She was a maiden with many qualities but her beauty become the cause of her downfall..

Medusa was one of the three Gorgon sisters, and she was the only one who was mortal. She was a beautiful maiden with lovely hair and a stunning face. However, one day her beauty caught the eyes of Poseidon the god of sea , and he deeply fell in love with her beauty.

Medusa's beauty and Poseidon's affection for her led to a problem. Poseidon rapes medusa in Athena's temple. Medusa was innocent. Athena, the goddess of wisdom, was outraged by this act and transformed Medusa into a monster .

As a punishment, Athena turned Medusa's beautiful hair into snakes, and her face became so hideous that anyone who looked at her would be turned to stone. Medusa's gaze became known as the "Gorgon's gaze," and it was feared by all.

Medusa's transformation made her a recluse, and she lived in isolation, afraid to show her face to anyone. However, her fate was sealed when King Polydectes of Seriphos Island sent the hero Perseus to kill her.

Perseus was aided by the gods, particularly Athena and Hermes. He received a mirrored shield, winged sandals, and a helmet of invisibility to help him defeat Medusa. Perseus approached Medusa while looking at her reflection in his shield, avoiding her deadly gaze. He then beheaded her, and from her neck sprang the winged horse Pegasus.

Medusa's head was taken by Perseus and used as a powerful weapon. Eventually, he gave it to Athena, who placed it on her shield, the Aegis.
