...CHAPTER ONE...

The grand hall of the conference center buzzed with the hum of eager conversations and the clinking of coffee cups. As I weaved through the crowd, my heart raced with a mix of excitement and nervousness. At 21, every medical conference felt like a new chapter in my journey, a chance to learn and forge connections that could shape my future.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Arturo, stood at the podium, his presence commanding the room. At six foot four, he was tall and striking, with a build that was broad but not overpowering. What caught my eye the most, though, were his eyes— one a deep, rich brown and the other a striking shade of blue. Heterochromia gave him an enigmatic allure that was hard to ignore.

As he spoke, his voice was calm yet powerful, drawing everyone in. I found myself captivated, not just by his words, but by the intensity of his gaze.

After the session, as I lingered near the refreshment table, our paths crossed. There was a moment of eye contact that sent a shiver down my spine, and I knew this will be more than just a simple introduction.

I clutched my notebook a little tighter as ! approached the refreshments table, trying to calm the sudden flutter in my chest. My thoughts were still tangled in Dr. Arturo’s words, the cadence of his voice echoing in my mind. And then, he was there-standing just a few feet away, holding a cup of coffee, his eyes briefly scanning the room before landing on me.

"Hello," he said, his voice low but smooth, carrying a weight that made it impossible to look away.

I swallowed, hoping I didn't look as flustered as ! felt. "Hi... Dr.Arturo. I really enjoyed your lecture," | managed, my voice slightly trembling despite my best effort.

He tilted his head slightly, studying me with that piercing gaze. "I’m glad. It's always encouraging to see young minds eager to learn. And you are...?" His tone was curious, not condescending, yet there was something in the way he spoke that felt... personal, almost like he could see through me.

"Drea... DreaThompson," I said, finally meeting his gaze fully. There was a strange pull in his eyes, an intensity that made it impossible not to notice the subtle smirk playing on his lips. My heart raced.

"Drea," he repeated, tasting the name, as if savoring it. "A pleasure to meet you. I hope this conference inspires you as much as it has me."

There was something magnetic about him, an almost dangerous allure that made my pulse quicken. I caught myself staring a moment too long, realizing my cheeks might be turning pink.

But before I could make an excuse to retreat, he added, "If you'd like, I could show you a few of the research projects that aren't on display yet.

Very few get a chance to see them."

The offer hung in the air like a challenge and an invitation all at once. I hesitated, excitement warring with caution. "I... l'd love that," | finally said, trying to sound composed.

And just like that, my ordinary day at a medical conference had turned into the beginning of something | could never have anticipated.

Something intense. Something enthralling.

WOAHHH….okay so we’re done with chapter one…..FINALLY

Please don’t forget to like, share and comment about what you think of this chapter. LOVE YOU ALL….❤️

CHAPTER TWO

He led the way through a quieter corridor behind the main exhibit hall, his long strides effortless, his posture commanding. I followed, my notebook clutched against my chest like a shield I didn't need but couldn't put down. The closer we walked, the more I noticed the small details….the way his fingers brushed the papers on the table without disturbing them, the faint scent of something crisp and masculine that seemed to linger in the air long after he passed.

"So," he began, his voice softer now, almost conspiratorial, "What draws you to medicine, Drea?

Most students I meet have a general interest, but I can tell you... you're curious about something specific."

I hesitated, unsure if I should reveal too much to someone l'd just met. But there was an intensity in his eyes that demanded honesty, even if I wasn't entirely aware of why. "I guess... I've always been fascinated by the mind, by understanding what drives people, and how to help them," | admitted. "There's so much we don't know. And I want to be part of discovering more."

He nodded, a small, knowing smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Curiosity is a dangerous thing," he said, almost under his breath. "It leads people to places they never thought they'd go... and sometimes to people they shouldn't meet."

The words sent a shiver down my spine, though I couldn't tell if it was excitement or unease. "I suppose... that's part of the journey, isn't it?" I replied, trying to sound confident even though my heart was racing.

He glanced at me then, and for a brief moment, the air between us felt charged, as if the world had narrowed to just the two of us. "Perhaps," he said quietly. "Or perhaps some journeys... don't have an end."

We arrived at a small lab tucked behind the main exhibition area. The dim lighting made the room feel intimate, and the research displays glimmered under the soft spotlights. "These projects," he explained, gesturing toward the tables, "are preliminary. Most people won't ever get a chance to see them. I like to give students a closer look... those who are truly attentive."

I leaned in, genuinely intrigued, but also aware of the way his gaze lingered on me. It wasn't casual.

There was an intensity there, a quiet scrutiny that was almost unnerving. Yet, despite that, or maybe because of it, I felt an inexplicable pull toward him.

As he walked me through the projects, pointing out intricate details and scientific nuances, I couldn't help but notice how meticulous he was, how every movement seemed precise, deliberate. It was... captivating. And maybe a little intimidating.

By the time we finished, my head was spinning— not just from the sheer amount of information, but from the awareness that Arturo had left an impression I wasn't sure I could shake.

He offered a final glance, and that smile, subtle yet dangerous, lingered longer than it should have. "I hope this was worth your time, Drea. And perhaps... we'll meet again."

I nodded, my voice catching slightly. "I... I hope so too."

And as I walked back into the crowded conference hall, I realized that something about Dr. Arturo had already begun to consume my thoughts.
