Moonlit Beginnings
The city was loud even at night—cars humming in the distance, televisions echoing through thin apartment walls, and life rushing endlessly below. But on the rooftop of Shantideep Residency, silence found a home. The kind of silence that didn’t scare kook… the kind that breathed with him.
Kook climbed the last metal step, pushing open the creaky rooftop door. he exhaled softly. The sky welcomed him as if it knew him by name. Above him, the moon hung like a patient listener, steady and silver.
This was him favorite place in the whole world.
He wrapped he's thin shawl around him shoulders and walked toward him usual spot near the old water tank. The tank was rusty and half-forgotten, but for kook, it was the perfect seat to watch the world from a safe distance.
Downstairs, he mother and aunt were probably still arguing about groceries or bills. They argued about everything.
He little cousin suga was likely calling him name, trying to show him another drawing he made. And he best friend hope had messaged him thrice already:
“You okay? Did you eat?”
“Don’t disappear again.”
“kook don’t ghost me.”
He smiled faintly at phone and put it away.
Tonight, he didn’t want noise.
he wanted quiet.
That’s when he noticed he wasn’t alone.
A boy stood near the edge of the rooftop, facing the moon. Hands in pockets. Hood up. Standing so still he almost blended into the night. A camera hung from his neck, its lens pointed toward the sky as if waiting for something unspoken.
He’d been coming here for months and had never seen anyone else.
This rooftop was he's.
Or so he thought.
kook
He took a cautious step backward.
For a moment, the air felt different. Like the night had paused to watch them.
He lowered his camera slowly. His face was clearer now—sharp jawline, thoughtful eyes, hair that looked like it had given up trying to stay tidy. There was something about him… a quiet intensity, as if he lived inside his mind more than outside it.
