It was an exceptionally quiet evening
Even the ocean was dead silent.
As if the nature knew what was coming.
The sky was pitch dark and no one was around as it was circulated that a storm will be approaching today.
The cold felt better than the heat of shame that had followed him for months.
His bare feet sank into the wet sand with every step, the hem of his robe brushing against his calves.
The sea looked black and endless in front of him. Perfect.
He pressed his hand against his stomach.
Somebody he should be calling a miracle.

I'm sorry baby...

I just can't do this anymore.
He bit the inside of his cheek until he tasted blood.
No. He didn't want the baby.
He took another step into the water. It was freezing.
His eyes stung, but he wasn’t sure if it was from the salt or from holding back tears.
Just one more step. That’s all it would take.
Jungkook flinched hard, twisting around

Stop it! You don't want to do this!
The man who held him was taller, dressed in dark clothes that were already soaked from the waves

Jungkook tried to yank his hand back, but the stranger didn’t release him.

The man picked Jungkook up and pulled him out of the water.

For a moment, neither of them spoke. The sound of the waves filled the silence

The man nodded and sat beside Jungkook.

Jungkook didn’t respond. He didn’t thank him either. He just stared at the sea until the tremors in his hands started to fade.
After a while, lights appeared in the distance.
Some men were shouting with torches.
Jungkook turned his head in confusion.
Guard
thank goodness you're safe...let's go back to the palace.

Jungkook stared at him — the stranger who’d pulled him from the sea
The soldiers reached them, bowing deeply. One draped another cloak over the king’s shoulders,
Guard
Shall we escort him away, your majesty?
Kim Taehyung
No. He comes with me.
Jungkook looked up at him, startled.
Kim Taehyung
You're coming with me. To the palace.
Jungkook didn’t reply. He was too tired, too confused, too cold.
When Jungkook woke up, the first thing he noticed was the silence.
He sat up too fast, and a sharp pain pulsed through his head.
A single window sat high on the wall, locked with iron bars.
The room was dimly lit by a small lantern near the door
He tried the door. It didn’t move.
Panic kicked in fast. Jungkook slammed his fist against the handle.
Jeon Jungkook
Hey! Someone!
Kim Taehyung
You’ll hurt yourself doing that
Jungkook froze. He recognized that voice instantly.
The door opened just enough for King Taehyung to step inside. He was no longer in the dark cloak from last night; now he wore a plain white shirt with his sleeves rolled up
Jeon Jungkook
Why did you lock me up?!
Taehyung stayed near the door, hands in his pockets.
Kim Taehyung
You tried to die. I'm not giving you another chance to do your job.
Jeon Jungkook
I didn't ask you for this
Kim Taehyung
Yeah but i did it anyway. I'm the king remember?

You-you don't even know me

I don't need to. You're a citizen of my kingdom. That's all i need to know.
Jungkook sighed and sat on the bed. After a long beat of silence, Jungkook raised his head.
Jeon Jungkook
You said someone you loved died.
Taehyung’s expression flickered, but he didn’t answer right away. Instead, he moved to the small table by the bed and set down a bowl of soup and a folded cloth.
Kim Taehyung
She was sick. Everyone told her she’d get better. She didn’t believe them. One night, she walked into the river behind the palace and never came back
Jungkook swallowed. The guilt in Taehyung’s voice was barely there, but it was enough to make him pity at the young king.
Jeon Jungkook
So you locked me in because you think I’ll do the same
Kim Taehyung
I locked you in because I know how it feels to be left wondering if you could’ve done more
Kim Taehyung
You’ll stay here until I’m sure you won’t try again. There’s food, clean water, and clothes. If you need anything, knock.

You’re a king. Don’t you have better things to do than babysit a stranger?
Taehyung gave a faint, humorless smile

The door closed with a solid click. Taehyung left.
Jungkook stared at it for a long time before sinking back onto the bed. The soup sat untouched on the table, steam curling into the air. His body was tired, but his mind wouldn’t stop spinning.
He should’ve felt trapped, furious — but instead, there was this strange feeling he couldn’t explain.
Like the room wasn’t just a cage.
It was also… the first place where someone actually cared if he lived to see morning.
