a long story. And I will be willing to tell you about it if only you are ready to hear it
David
Well, I don't think I have any other choice.

You see, I'm an orphan

And I have a little brother

One day he fell sick. I tried everything I could but he was not getting better

So, I walked into a pharmacy one day and stole some drugs to help my dying brother. But, I was caught

That's terrible. So, what about your brother? Is he okay?

I'm sorry to hear that. What happened to you and your brother is terrible
Sebastian
Yeah. But that's life. It's really unfair
David
So, how long are you going to be here?
David
What?! But that's not right
Sebastian
Has anything been right in this country. Because I had money to get a lawyer, they decided to do whatever they wanted.
David
Your story is sad. I'm sorry about that
David
Maybe I can ask my lawyer to...
Sebastian
What is out there for me? Nothing. I don't have a family, parents or even a home. I have nothing out there
David
Don't talk like that
Sebastian
That's how it is
Sebastian
Being here is actually good for me. At least, it will help me decide what next to do
Then they heard a noise. Like somebody was hitting the metal bars with something
They both whipped their heads to the direction of the voice
Sebastian
What are you doing here, General?
General
Watch your mouth boy. I did not come here for you
Sebastian
It's evening already and it's almost lights out. Why are you suddenly here?
General
As I said, I'm not here for you so shut it
General
You, however are the reason for my visit
David
Me? I'm sorry but am I in some sort of trouble?
David was scared a bit. But tried not to show it. He was standing, while he faced the man who had suddenly appeared out of nowhere
General
I'm General. The prison warden. I came here to see you and to welcome you
General
Since it's your first night here, I won't take much of your time. See you around
Sebastian
Don't go near that man, ever
David
(sitting down on the bed again) who is he?
Sebastian
He is the warden of this place
Sebastian
Also, he is bad news
Sebastian
Don't go anywhere near him
David
You sound like you hate him
Sebastian
I do. He is evil
Sebastian
And I do not want him setting his eyes on you
David
Okay. I won't go anywhere near him
David
I will try to stay far away from him
Somewhere within the prison yard
Billy
Have you met him yet?
General
Oh, he is a good catch, alright
Cortez
So, what are you planning on doing with him?
General
I have a lot of plans for him. But for now, I will have to keep an eye on him
Billy
You are so sneaky, boss.
General
I will soon have him eating in my palms
Work for me
Early the next morning, David, Sebastian and the other prisoners were all released from their cells to come outside for some air
They had already taken their breakfast and were seated at the basketball court, watching the others play
David was still sad. But, he had realised he could trust Sebastian, so decided to warm up to him
As they sat they enjoying the game, two people sebastian did not want to see walked up to them
Cortez
(pointing to David) the boss will like to have a word with you
Sebastian
Why does he want to see David?
Billy
It's none of your business, Sebastian
Sebastian
Everything that has to do with David is my business. So, I ask again, why is he looking for him?
The tension was making David very uncomfortable
David
Erm, Seb. it's okay. Let me go and see why he wants to see me
Sebastian
No! You are not going anyway
Billy
Let me remind you that, General is the authority here. And he can decide anything without having your say.
Billy
So, stay out of this
David
Sebastian. it's okay. I will be back soon
David
Don't worry. I will be fine.
David
(facing the two men) Where is he?
David got up and followed the two men as Sebastian helplessly watched on.
David followed the two men yo a building. It was an office. The building looked old but was still strong.
They all went inside and david gasped in surprise
The office was very beautiful and we'll furnished. A man was seated by the desk when they entered
He was writing something in a file
Then, he looked up and smiled
General
(looking at the other men in the room) Leave us
The two men obeyed and left David alone with General
David
I was told you wanted to speak to me?
General
How are you doing?
General
Hm. Hope you slept well?
General
So, I guess you are wondering why I asked you to come here
General got up from his desk and walked towards David. He began circling him making David very uncomfortable
He finally stopped and stood in front of David
General
I asked you to come here because I know how hard it is when you come here for the first time
General
This place, can be very dangerous. Lots of people have lost their lives here because they did not have enough protection
General
So, I have decided to give you my protection. Once you are under my protection, no one will try to bother you or hurt you
David
So, what do I have to do for that? I am sure there is something you will like me to do to earn that protection from you, right?
General smiled and david found his heart beating even faster
There is something about the man that put him on edge.
General
Well, I will like you to work for me
David
Work for you? What work are you talking about?
