Moonbound Sovereigns

CHAPTER 1-THE NIGHT SOVEREIGN

The Throne room of Varyn Castle breathed darkness.

Obsidian pillars rose like the ribs of a colossal beast, their surfaces shifting with faint, restless movement. Torches of black flame flickered along the walls, casting cold light that made the air feel thin - like the room itself was holding its breath.

At the far end, Seated upon a throne craved from a single block of midnight stone, was King KAELITH VARYN.

The Night Sovereign.

He didn't move.

He didn't need to.

Power radiated from him in slow, deliberate waves -Ancient, patient, lethal. His silver eyes glowed faintly in the dimness, reflecting the room like polished moonlight. His long black hair fell over his shoulders in a cascade of shadow, and the dark armor he wore seemed forged from the night sky itself.

Before him, a trembling noble knelt on the cold stone floor.

"my King,"the man stammered, forehead pressed to the ground."The rebellion at the eastearn border..it grows. They have taken the fortress at Blackspire".

Kaelith's voice was soft when he finally spoke-soft, but sharp enough to cut.

"Taken,"he repeated." By Wolves."

The noble swallowed." Y-yes, my king. The Werewolves have -"

"They are not wolves," Kaelith murmured." They are The Moon-Queen's soldiers. Do not diminish them with cowardly euphemisms."

The noble flinched.

Kaelith rose from his throne with the fluid grace of a predator. Shadows curled around his boots as he descended the steps, each movement controlled and terrifying.

" How many did we lose?" he asked.

" F-four hundred, my king."

"And the fortress?"

" Burned."

Kaelith stopped walking.

Silence fell-heavy, suffocating.

A tendril of shadow slithered across the floor at his command, coiling around the noble's throat.

The man choked, clawing at the darkness constricting him.

Kaelith's expression didn't change.

" You bring me news of failure," he said calmly." And yet you kneel breathing."

"My King - please - mercy -"

" mercy," Kaelith repeated, tasting the word like something foreign." you ask it of the wrong king."

The shadows tightened.

The noble's body went limp.

Kaelith released the corpse without a flicker of emotion.

A voice drifted from the far side of the room." You are in a foul mood tonight."

Kaelith didn't turn."you would be too, Seer , if your enemies dared burn your fortress."

The High Seer stepped into view -an elderly vampire with clouded eyes and robes embroidered with runes that pulsed faintly with arcane light.

" It is not the fortress that troubles you," the Seer said." It is the omen."

Kaelith's jaw tightened.

The Blood Eclipse.

The sigil burned into his chest.

The Prophecy whispered in the wind.

He had not slept since.

" Speak plainly," Kaelith said.

" The Moon - Queen has seen the omen as well," the Seer replied.

Kaelith's eyes narrowed." Lyriana Throne."

Her name tasted like wildfire and iron.

He had never met her, but her reputation was legend - Fierce, cunning, chosen by the lunar spirits. A Queen who fought with her pack, who tore through armies with her bare hands.

A queen who hated vampires with every breath.

" She will take the omen as a threat," the sneer continued." She will strike first."

Kaelith turned away, cloak swirling behind him like a storm cloud." Let her strike. I welcome her attempt."

The Sneer hesitated." My King. The Prophecy speaks of union."

Kaelith Froze.

"Union ," he repeated, voice dangerously soft." Between shadow and moonlight."

" yes ."

Kaelith laughed - a cold, humorless sound ." I would sooner burn my kingdom to ash than bind myself to a wolf."

The Sneer's voice dropped to a whisper." Destiny does not ask for your permission."

Kaelith's eyes flashed with silver fire." Then Destiny will learn to kneel."

He strode toward the balcony, pushing open the heavy doors. Night air rushed in - cold, sharp, carrying the scent of distant storms. The moon hung low and swollen, still stained faintly red from the eclipse.

Kaelith stared at it , feeling the sigil on his chest pulse with a heat that wasn't his own.

Somewhere beyond the mountains, he felt a presence - wild, Fierce, burning like moon fire.

Lyriana

The connection was faint, but undeniable.

His hand curled into a fist.

"So, "he murmured to the night." The Moon - Queen dares touch my fate".

The shadows stirred restlessly around him.

" Let her come," he whispered." I will show her what becomes of those who challenge the Night Sovereign."

Far away, in the heart of the wolf kingdom, a queen lifted her head as if hearing a distant voice.

The War had begun.

CHAPTER 2 - THE MOON CHOSEN

The forest of Thronehold was alive.

Not in the gentle, whispering way mortals imagined, but in the ancient, primal sense - roots pulsing with magic, branches bending toward the moon as if in worship, the earth itself humming with the heartbeat of the pack.

Queen Lyriana Throne stood at the edge of the sacred clearing, her bare feet sinking into cool moss, her breath misting in the night air. The moon hung full and bright above her, silver light spilling across her skin like a blessing.

Or a Warning.

The sigil burned again - Sharp, searing, shaped like a fang of shadow - right above her heart.

She gritted her teeth and forced the pain down.

She would not show weakness. Not here. Not before her pack.

Behind her, a dozen wolves waited in their humanoid forms, tall and muscular, their eyes glowing gold in the moon light. Her beta, Rhydan, stepped forward.

"My Queen," he said, voice low with concern. "The Mark-"

"Is none of your concern," Lyriana snapped.

Rhydan bowed his head immediately, but felt the tension ripple through the pack. They were bound to her - body, soul and spirit. They felt her pain even when she hid it.They sensed her fury even when she masked it.

And tonight, her fury was a wildfire.

She turned toward the ancient stone alter at the center of the clearing. Moonlight pooled over it like liquid silver, illuminating the carved runes that had guided her ancestors for centuries.

The high shaman approached, leaning heavily on his staff. His fur - lined cloak rustled as he bowed.

"Moon - Chosen," he said, voice trembling. " The omen as returned."

Lyriana's jaw clenched. " I saw it ."

" The blood Eclipse, " the shaman whispered." The sky bleeding red. The sigil burning upon your flesh. The prophecy - "

- is a lie," Lyrics cut in." A relic of a dead age."

The Shaman hesitated." And yet it marks you still."

Lyriana's eyes flashed gold.

She hated the fear in his voice. She hated the uncertainty in her pack 's scent. She hated the sigil burning on her skin like a brand.

But most of all, she hated the truth she could not deny :

The mark was not wolf magic.

It was vampire.

Her hands curled into fists.

" Kaelith Varyn," she growled , the name dripping with venom. " The Night Sovereign dares Curse Me."

Rhydan stepped forward again." If the vampire seek war ,we will answer."

Lyriana turned to face her pack fully. The Moonlight caught her eyes, turning them into molten gold. Her long silver - white hair flowed behind her like a banner of moon fire. Her presence filled the clearing - commanding, Fierce, unbreakable.

" We do not answer war, " she said." We end it."

A ripple of approval surged through the pack.

But the shaman raised a trembling hand." My Queen. The Prophecy does not speak of war."

Lyriana stiffened.

"It speaks of union," he whispered." Shadow and moonlight. Night and wild .A bond that will reshape the world."

A low growl rumbled in Lyriana's chest.

" I will never bind myself to a vampire," she said.

" Not in Alliance. Not in blood. Not in Fate".

The shaman bowed his head." Destiny is not always a choice".

Lyriana stepped closer , her voice dropping to a deadly whisper.

" Everything is a choice."

The forest fell silent.

Then a horn sounded in the distance - deep, resonant, urgent.

Rhydan's head snapped towards the sound." Scouts returning. They bring news".

Moments later, two wolves burst into the clearing, panting, blood staining their armor.

Lyriana's heart tightened.

" What happened?" she demanded.

The first scout dropped to one knee. " My Queen...

The fortress at Blackspire has fallen."

Lyriana's breath stilled.

Blackspire was a border stronghold - one she had personally reinforced. One she trusted to hold .

" How? " She asked, voice dangerously calm.

" Vampires," the scout said." But not ordinary soldiers. They wielded shadow magic we have never seen. They burned the fortress to ash."

Lyriana's pulse thundered.

Kaelith.

This had his signature all over it - cold, ruthless, efficient.

The second Scout spoke, voice shaking." There is more. We found. Experiments."

"Experiments?" she repeated.

The scout nodded." Wolves. Our wolves. Drained. Twisted. Used for magic."

A snarl tore from Lyriana's throat, raw and feral. The pack echoed her rage, the clearing erupting with growls and howls.

Rhydan stepped forward, eyes blazing." Give the order, my Queen. We Will march tonight."

Lyriana lifted her chin , the Moonlight crowning her in silver fire.

" No, " she said.

The pack fell silent.

" We do not march blindly into the dark," she continued. " We hunt."

Her eyes narrowed, burning with fury and something deeper - something she refused to name.

" Kaelith Varyn has crossed a line," she said." He has taken my fortress. He Has tortured my wolves. He has marked my flesh ."

She stepped into the Moonlight, letting it ignite her power.

" Now I will take something from him."

The pack roared in approval.

But as Lyriana turned away, the sigil on her chest pulse again - hot, insistent, alive.

And for the briefest moment, she felt something impossible:

A heartbeat that was not her own.

A presence brushing against her mind.

A whisper of shadow.

Her breath caught.

No.

She shoved the sensation away, burying it beneath rage and resolve.

Whatever bond the Prophecy spoke of - whatever connection the eclipse had forged - she would break it.

Even if she had to tear the Night Sovereign's heart from his immortal chest.

.

CHAPTER 3 - THE AMBUSH

The Silverwood blurred beneath Lyriana's feet as she ran , her pack thundering behind her in a formation as tight as a heartbeat. Moonlight filtered through the trees in sharp, silver beams, catching on fur, armor, and drawn blades.

They moved like a single creature - silent, swift, deadly.

Rhydan ran at her side, breath steady despite the pace." Scouts said the vampires crossed the border an hour ago."

Lyriana's jaw tightened." Then we're already late."

The sigil on her chest pulsed again - a sharp, electric sting that made her stumble for half a second.

Rhydan caught her elbow." Lyriana-"

"I'm fine," she snapped, pulling away.

But she wasn't.

The pulse wasn't random.

It wasn't pain.

It was a signal.

A pull.

She could feel him - faint, distant, but unmistakable. A cold presence brushing against her mind like a shadow passing over the moon.

Kaelith

The Bond thrummed, tightening with every step she took toward the border.

Rhydan noticed her distraction." If he's connected to you,we should turn back.We don't know what this bond can do ."

Lyriana's eyes flashed gold." That's exactly why I need to find him."

Before Rhydan could argue,a howl split the night - sharp, panicked, cut short.

The pack skidded to a halt.

Lyriana raised a hand."positions."

Wolves shifted into human form, claws out, ears twitching. The forest had gone unnaturally still. No wind. No insects and Sound.

Rhydan sniffed the air." Blood".

Lyriana's heart dropped." where?"

He pointed ahead." Everywhere."

They moved forward cautiously, weaving between the trees until they reached a clearing.

And froze.

Bodies lay scattered across the ground - wolves and vampires alike. Some burned. Some torn apart. Some drained of blood.

Lyriana's breath caught." This wasn't a battle."

Rhydan crouched beside a corpse." This was a slaughter."

Lyriana knelt, touching the ground. The earth was scorched in a perfect circle, as if lightning had struck - but the burn pattern was wrong. Too controlled.Too precise.

Magic.

Old Magic.

Her sigil pulsed violently.

Lyriana hissed, clutching her chest." He's close."

Rhydan's eyes widened." Kaelith?"

"No," Lyriana whispered." Something else."

A twig snapped.

The pack spun, weapons raised.

A figure stumbled out of the trees - a young wolf scout, blood soaking his side. He collapsed at Lyriana's feet.

" Your Majesty..." he gasped." It wasn't the vampires.."

Lyriana knelt beside him." who did this ?"

The scout's eyes widened with terror." A shadow. A monster. It came from the sky. It - "

His body convulsed.

Lyriana grabbed his shoulders." Stay with me!"

But the scout's eyes rolled back, and he went still.

Rhydan cursed under his breath." What kind of monster kills both wolves and vampires?"

Lyriana rose slowly, scanning the treeline." The kind doesn't care about kingdoms."

A cold wind swept through the clearing.

The sigil on her chest burned.

Rhydan stiffened." Lyriana... something's coming."

The shadows between the trees shifted.

Moved.

Gathered.

Lyriana Drew her blades." Positions!"

The pack formed a circle around her .

The Shadows thickened - then exploded outward as a massive creature lunged into the clearing.

It wasn't wolf.

It wasn't vampire.

It wasn't anything she had ever seen.

A twisted mass of bone and darkness, eyes glowing like dying stars.

Rhydan shouted," what in the moon's name - "

The creature roared, the sound shaking the ground.

Lyriana didn't hesitate.

She charged.

Her blades slashed through the creature's shadowy flesh, moon fire sparking on impact. The monster shrieked, recoiling - but not enough.

It struck back with a tendril of darkness that slammed into her chest, throwing her across the clearing.

"LYRIANA!"

Rhydan lunged toward her, but the creature blocked him with a wall of shadow.

Lyriana pushed herself up, vision spinning. The sigil on her chest pulsed wildly - not in pain, but in warning.

The creature lunged again.

Lyriana braced herself -

But the attack never landed.

A blast of black fire tore through the clearing, slamming into the creature and sending it crashing into the trees.

Lyriana froze.

That magic -

That cold ancient power -

She knew it.

A figure stepped out of the shadows.

Tall.

Silent.

Silver - eyed.

Kaelith Varyn.

The Night Sovereign.

He looked at her - not with hatred, not with surprise, but with the grin recognition of someone who had been dragged into the same nightmare.

"Moon - Queen," he said quietly.

Lyriana's heart pounded.

" Night Sovereign."

The Bond pulsed between them - sharp, electric, alive.

The creature rose again, shrieking.

Kaelith's eyes narrowed." we can fight later."

Lyriana lifted her blades." agreed."

They turned toward the monster.

Enemies.

Bound.

Forced into alliance by something older than war.

The ambush had begun.

And destiny had arrived.
