“Shadows of Desire”

Chapter 1 – Forming the Circle

The city hummed with life as neon lights flickered against the wet pavement. Seik walked with a measured pace, hands tucked into his jacket pockets, observing everything around him. Unlike most people in the bustling streets, he didn’t move with fear or hesitation—just focus. His mind was on one thing: Ravik, and the day he would finally settle the score.

It wasn’t a solo mission tonight. Seik had learned long ago that even the most precise plan could fail without allies. But he wasn’t the kind to “recruit” in the traditional sense. No speeches, no contracts—just a network of people he trusted, people who had shown themselves capable in their own ways.

First was Haejun. Seik found him leaning casually against a graffiti-covered wall in a narrow alley, sketchbook in hand. Haejun was lost in calculations, scribbling numbers and diagrams that seemed like nonsense to anyone else.

“You’re late,” Haejun said without looking up, eyes scanning the page. “I was starting to think you’d chickened out.”

Seik smirked. “You worry too much. I never miss a plan.”

Haejun finally looked up, one eyebrow raised. “And yet, here you are, just wandering the streets like everyone else.”

Seik ignored the tease and glanced around. “Keep your focus. We’ve got a situation downtown. Something that could tie into Ravik’s latest move.”

Haejun closed his sketchbook with a snap and fell into step beside him. Precise, quiet, analytical—he was the type who noticed details most would overlook. Seik appreciated that. In a mission, small things could mean life or death.

---

Next was Minho. Seik found him perched on the edge of a rooftop, juggling two metal bats and grinning like a fool.

“You’re late, Seik!” Minho called, tipping an imaginary hat. “I was beginning to think I’d have to fight Ravik alone.”

Seik rolled his eyes. “And I was beginning to think you’d trip over your own feet before we even started.”

Minho laughed, a loud, infectious sound that echoed through the narrow streets below. “Ah, come on, life’s too short to be serious all the time! Plus, it keeps me sharp.”

Seik shook his head, smiling faintly. Minho’s humor was chaotic, unpredictable, but it had its uses. In the right moment, his energy could throw off an enemy or break tension when it got too heavy.

“You ready to move?” Seik asked.

“For you? Always,” Minho said, vaulting off the edge of the rooftop and landing with a soft thud.

---

Finally, they met Ara. Seik found her leaning against a lamppost outside a café, her eyes scanning the crowd with sharp precision. She wasn’t hiding, but she could read people like an open book. Every movement, every glance, every hesitation—nothing escaped her notice.

“Seik,” she said smoothly, her lips curling into a sly smile. “I assume Haejun and Minho have arrived on schedule?”

Seik nodded. “Exactly.”

Ara tilted her head, eyes glinting. “Good. Because if we’re doing this, we need to know exactly who we’re working with. I can spot weaknesses, but I need reliable people around me.”

“You’re reliable enough,” Seik said, nodding. “I trust them.”

Ara smirked. “We’ll see.”

---

The four of them moved together through the city streets, a strange but effective team. Haejun calculated paths and potential escape routes, Ara noticed every surveillance camera and patrol, and Minho… well, Minho made jokes even as he helped them climb fences and leap over obstacles. Seik observed quietly, noting who relied on whom and how each reacted under stress.

Their target tonight was a small tech company rumored to be laundering money for Ravik. Nothing flashy yet—just reconnaissance—but it was a step toward something bigger.

They arrived at a darkened alley behind the building. Haejun crouched, examining a tiny map on his tablet. “The main entrance is guarded, cameras on the second floor, motion sensors near the windows. There’s a back door here…” He tapped the screen. “Least defended. We can get inside undetected if we move carefully.”

Minho grinned. “I like the quiet approach. Less drama. Usually.”

Ara rolled her eyes. “Less drama for you, maybe. You’re still going to trip on something.”

Seik ignored the banter, crouching beside them and scanning the area. “We move in pairs. Haejun and I take the front. Minho and Ara cover the rear. We stay connected through comms. Clear?”

“Crystal,” Haejun said, already setting up his devices.

Minho gave a thumbs-up. “Loud and clear. Now, let’s make this fun.”

Ara shot him a sharp glance. “Fun’s optional.”

---

Inside the building, the team moved like a single organism. Haejun led them with calculated precision, disabling cameras and quietly neutralizing guards. Ara pointed out hidden sensors and patterns they would have missed alone. Minho improvised when a guard unexpectedly stepped into their path, using distractions and quick reflexes to keep things under control.

Seik followed, calm and measured, noting every detail. He didn’t speak much—but when he did, it was decisive, guiding the team with quiet authority. For all their personalities and quirks, they worked together seamlessly.

By the time they reached the end of the night, they had the intel they needed and had left without a trace. Walking back through the city streets, the group was silent for a moment. A sense of accomplishment hung in the air, but there was also a quiet understanding: this was just the beginning.

Seik glanced at his friends, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “We’re ready,” he said simply. “This is only the start. Ravik won’t know what’s coming.”

Haejun nodded, calculating already for the next steps. Minho grinned, joking about how dramatic the mission felt. Ara smirked, analyzing everything silently but approvingly.

None of them knew it yet—but the next member would change everything. Salva was still out there, unknown, unpredictable, and dangerous.

For now, though, the circle was forming. And together, they were stronger than they had ever been alone.
