Nexus 2

Act 1

The sun rose over the skyline of Downtown City, glinting off the glass towers like a hundred mirrorsm. The world wasn’t afraid of Nexus, they were celebrating him. Billboards flashed his image, news anchors spoke his name, and the people who once whispered behind closed doors now shouted with pride.
Reporter

After last month’s confrontation with the anomaly known as Anti-Ways who was possessed him, the hero, Nexus Ardent has become a symbol of unity across the Central Isles.
Crowds filled the streets, holding banners, cheering as patrol drones flew overhead projecting holographic images of Nexus’s feats.
Nexus
Nexus
(softly) I was used to moving throughout the dark alley… but now, I am the light of the world everyone stares at.
Kairi’s voice crackled through the comm link of his earpiece.
Kairi
Kairi
You’re trending again. The ‘Nexus Reveal’ just passed 500 million streams.
Nexus
Nexus
You sound proud.
Kairi
Kairi
I’m worried. Fame can turn a savior into a suspect real quick.
He chuckled, stepping down onto the street below where people pointed and whispered. Some reached to shake his hand. Others kept their distance. Then came the broadcast that silenced the noise, the city’s large screen flickered, showing the stern face of Director Vayne, head of the Metahuman Defense Bureau.
(on broadcast) "The recents events involving uncontrolled energy phenomena have proven one thing, power without order is a threat to humanity"
(on broadcast) "From this day, the Bureau will regulate all enhanced individuals under the Metahuman Registration Act which stand for MRA. Cooperation will be considered allegiance. Resistance will be seen as rebellion."
The crowd’s cheers turned to murmurs. The camera panned back to Nexus’s face. He said nothing but his jaw tightened.
Nexus
Nexus
(thought and sigh deeply) I really hate him when he talks about me...Tch, weirdo.
As he vanished into the horizon, a faint static pulse flickered in the clouds watching. Something familiar. Far away, deep within the remnants of the Negative Force, a voice echoed like distorted radio.
"You can’t run from what you share, Nexus. We’re the same current"
Night fell over Downtown City, the skyline painted in neon blues and quiet golds. Nexus sat on a high beam overlooking the crowded streets below. Music, laughter, flashes of camera lights. He could see a child holding a toy replica of his helmet, spinning in circles as her parents smiled. For a moment, he smiled too.
Then his comm buzzed again.
Chris
Chris
Still out there?
Nexus
Nexus
Yeah. Just… watching.
Chris
Chris
You’re starting to sound like a freak, man. You should come down. We got things to discuss.
Nexus didn’t reply right away. His fingers brushed the cracked edge of his visor, a relic from the battle with Anti-Ways even though the world saw him as a hero, he still saw the reflection of that yellow light in the broken glass.
Nexus
Nexus
(softly) You ever wonder if the people cheer, just because they’re relieved I didn’t become a monster they feared?
A soft breeze carried the sound of distant thunder. He didn’t notice how the lights flickered below, just slightly, an echo of static still following him.
He returned to their base. The once-chaotic workspace was quieter now, filled with hums of scanners and faint chatter from Kairi and Chris. Kairi stood near the monitor, pulling up data projections of his energy patterns.
Kairi
Kairi
Your energy readings are still unstable.
Nexus
Nexus
It's still from him?
Kairi
Kairi
It’s possible. Or maybe it’s… you.
He raised a brow.
Nexus
Nexus
I don't get it...
Kairi
Kairi
You have merged with him since the possession accident.
Kairi
Kairi
You might not be aware but something constitutes in between.
She leaned back, crossing her arms.
Chris
Chris
Let’s not assume this guy’s gonna explode just because he glows funny.
Kairi gave him a side glance.
Kairi
Kairi
His output could power half the city.
Nexus stayed quiet, eyes fixed on the screen showing two oscillating waveforms, blue and yellow, dancing together. Something about it felt alive.
The next day, he walked through the city in plain clothes. People recognized him instantly, selfies, handshakes, questions. A small group of children ran up, one of them holding a poster.
"Mister Nexus! Can you sign this, please!?"
He knelt, smiling as he took the pen.
Nexus
Nexus
Sure thing. But shouldn’t you all be in school right now?
(grinning) "They canceled classes! It’s a holiday!"
Nexus
Nexus
(chuckling) A holiday, huh? I guess I should’ve seen that coming. What’s your name?
"A-Alex! And this is Ben and Jack!"
(shy) "Y-you run really fast! I-I’m your biggest fan, Mister! I… I hope I can run as fast as you someday!"
"Yeah! But tell us, where did you get your superpower? What’s your secret, please~?"
Nexus
Nexus
(chuckling) Oh—uh, sorry guys, but I’ve got something important to take care of, hehe. See you around, alright?
He gave them a small wave before dashing off, leaving behind only a streak of blue light and a group of smiling kids staring in awe.

Act 2

The city had changed since his identity was revealed by Anti-ways. Posters with his name Nexus Ardent hung from skyscraper walls. News drones hovered above the streets, still chasing glimpses of him wherever he went. To most people, he was a hero. To others... an anomaly. Inside Kairi’s lab, the hum of computers filled the silence. Chris leaned against the console, scrolling through unread messages.
Chris
Chris
(frowning) You’ve been requested for another public interview. Recently.
Nexus
Nexus
(groans) I’m not a celebrity. I’m just trying to keep things quiet for once.
Kairi
Kairi
(typing fast) Quiet doesn’t exist for you anymore. The whole government branch wants to ‘collaborate.’
Nexus
Nexus
That's... Sounds shit to me.
Before he could speak further, the lab lights dimmed, not from a power failure, but a controlled override. A faint electronic buzz echoed through the room, followed by a soft voice projected from the intercom.
"Nexus. Kairi. Chris. You’ve been granted visitation.”
Kairi
Kairi
(shocked) They’re not supposed to contact civilians directly.
A beam of light expanded from the center of the room, projecting a holographic figure, a tall woman in a dark tactical coat, her badge glowing faintly.
Agent Lyra
Agent Lyra
Mr. Nexus. I am Agent Lyra, Metahuman Registration Act. We’ve scrutinized you since the previous incident.
Nexus crossed his arms, unimpressed.
Nexus
Nexus
You’ve been spying on me.
Agent Lyra
Agent Lyra
Observing. For security reasons. When the energy pulse reached global range. Our satellite detects residual points in your location.
Chris
Chris
You mean his heartbeat registers as an anomaly?
Agent Lyra
Agent Lyra
Anomalies draw attention. We prefer to keep them, contained.
The word contained struck a nerve. Nexus took a step forward, his tone sharp.
Nexus
Nexus
Contained?! You’re talking like I’m an animal!
Agent Lyra
Agent Lyra
We’re talking about your unstable energy. You could potentially disrupt the atmospheric patterns.
Silence filled the room. Kairi clenched her jaw, glaring at the projection.
Kairi
Kairi
So what are you offering? Protection? Or imprisonment?
Agent Lyra
Agent Lyra
(smirked faintly) Neither. We’re offering a partnership. Work with us, and we’ll help you.
Agent Lyra
Agent Lyra
Refuse, you'll have to face the consequences. Choose wisely, Nexus.
She ended the transmission abruptly, leaving the faint scent of ionized air.
Chris looked at Nexus.
Chris
Chris
Nex… she didn’t sound like an offer.
Nexus sat down quietly, staring at the floor. The faint hum of his speed aura shimmered beneath his boots, restless.
Nexus
Nexus
We'll have to find out what their real intentions are. If they want to study me—
He raised his head, his eyes glowing faintly with blue light.
Nexus
Nexus
—Then we'll study them too.”
The next day. A helicopter hovered over the shining sea, slicing through the dawn mist. Inside, Nexus sat near the window, his hair pushed back by the wind. The hum of the rotor blended with his heartbeat. Across from him, Kairi checked her Ipad for the fifth time, while Chris tried to look casual but his eyes kept darting between the pilot and the radar readings.
Chris
Chris
So… we’re really doing this?
Kairi
Kairi
We don’t have much choice.
Nexus
Nexus
Just to make sure those ‘welcome to the team, now hand us your DNA samples’ kind of thing.
The helicopter banked sharply, revealing a massive island hidden within a wall of fog. A sprawling facility stretched across the cliffs metallic towers, domes connected by glowing bridges, and an enormous logo engraved on the landing pad.
> METAHUMAN REGISTRATION ACT
As they landed, armed personnel in white and navy uniforms approached their badges shining with holographic emblems. Unlike soldiers, these looked… calm. Controlled. Too precise. Agent Lyra was already waiting, hands behind her.
Agent Lyra
Agent Lyra
Welcome to MRA. Please, follow me.
They stepped through glass corridors overlooking vast chambers, people testing abilities, holographic displays showing readings of elemental energy, even containment spheres that hold flickering entities inside.
Chris
Chris
(whispering) This place looks like it's ten years ahead of us.
Kairi
Kairi
More like fifty.
Agent Lyra turned, walking backward as she explained with the grace of someone who had rehearsed it a thousand times.
Agent Lyra
Agent Lyra
The MRA was built two decades ago since your battle back before. Our mission is to maintain order.
They entered a conference chamber. A massive screen flickered to life displaying several faces, each with titles like Commander Orin, Director Salen, Dr. Vail (Research).
Commander Justin
Commander Justin
Mr. Nexus, your assistance in neutralizing the threat of the world has proven your potential.
Commander Justin
Commander Justin
However, the uncontrolled energy fluctuations remain a concern.
Nexus
Nexus
(arms crossed) You gotta deal with em then, not my problem either.
Dr. Vail
Dr. Vail
You’re the first human to resonate with the Positive Force without disintegrating.
Kairi
Kairi
(leaned forward) Where the hell you get the data!? Did you hack my account!
Dr. Vail
Dr. Vail
You can't hide forever, dear~
Kairi was furious but then Chris came to calm her down.
Chris
Chris
You basically want to turn him into a global tuning fork...
Nexus gave him a look.
Commander Justin
Commander Justin
You’ll be under supervision, but you’ll have full access to our facilities.
Commander Justin
Commander Justin
Training, missions, information. You’ll operate as part of Strike Division 07 under Agent Lyra’s command.
Nexus stayed silent for a moment. The tension in the room thickened.
Nexus
Nexus
Sorry, Commander… but I don’t follow orders that easily, not even yours.
Nexus
Nexus
(smirking) My name, my rules. You feel me?
Commander Justin
Commander Justin
(Chuckling) Fair enough. As long as you’re under our roof, you’re free to do what you do best
Nexus
Nexus
Deal.
They shake hands not as soldiers and superior, but as equals.

Act 3

Training Day. The morning sun cut through the silver clouds above the Division’s compound. Inside, the training facility was alive with noise — gears turning, plasma barriers flickering, drones hovering in midair. Nexus stood at the center of a vast chamber — the “Velocity Room,” built entirely for him. The floor panels glowed in circuits of blue, each one adjusting to measure kinetic force and energy fluctuation. Chris watched from the upper deck, coffee in hand. Kairi leaned against the glass railing beside him, scrolling through her Ipad.
Chris
Chris
This is where they’re going to make him a ‘proper hero,’ right?
Kairi
Kairi
Or dissect him if he breaks another record.
Agent Lyra
Agent Lyra
We'll test your synchronization with the Positive Force. So do not hold back.
Nexus
Nexus
What happens if I run too fast? Just saying—
Agent Lyra
Agent Lyra
You don't have to worry about it, the chamber would not shut down... probably.
She stepped back and nodded to the operator behind the glass. A mechanical voice echoed through the speakers:
> “Phase One — Velocity Simulation.
The room shifted. Panels rearranged into a wide circular track, shimmering with energy fields. Wind pressure built up as the simulation activated, holographic drones appeared, creating moving targets. Nexus took a breath. His shoes hummed, light gathering at the soles.
Then he burst off. A burst of blue lightning streaked around the chamber, the sound barrier shattering in waves. The holographic drones exploded one by one. Data screens flashed [Mach 5… Mach 7… Mach 10…]
Chris
Chris
He’s pushing again.
Kairi
Kairi
The stabilizer can’t handle that level of output.
Agent Lyra
Agent Lyra
Cut the power now!
The entire chamber pulsed with light as Nexus accelerated. To him, the world blurred into streaks of stillness even though the sound seemed frozen. It was only him and the flow of the Positive Force. Then, something shifted. For just a second, the blue light turned yellow. Nexus felt his body jerk mid-run, the air grew heavier, but he just ignored them and kept running.
As he reached Mach 30, the chamber detonated some kind of electromagnetic waves, which disabled the circuit system. The lights flickered out. Nexus lay on the ground, breathing hard. His hand trembled, faint traces of yellow electricity crackling around his arm before fading.
Chris
Chris
(rushing down) Nex, Are you alright?
Nexus
Nexus
(exhaling) Yeah… yeah. Just a misfire.
Agent Lyra
Agent Lyra
(kneeling beside him, voice low) That was residue from the Negative Force… wasn’t it?
Nexus
Nexus
(averting his eyes) You know too much about me… about him. I still feel it… waiting for me to slip.
After that scene. In the canteen, Nexus sat with his team, exhaustion written across his face. Kairi tapped her fingers on the table, clearly annoyed.
Kairi
Kairi
That sudden change...
Nexus
Nexus
Those lightning? Yeah, I get it.
Chris
Chris
Then you’ve got the same potential as him, right?
Nexus
Nexus
(confused) Explain?
Chris
Chris
You have a Positive Force and he has a Negative Force.
Chris
Chris
The possession accident is the reason behind this.
Chris
Chris
And by my theory.
Chris
Chris
It was creating a new existence of Force.
Kairi
Kairi
What kind of Force can you describe?
Chris
Chris
I don't know... But maybe it's the reason Nexus can push even harder.
Chris
Chris
What do you think?
Nexus
Nexus
Let me think—
Chris
Chris
(Laugh) No you don't think, just accept it because it's cool like c'mon Nex.
Nexus
Nexus
Well fine then, that sounds cool to me I guess?
Nexus
Nexus
(grinning) Right after I get another one of the spicy hamburgers. Damn, this place got good food for government ops.
A group of young agents walked in, each wearing a different emblem to patch their unit symbols. Some turned their heads, whispering when they noticed the new trio.
Kairi leaned in.
Kairi
Kairi
Looks like the kids found a new celebrity.
Nexus
Nexus
Sup?
Sora
Sora
So you’re the one who outran our entire track system on your first day.
Nexus
Nexus
Depends. Are you here to congratulate me or complain.
Sora
Sora
(smirked) Neither. My name is Sora. I lead Team Cascade.
He extended a hand and shook it reluctantly. Sora's grip was surprisingly firm. Confident. Too confident.
Another girl walked up and slapped Sora on the back.
Mira
Mira
Oi, don’t be all serious! You’re just jealous he’s faster.
She grinned at Nexus. Her hair was dark purple with streaks of black, tied in a ponytail. glasses rested on her forehead
Mira
Mira
I’m Mira, and technology is my branch.
Their table quickly became crowded as three more seniors joined in:
Caleon – fire wielder with a mellow personality Sera Lin – healer wielder Dax – heavy striker, huge guy but gentle as a cat
Chris leaned to Nexus.
Chris
Chris
I don't like this
Kairi
Kairi
(smirked) Oh you're famous now, Nexus~
Nexus
Nexus
Tch!
