The Shawn family was nothing special. Mr. Shawn worked for a company as a manager. Mr. and Mrs. Shawn were blessed with three children. Angelica, Dill and Aster. Dill had a special aura around him, what do you know? He was the only son. It was no big deal though. They were a happy family. They did not own any house, they lived in a rental apartment. Small but cozy.
As a child, Aster was always different than other girls. She liked to play soccer and cricket. Playing with dolls? Nah, not her style. So she always befriended boys, of all age. She played with them every afternoon. Other girls would sneer. They called her Boy-Girl. But who cares, really? Soccer was more important than what other people say.
Aster- Hey, big brother Ryan, I want to be in your team.
Dill- Why? You always try to be in his team. You scared to play? (Cause Ryan is exceptionally good at soccer)
Aster- It’s not like that! I just want because we are always a team. *tensed inside*
Ryan- Ha Ha, it’s okay. We are always a team.
That was some common scene anyway. Everyone knew why she teamed up with him. It's because she was still a child. You cannot play against those adults who are literally double of your size! So it was only fair.
Those years were the best time of her life. She had parents who play with her, she had siblings who would spoil her, she had her soccer. But does life always go like this?
No, everything changes gradually. Soon after Aster completed her primary school, at around age 10, her family moved to a new place. This place was no fun, nothing like the old house with lots of free places to play. It was in a busy city area. You would think, heh, why would a girl in junior high need a field or soccer? But you don’t know, soccer is always important.
Aster went to a girls' school. It was a really big and famous school. Good point- it had really large ground to play, bad point- none of the girls would play soccer or cricket. They would play simple running around or gossip. And this was the beginning of Aster's change.
She soon found girls were fun too. They discussed lots of topics she previouly didn’t know. Like- menstruation! Now don’t just laugh! Boys don’t have it and her family was always on guard not to talk about the "taboos". Before, Aster woul always sad cause she had to use the toilet while her teammates (the boys) would just go to a corner. But after knowing about menstruation she felt somewhat satisfied like- yeah, we girls have something special too. Now what exactly is menstruation didn’t matter. It's something you should say in signal language when some girl would stop coming to school for couple of days.
Days were going fine like this, everyday learning something new. Well, at least until the famous visit to the Salvia Island.
