# **Eclipse Hunters – Episode 1: “The Boy Who Survived”**

*Part 1: Shadows at the Door*

The world was never meant to be this dark.

That is what the elders whispered, what the priests prayed, and what the children feared as they fell asleep each night under the pale glow of the last sun.

Long ago, there had been two suns. The Golden Sun that gave warmth and life, and the Black Sun that shone in twilight, protecting mankind from the abyss of night. But the Black Sun vanished, and with it came the shadows.

From those shadows, monsters were born. They were called **Umbras**.

They had no mercy, no voices, only hunger.

The Umbras tore through villages, clawed through cities, and devoured men, women, and children. They grew larger with every life consumed. Only within the towering walls of the Citadels of Light, where massive crystal towers burned against the darkness, did humanity cling to survival.

But not all were so fortunate.

### **The Village of Eirenfall**

Ren Arclight was ten years old when he learned that the shadows had his name written in them.

His village, Eirenfall, lay just beyond the reach of the Citadel of Light’s barrier. The walls of the great city rose far in the distance like a mountain of stone and steel, but to a boy living among fields and rivers, it might as well have been another world.

That night, Ren had been helping his sister carry buckets of water from the well. His sister, **Mira**, was only twelve but carried herself like their late mother—stern, careful, protective.

“Hold it steady, Ren,” she scolded gently as he sloshed half the bucket onto the dirt road.

Ren stuck out his tongue. “It’s heavy. Why do I have to do this every night?”

“Because Father says you’ll never grow strong if you keep complaining.”

Ren groaned but didn’t argue further. He always lost against Mira’s sharp tongue. The smell of warm bread drifted from their house down the lane, and for a moment, all felt safe. Their father, a carpenter, had promised to tell them a story after supper. Their little village, though humble, was filled with laughter.

But then—

The bell tower began to ring.

A low, dreadful sound that froze the blood in Ren’s veins.

Mira’s eyes widened. “No… not tonight.”

From the far fields came the **screams**.

Ren dropped the bucket, water spilling like blood across the dirt. Over the rooftops, black shapes began to rise—shadows with glowing, jagged mouths. **Umbras.**

The village guards shouted orders, steel clashing, torches flaring to life. But the shadows were too fast. One of the creatures leapt onto a thatched roof, claws tearing through it as a family screamed inside. Another crashed through the wooden gate, scattering villagers like dolls.

“Ren! Run!” Mira shouted, grabbing his wrist.

They sprinted toward their home, weaving through panicked crowds. Father was already outside, eyes wide with terror, holding a woodcutter’s axe.

“Get inside, now!” he roared.

Ren stumbled as Mira shoved him toward the cellar door. Their father pulled it open and pushed both children inside.

“Stay quiet. Don’t open the door until the bells stop,” he whispered.

“Father—!” Ren started, but the man slammed the door shut.

Through the cracks in the wood, Ren could see flashes of light outside—fire from torches, the silver glow of the moon. Then, the sound of **tearing wood**. A monstrous growl.

And then—his father’s scream.

Ren’s heart pounded. He pressed against the door, but Mira grabbed him, holding him back.

“Don’t! Stay here, Ren!” she whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks.

The door exploded inward.

An Umbra forced its way through, its body a mass of writhing black tendrils shaped into the rough outline of a beast. Its mouth stretched wide, dripping shadow like tar.

Mira shoved Ren behind her. “Run!”

The creature’s claw lashed out. Mira’s body flew across the cellar, striking the stone wall with a sickening crack.

Ren screamed, his small hands trembling as he picked up a fallen knife. The Umbra’s eyes—two burning slits—fixed on him.

It lunged.

Ren raised the knife, tears blurring his vision. “Stay away!”

The claw pierced through his chest.

He gasped, expecting death, but… the pain was strange. Burning, but not fading. His blood spilled, but the wound **closed** before his eyes.

The Umbra froze. Its claw still inside him, yet Ren did not fall. His small hands gripped the shadowy limb, and in that moment, his reflection appeared in the creature’s black surface.

His own eyes—glowing faintly **purple**.

The Umbra hesitated. For the first time, a monster stopped.

And then, slowly, it withdrew. It tilted its head, as if recognizing something, before vanishing into the shadows.

Ren collapsed beside Mira’s body, shaking, sobbing. He clutched her cold hand until the bells finally ceased and the night grew quiet.

When the Citadel’s soldiers arrived at dawn, they found only ruins. And one boy, his eyes lifeless, staring at the sunrise.

Ren Arclight, the boy who should have died, had survived.
