More Than a Friend

More than a friend.

Charm and Min had been inseparable since the first week of college. They were the kind of duo everyone noticed — Min, quiet and thoughtful, always following Charm’s bright energy. Charm had a smile that could light up the dullest lecture hall, and Min had a heart that always followed that light.

But there was one problem.

Charm’s heart already belonged to someone else — Liana, their classmate and a mutual friend.

Liana was kind, soft-spoken, and she often joined the boys for lunch. Every time Charm talked about her, his eyes would sparkle. And every time Min saw that, his chest would tighten just a little more. He would smile anyway, pretending to tease Charm about being “love-struck,” while hiding his own feelings behind laughter.

As weeks turned into months, Min found himself doing little things for Charm — saving him a seat in the library, staying up late to help with projects, bringing him coffee before morning lectures. Charm always thanked him with that same gentle smile that Min both loved and hated.

One day, Min accidentally overheard Liana talking to her friend —

> “Charm’s really nice, but I only see him as a friend.”

It hit him harder than he expected. Charm, who had been dreaming about Liana, didn’t know. And Min couldn’t stand seeing him hurt.

That night, when they sat on the college rooftop, Charm told him softly,

> “I think I’m going to tell Liana I like her.”

Min’s hands trembled, but he forced a smile.

> “You should,” he said. “She’d be lucky.”

But after that night, Min couldn’t sleep. He didn’t want Charm to be rejected, but he also couldn’t bear to see him heartbroken.

The next day, Charm came to Min, quiet and pale.

> “She said she doesn’t feel the same.”

Min’s heart broke for him — and for himself. He pulled Charm into a hug, holding him tight as Charm’s voice cracked.

> “Why does it hurt so much, Min?”

> “Because you loved her honestly,” Min whispered. “And that’s never wrong.”

Days passed. Charm grew distant, trying to heal. Min stayed by his side silently, even when it hurt. But one afternoon, under the golden sunset on campus, Charm looked at Min differently.

> “You’ve always been here,” he said. “Even when I was stupidly chasing someone else.”

Min blinked, not understanding.

> “That’s what friends do, Charm.”

Charm smiled — a small, tender smile that made Min’s heart race.

> “Maybe I was too blind to see… you’ve been the one all along.”

Min’s breath caught.

> “Charm…”

Charm stepped closer, their fingers brushing.

> “I don’t want to lose you, Min. Not again, not ever.”

And when Min looked into his eyes, he saw something new — something real.

The sunset faded into soft twilight, and for the first time, Min didn’t have to hide his heart.

They stayed like that for a long while — laughing, talking, quietly existing in a world that finally felt right.

Because sometimes, love doesn’t need to be found.

It just needs to be noticed. 💛
