Chapter One – The Vampire in the Cage

The largest auction hall in the kingdom was alive with whispers, the air heavy with perfume, greed, and curiosity. Chandeliers lit the grand chamber, and hundreds of nobles filled the rows of velvet seats. At the very front, a man in fine silks commanded the stage, his voice smooth and proud as he presented treasures one after another.

But then—he smiled in a way that made the crowd lean forward.

“Ladies and gentlemen, prepare yourselves. What you are about to see… is no ordinary treasure. This is something truly unique.”

A flash of magic cracked through the air.

A cage appeared on the stage, glowing faintly with seals. Inside sat a boy—no, not just a boy. Silver hair spilled down his shoulders like moonlight, ears sharp, red eyes burning with restrained fury. A gag muffled his voice, and though thin and weak from hunger, his beauty was undeniable.

The crowd gasped.

“Impossible.”

“A vampire?”

“How could they catch one alive—?”

Whispers turned to stunned silence.

High above them all, seated alone in his private couch, the King of the land, Vexin Keal, leaned forward. His black eyes locked on the figure in the cage, and for the first time that night, something stirred in his calm, unreadable gaze.

The auctioneer bowed with theatrical flourish.

“Yes, honored guests, what you see here is a vampire—rare, powerful, dangerous. It took tremendous effort and… a great number of men to place him in this seal cage. And now, he belongs to the highest bidder—”

Before he could finish, a smooth, steady voice cut across the hall.

“I’ll take him.”

The auctioneer froze. The nobles turned as one, but the moment they saw who had spoken, they quickly looked away.

The King himself had claimed him.

Vexin didn’t even raise his voice. He simply rested one elbow on the arm of his couch and repeated calmly, “Send him to me.”

No one dared challenge him.

Inside the cage, the boy’s red eyes snapped toward that voice. Rage flickered there—rage, humiliation, pride. He wanted to snarl, to curse the man, but the gag made it impossible. All he could do was glare with trembling fury.

Who does this human think he is?

To buy me… like I’m nothing but an object…

His claws scratched uselessly at the floor of the cage.

Later, in the King’s private chamber, the auctioneer himself delivered the sealed cage. A servant laid a heavy purse of gold on the table, the King’s payment.

“My Lord, the vampire,” the auctioneer announced with pride.

Vexin rose from his couch with measured grace. His voice was low, commanding.

“Open it. Leave the rest to me.”

The men hesitated, but when he glanced at them, they scrambled out, bowing their way to the exit. The hall fell silent, save for the faint rustle of chains inside the cage.

Vexin stepped closer. His gaze softened—not kind, but curious—as he lifted his hand and summoned a thread of black magic.

“Let’s make sure you cannot run.”

A seal glowed faintly as a collar of darkness wrapped around the vampire’s neck, vanishing from sight the moment it locked. Only Vexin and the vampire could see it. The boy’s eyes widened, glowing with fury as he tried to claw it off, but his body was weak from long confinement.

He stumbled, panting, as the cage door opened with a click.

In a blur, he darted for the window, tail flashing behind him, but— crack! —the collar yanked him back mid-leap, sending him crashing down onto the carpet.

“…Tch!” His muffled cry was furious, almost pitiful.

Vexin’s lips curved faintly.

“Mm. Still some fight in you.”

The boy glared up, trembling.

Vexin knelt slightly, his calm voice reaching him.

“Your name?”

The boy hesitated, eyes glowing. His throat tightened as the collar compelled him to answer. “…A01.”

The King frowned.

“That’s not a name. That’s a number.”

He leaned closer, black eyes unwavering.

“You’re not a product. Not to me. You need a name.”

The boy blinked. His lips trembled as if he wanted to resist, but his eyes softened just a little. He hated that this man’s words… didn’t sound cruel.

Vexin hummed. “Let’s see… Cael? Ren? Faeb?”

The boy froze at the last one. His red eyes flickered, and though his pride screamed to stay silent, the smallest whisper left him.

“…Faeb.”

Vexin’s expression softened, satisfied.

“Faeb, then.”

The vampire’s face burned. Why… why does he let me choose? He bit his lip, frustrated tears threatening at the corners of his eyes.

“Che. Don’t think I like you just because I accepted it…” he muttered under his breath.

Vexin chuckled.

“Of course. You only glared at me like you wanted to murder me. Very charming, Faeb.”

Faeb’s cheeks puffed up in anger. “Y-you…!” His voice cracked, and to his horror, tears actually welled up. He quickly turned his head away, tail swishing furiously.

Vexin tilted his head, amused. “Crying already? I haven’t done anything to you yet.”

Faeb hissed through his tears. “Y-you’re horrible!”

“Mm,” Vexin said calmly, pouring himself a glass of wine. “And you’re mine.”

Faeb growled low in his throat, but his stomach gave a small grumble.

Vexin raised a brow. “…Hungry?”

Faeb froze, face going red. “…N-no.”

Vexin smirked faintly. “For someone who says no, your stomach is very honest.”

Faeb covered his face with both hands, tail wrapping around his legs. “Ughhhh, I hate you!”

Vexin leaned back on his couch, sipping his wine, eyes glinting.

No… you don’t. Not yet.

Chapter Two – The Weight of a Name

Chapter Two – The Weight of a Name

Vexin leaned back on the velvet couch, his posture as effortless as it was commanding. Across from him, the silver-haired vampire sat on the carpet, back straight, red eyes stubbornly fixed on the floor instead of the King.

“Bring food for him,” Vexin ordered.

The servant bowed and left. For a moment, silence filled the room, thick with pride and tension. Faeb refused to look up.

When the dishes arrived, rich scents filled the chamber. Faeb’s throat tightened at the aroma, but he clenched his fists. Don’t move. Don’t show him you’re desperate. Don’t—

Then his body betrayed him. His fingers twitched, and he grabbed the food. He ate in silence, fast but not messy, as though pride still forced him to appear controlled.

Vexin’s eyes softened, amused. Starving, yet still pretending. Strong, but breaking inside. Five years in cages, and still clinging to his pride… I’ll have to crush it carefully.

When Faeb finally set down the spoon, Vexin spoke.

“I am Vexin Keal. King of this land.”

Faeb glanced up, lips pressed tight. “…So?”

“‘So?’” Vexin repeated, one brow raised. “That’s how you answer a King?”

“I didn’t ask for your introduction.” His voice was sharp, but faintly trembling.

Unbothered, Vexin leaned forward. “When were you caged?”

Faeb’s hands trembled, but he answered, his voice hollow. “…Five years. Passed between five families. Bought, sold, passed again.”

Vexin’s gaze darkened. “…I see.”

A long silence stretched. Finally, Vexin’s tone dropped into quiet command. “Come here.”

Faeb tried to rise, but his legs trembled—no, it wasn’t just weakness. His whole body refused to move, pinned by an unseen force. His red eyes widened. “You—!”

Vexin smiled faintly, watching his struggle. “Yes. That’s my power.”

Faeb’s pride snapped. He snarled softly, summoning a flicker of magic, and his body lifted into the air. He hovered until he landed just in front of the King, glaring with burning eyes. “See? I came my way.”

Vexin’s smile didn’t vanish. It curved deeper, knowing.

“Exactly what I expected. You knew what I wanted, and still chose to disobey. Which means…” He leaned forward slightly. “You’ve earned punishment.”

Faeb froze. “Punishment?”

“Come. To my lap.”

Faeb’s face burned scarlet. “W-what!? Do you think I’ll humiliate myself like—”

Vexin didn’t wait. With one swift pull of the invisible collar, Faeb stumbled forward, caught easily by the King’s arm, and landed against him.

“Wha—! Let me go!” Faeb struggled, fists pressing against Vexin’s chest. “You—you can’t treat me like a child!”

“I can,” Vexin replied calmly. “And I just did.”

Faeb bared his fangs, snapping at his throat—only for the collar to lock his jaw mid-lunge. His mouth hovered inches from Vexin’s neck, trembling in fury.

“Trying to bite me?” Vexin’s voice was smooth, almost amused. “Mm. Dangerous. But I won’t allow it.”

Faeb’s eyes blazed. “You—! You don’t deserve to be called my master!”

Vexin’s lips curved in a dangerous smile. “And yet, you’re sitting in my lap.”

Faeb froze, then shook violently, his pride collapsing under the humiliation. His voice cracked, almost breaking into a sob. “I-I hate you!”

Vexin tilted his head, fingers brushing through Faeb’s silken hair as if testing its texture.

“No, Faeb. You hate the collar. You hate the cage. But me? You’ll learn.”

“Learn what!?” Faeb spat.

“That my lap is far more comfortable than the floor.”

Faeb blinked. “…W-what?”

Vexin chuckled softly. “Don’t act like you don’t notice. The cushions are softer, aren’t they?”

Faeb went silent, lips trembling. His pride screamed at him to deny it—but the seat really was softer than stone or iron. Against his will, his shoulders relaxed just a little.

Vexin smirked knowingly. “See? You’re already behaving better.”

Faeb covered his face with his hands, muffled voice trembling:

“Ughhh… I hate you so much.”

Vexin only leaned back, stroking his hair like a spoiled pet.

“And I like you exactly as you are.”

Chapter three – Secrets in the Halls

Chapter three – Secrets in the Halls

Vexin loosened his grip from Faeb’s wrist, voice low but cutting.

“I think you like to stay here now.”

Faeb shot to his feet, silver hair falling around his crimson eyes, face burning with embarrassment.

“Don’t you know how to treat a vampire?”

Vexin’s gaze didn’t flinch. “No, I don’t. But I know how to treat you.”

Faeb’s fist clenched. If I hit him, the collar will drag me to my knees. If I don’t, I’ll choke on this shame. His lip bled faintly from how hard he bit it.

“Follow,” Vexin ordered, already walking.

Faeb trailed behind, pride crumbling step by step.

The palace stretched like a world of its own—glittering chandeliers, endless corridors, portraits of kings past. Servants bowed to Vexin as he passed, their respect absolute, though their eyes flickered nervously toward the vampire following in chains unseen.

Then—boots echoed. A man strode in, his sharp black-and-silver military uniform hugging his tall frame, silver trim catching the light. His posture was perfect, his dark gloves tucked neatly behind his back. He stopped, bowed deeply.

“Your Majesty. Urgent news. Trouble at the southern border.”

Vexin’s warmth vanished like smoke. His voice turned to frost. “I see.”

He glanced at a nearby servant. “Take him. Provide clothes of his choosing. He will stay in the left chamber beside mine.”

The servant’s eyes widened. “Y-Your Majesty… that chamber is—”

Vexin’s stare froze him in place. “Are you questioning me?”

“N-No, sire! Forgive me.” The servant nearly tripped in his bow before fleeing.

Faeb’s ears twitched. The chamber beside his? He’s insane…

But then his eyes caught something sharper—when Vexin gave the order, the commander’s jaw tightened, lip caught between his teeth for the briefest moment. Then, like a mask snapping back in place, he straightened, unshaken.

Vexin’s voice cut like steel. “General Kael Draven.”

The man saluted. “Yes, Your Majesty.”

“Come.”

Kael’s eyes flickered once to Faeb—dark, unreadable—before he fell in step with the king like his shadow.

Faeb’s crimson eyes narrowed. So the almighty King drops his smiles for this man. Interesting… The idiot has secrets. And I want them.

Later, Faeb followed the servant through winding corridors until they stopped near a grand door.

“Lord Faeb, please, this way. Clothes will be brought at once.”

Faeb tilted his head, voice lazy with curiosity.

“That commander… Kael. Who is he to the King?”

The servant froze, choking on air. His face drained pale. “I-I… Forgive me, my lord, but I cannot speak of His Majesty’s matters.”

Faeb leaned closer, fangs flashing with his smirk.

“Come on… just a little? I won’t bite… unless you want me to.”

The servant shook like a leaf. “Y-Your Majesty will kill me if I—” He clamped his mouth shut, then whispered before he lost his courage. “His full name… General Kael Draven Keal.”

Faeb blinked. Then again. Then his lips parted in disbelief.

“…What?”

The servant bowed low. “Forgive me, I can say no more!” He fled like the walls themselves were closing in.

Faeb stared at the door, mind spinning.

“Keal?!” His voice cracked in outrage. “Don’t tell me that cold soldier is related to him! That damned king!”

He dropped onto the bed, pulling at his silver hair, red eyes burning.

“Oh, this is rich. The arrogant King and his ice statue general… same blood. Brothers? Cousins? Or something worse? Tch—damn it all, why does this make him even more annoying?!”

Faeb flopped back dramatically, arms spread.

“…This palace is rotten with secrets. I swear, I’ll dig them out—even if I choke that smug king with his own invisible collar!”

But the faint curl of amusement tugging his lips betrayed his real thought.

This is going to be fun.
