Cooking With Friends

The Secret Ingredient Is Chaos!

---

Chapter 1 — “The Secret Ingredient Is Chaos!”

The kitchen classroom buzzed with noise — sizzling pans, clattering utensils, and the smell of something that was probably edible.

Mina Akiyama stood proudly in front of the stove, spatula in hand, her ponytail bouncing as she grinned.

“Alright! Let’s fry this up perfectly, team!”

Across the counter, Kenta growled, sharpening his knife like he was preparing for a battle instead of chopping vegetables.

“Tch. You said that last time, and the omelet tried to fight back.”

Mina pouted. “That was one time! You never let things go!”

“Because you nearly burned my eyebrows off!” he snapped.

“Maybe you should stand farther away then!”

“Maybe you should learn to cook without summoning fire!”

Their argument was cut off by a soft “Eep~!” as Rin, the pink-haired helper, dropped a bowl of flour that exploded into a white cloud around her.

She blinked through it, giggling nervously. “Ahaha… it’s snowing in the kitchen~ uwu.”

Takumi, the calm one with glasses, looked up from his cutting board with the same unshakable patience of a saint.

“Rin, flour doesn’t belong in the soup. Or… on the ceiling.”

Rin blinked up at the ceiling. “Oh… oops.”

Takumi sighed quietly, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose.

“Every time I cook with you three, I lose a little more faith in humanity.”

Mina grinned. “Aww, come on, Takumi! Cooking’s supposed to be fun!”

“For most people, yes,” he said flatly. “For us, it’s survival.”

---

The teacher clapped his hands. “Alright, students! Today’s test is simple. Create a full meal using only one burner!”

The room erupted in chaos as everyone scrambled for ingredients. Mina cracked her knuckles. “One burner? No problem! I’ll fry up something amazing!”

Kenta snorted. “You’ll fry the classroom again if we’re not careful.”

“Say that again, shrimp!” she yelled, glaring down — slightly, since Kenta was half her height.

He glared right back. “I’ll say it again after I win this cooking test!”

Rin bounced happily. “Ooh, I’ll make it cute and sparkly!”

Takumi didn’t even look up. “Please, for the love of cuisine, no glitter this time.”

---

Within minutes, the room descended into beautiful disaster.

Rin was humming as she poured sugar into what was clearly supposed to be soup.

Kenta was chopping vegetables so aggressively it looked like an action scene.

Mina was flipping something in her frying pan, shouting, “Flip of destiny!” as oil splattered everywhere.

And Takumi… just stood there, watching it all.

He caught a falling pot with one hand, stirred his sauce with the other, and muttered, “You people are the culinary equivalent of a natural disaster.”

The teacher passed by, raising an eyebrow at the mess.

Mina held up her pan proudly. “See? Perfectly golden!”

The teacher stared. “That’s… on fire.”

Mina blinked. “Wait, it is?”

---

Somehow — through sheer willpower and luck — the group managed to pull something edible together.

It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t even the same color on all sides.

But when the teacher took a bite, he blinked, then smiled.

“It’s… surprisingly good,” he said.

The team gasped in shock.

“See?” Mina cheered. “I told you frying is my specialty!”

Takumi smirked faintly. “It’s edible. That’s progress.”

Kenta crossed his arms. “Hmph. I still say my chopping made the difference.”

Rin beamed. “Yay~ teamwork! We didn’t burn everything this time!”

---

As they cleaned up their flour-covered battlefield, Mina smiled at her friends.

“Hey… maybe cooking isn’t just about who’s the best. It’s about having fun together.”

Takumi adjusted his glasses. “And surviving.”

Kenta smirked. “And winning.”

Rin giggled. “And sparkles~!”

They all burst into laughter, the kitchen still smoky but full of warmth.

Mina raised her spatula like a hero lifting a sword.

“Next time, we’ll make something even better!”

And with that, their chaotic culinary adventure truly began.

Chapter 2 — “The Rival Team Appears!”

The next morning, the smell of fried eggs filled the air — and so did the sound of Mina’s triumphant shouting.

“YES! I flipped it! And it didn’t land on the ceiling this time!”

Kenta groaned, rubbing his temples. “That’s not something to celebrate, you maniac.”

Rin clapped cheerfully. “Yay~! Ceiling-free breakfast! You’re getting better, Mina-chan!”

Takumi stirred his coffee, unamused. “A competent fry-up is hardly an achievement worth yelling about at 7 a.m.”

Mina puffed up her cheeks. “Hey, progress is progress!”

---

Later that day, the class was buzzing with excitement.

A large poster hung on the board in glittery red letters:

> 🍱 SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENT!

Sakuraba Culinary Academy: Team Cook-Off Tournament!

Prize: A golden chef’s knife and one week of free lunch!

The entire room went silent for two seconds before exploding in chaos.

Kenta slammed his fist on the counter. “A tournament?! Finally! I can prove I’m the strongest chef here!”

Rin gasped. “Ooooh~ free lunch for a week?! That’s, like, heaven!”

Mina’s eyes sparkled like twin frying pans. “We’re totally joining!”

Takumi sighed. “Of course we are.”

---

As the team signed up, a voice interrupted them — smooth, confident, and a little too smug.

“Well, well… if it isn’t Team Chaos.”

The group turned around to see three students in pristine white uniforms.

Leading them was Reina Kisaragi, the top student in class — graceful, elegant, and terrifyingly calm.

She smirked. “I heard your last cooking session involved… fire alarms?”

Mina laughed awkwardly. “Heh, just a tiny fire alarm…”

Reina flipped her long hair. “I hope you’ve improved. Because in the cook-off, you’ll be facing us.”

Behind her stood Sota, her silent sous-chef with knives sharper than his words, and Emi, a nervous girl holding a tray like a shield.

Kenta’s grin widened. “Perfect. A real fight.”

Takumi corrected, “A cooking competition, not a duel.”

Kenta ignored him. “Same thing.”

---

The next day — competition day.

Crowds of students filled the gym-turned-kitchen-arena.

Each team had one hour to prepare a meal that impressed the judges.

Mina cracked her knuckles. “Okay, team! We’re making fried rice with flair!”

Rin saluted. “Hai~! I’ll handle decorations!”

Kenta flexed his knife hand. “I’ll chop faster than light!”

Takumi adjusted his glasses. “And I’ll make sure none of you destroy the school.”

Across the room, Reina and her team were perfectly synchronized, slicing, stirring, and plating.

Their movements looked like ballet.

Meanwhile, Mina’s team looked like… an earthquake with utensils.

---

“Ah! The rice is sticking!” Mina cried.

“That’s because you added too much oil!” Takumi scolded.

Rin accidentally dropped a flower-shaped carrot on the floor. “Oopsies~”

Kenta was arguing with the blender. “You think you can beat me, machine?! Bring it!”

Reina smirked as her team plated their dish flawlessly.

Mina clenched her fists. “We can still win! Cooking isn’t just about skill… It’s about the heart!”
