The air in the bentley was the scent of expensive leather and old money,a smell James had gotten used to during his final years of high school.
Now four years later,that scent felt like a blanket-warm and familiar,and a little stifling.
He had barely finished unpacking his stuffs from the truck when Mr,Harrington clapped him enthusiastically on the back
Dad
We're so proud of you,James.Full scholarship,top of your class.......
You did everything we thought you would 😊
Mrs,Harrington pulled him into a tight embrace,her diamond earrings sparkling under the mansion's porch lights.
Mom
A job offer waiting for you right out of uni! My dear boy ,it's all waiting for you😊
James was genuinely touched.He had deliberately kept a low profile during his college years,wanting to prove he could succeed without relying on their wealth.
He had worried that they might forget him,but clearly, they hadn't .
James
It feels good to be back home 😊
The entryway was grander than he remembered-soaring ceiling,a chandelier that cast fractured light,and the twin staircases curving up to the second floor

Wow a lot of things changed but you two didn't

He's been very focused on his studies.He's now in his second year of college now.
Mom

James remembered the younger boy he left behind: the sullen, rebellious Ace,who first hated him ,then reluctantly warmed to him,eventually becoming the only person James missed when he went away.
He remembered the quiet afternoon they spent looking at Ace's charcoal sketches- sketches the parents never bothered to look at and how Ace's face lit up when James said they were brilliant.

That was the constant nagging thought from his college years.
He'd purposefuly cut contact,wanting Ace to grow up without his shadow looming,without the pressure of having a designated "role model"hovering over him.
"Grow on your own" he had told Ace ."It's what is best for you"
He then realized,in the sudden,echoing silence of the hall,that he'd been wrong
Suddenly a figure decended down the stairs
This wasn't the scrawny teenager he remembered.
Episode 2
The young man standing before him was easily taller than James now,with broad shoulders stretching the fabric of his dark custom fit shirt.His hair was slightly longer,swept back off a face that had lost all it's boyish softness,replaced by sharp,elegant angles and jawline that could cut glass .
James
💭Wow he's much more handsome now.
But it was his eyes that stopped James cold-a glacial unwavering stare that held an unsettling maturity and a flicker of something dangerously proprietary.
He carried an aura of quiet potent intimidation.
Ace
*Leaned against the marble pillar*
His voice deeper,richer and completely flatter than James remembered.
It was a statement not a greeting.
James
*Chuckled nervously*Wow Ace,look at you.You've grown.
James
*Steps forward and reached out a hand*
Ace
*Glanced at James outstretched hand*
Ace
[His lips twisting in a faint,dry smile that didn't reach his eyes]
Ace
*Ignores the outstretched hand*

*Shifted his gaze to James worn suitcase resting on the floor*

*Withdrew his hand* It was great,a lot of hardwork.
James
But I missed you guys *slightly nervous*
Ace cut him off:the short,curt reply hitting James like a physical shove.
Ace
*Pushed himself off the pillar,straighted his expensive shirt and walked past James without another word*
He moved with a new, coiled confidence that James found completely unnerving.
Mr and Mrs Harrington exchanged a quick worried glance
Mom
James honey, don't mind him,he had a rough day😟
Dad
Don't take it to heart😔
As the sound of Ace's footsteps faded,a cold heavy sensation settled in James's gut.
He finally understood the weight of the change.He hadn't just left Ace to grow,he'd left him to evolve into something he no longer recognized: something colder and harder.
James
I should have not ignored him. *said to himself *
Introduction

A 20 year old artist,in his second year of college.He's the only child of the Harringtons.He has an intimidating aura that makes one become tensed.
