The beach was quiet that night. Calm and still beneath the soft glow of the moon. The sand felt cold beneath my bare feet. Gentle waves rolled in and out, glowing faintly - like the ocean was breathing in its sleep. A cold breeze whispered past, carrying the salty scent of the sea.
I was sitting on a swing. Slowly swaying back and forth, listening to the soft rhythm of the sea.
There was a deep silence. Almost no one was around.
I got up from the swing, brushing the sand off, and decided to take a walk by the shore.
I was shivering, my hands were freezing. But for some reason... I have always loved winter.
As I walked, I noticed lights in the distance - soft music, warm laughter.
I wanted to walk away, but something pulled me closer.
Not fear.
Something else...
Curiosity? Or was it something I couldn't explain.
I walked up and rang the doorbell.
A woman in her opened the door, with a sweet smile. "What are you doing there? Come join us" she said gently and with comforting voice.
I gave an awkward smile and hesitated but then stepped in.
The music was soft, people were dancing and laughing. It looked like they are having a great time.
Everything looked... Normal.
Except for one thing.
In the corner, sitting quietly with a doll in her lap was a little girl.
Two braids, a pale blue dress, and big doe eyes that shimmered in the dim light.
She looked fimilar.
Too... Fimilar.
I walked over and sat beside her. She looked up, and her eyes lit up with joy.
"Sissy! Remember me? Wanna play? I missed you so much."
I blinked.
"sissy?" I whispered, "But I don't... I don't have a sister ".
Her smile faded. Tears welled in her eyes. "But... I am your sister. You... Forgot me..." she whispered.
I looked around. Something felt off.
The people... are they even alive? They weren't acting like real people. I turned back to the girl.
"Is there something wrong with them or the party? What do you think?" I asked.
She nodded slowly.
"They are not alive "she said, "and... neither am... I"
Something on the wrist glinted in the light, a bracelet.
I think... I have seen it before.
Flashbacks hit me.
She was... My sister, Stella.
We were in the car. I was driving. She was playing with her doll.
There was a crash. A terrible crash.
She didn't make it.
And I... Lost my memory.
My parents never told me.
But they mourned silently.
And I always felt something missing - a space in my heart I could never fill. The invisible scar I could never explain. Tears spilled down my cheeks. I hugged her tightly.
"It's been 3 years" she said softly. "I just wanted to play with you again."
We played, one last time.
After that, she began to disappear slowly in the air.
Her smile never faded.
I stood there crying, not sad, just happy to see my sister one last time. And she is finally free.
I walked back to the beach. Sat on the swing once more. The wind brushed past me like a hug.
I looked up at the sky.
The stars twinkled brightly.
And I knew - the brightest star was... Was her, Stella.
