Chapter 1: The Awakening
A stark, white hospital room. Taehyung lies still on the bed, pretending to be unconscious while listening to the voices of a Doctor and a Woman near him
Woman
(Voice filled with worry) "Doctor, is my wife alright? Why isn't he awake yet?"
Doctor
(Calmly) "Judging from the results, apart from the superficial wounds, only the damaged tissues of his right leg are a bit of a problem—everything else is fine. He should wake up soon."
Woman
(Urgent)" Then can we leave once he wakes up, doctor? We don't want him to stay in the hospital."
Doctor
(Hesitant) "This... if you are adamant about him recuperating at home, it is fine, but take notice not to stress his leg. It needs time to heal properly."
Woman
"Yes, of course. Thank you, doctor."
Taehyung, still as stone, keeps his eyes shut. His breathing is shallow as he listens to the Doctor's footsteps fade away. He remains silent until he hears the Woman grumble to herself
Woman
(Sighing heavily) "Ai, there is really never a moment of peace. Marrying this man really is unfortunate. I really don't know what he was thinking at the time. And he is such a talented man as well. Ah!"
She suddenly remembers a task and rushes out, leaving the room in a heavy silence. Taehyung slowly opens his eyes, staring at the white ceiling and a square object installed into it
jeon taehyung
(To himself, whispering in fear) "What a strange place... The men have such short hair... and the women let theirs loose... where am I?"
Panic begins to set in as memories of his "death" flood back
jeon taehyung
(Internal monologue, trembling)
" I was dead. My older step-sister... she pushed me into the water. No one saved me. Even my nanny was gone. I thought I would see my mother in the nether world. But these people... they are still alive."
He looks down at his arms and gasps in horror
jeon taehyung
(His heart pounding) "This body... it’s not mine! So skinny... like skin and bones. These blue veins... this wrist looks like it could snap. I’ve transmigrated. Just like in the fantasy books I used to read before my nanny took them away."
The sound of the door opening startles him. The middle-aged woman returns, grumbling about her busy schedule
Woman
(Grumbling) "Luckily the nursery is nearby, otherwise there wouldn't be enough time. Ai, really, I'm so busy."
Taehyung decides not to fake sleep this time. He looks directly at her. Her gaze, previously worried when speaking to the doctor, instantly turns cold and impatient
Woman
(Unfriendly tone) "Madam, you're finally awake."
jeon taehyung
(Silently thinking) "Madam?"
He keeps his lips pressed together, terrified that saying a single word will reveal he is an imposter
Woman
(Dismissively, as she clears the bedside table) "Madam, let's leave the hospital now that you're awake."
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue)
"Madam? Did she just call me Madam? Who on earth was this person I’ve become?"
AUNT LEE
(Scoffing)
"It’s a waste of money anyway. Besides, I don’t have time to look after you. Sir hired me to look after Taegguk. I need to take care of him."
TAEHYUNG remains frozen, staring blankly. He nods slowly, afraid that opening his mouth will reveal he’s an outsider—a "transmigrator" from another time.
AUNT LEE
(Pausing, astonished)
"Don't blame me. Since Sir hired me for Taegguk, I have to prioritize him. If I stay here with you, Sir won't be happy. You can rest and recuperate at home."
jeon taehyung
(Nodding again, silent)
AUNT LEE
(To herself)
"He’s... agreeing? Usually, he’d make such a fuss."
AUNT LEE
(To Taehyung, sharper)
"Come. Let’s go home."
They exit the hospital. Taehyung hobbles on crutches, his left leg heavy with thick bandages. As they reach the street, his eyes widen in genuine terror.
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue)
"What is that metal beast? People are sitting inside it... it moves faster than any horse carriage I’ve ever seen! I must keep my mouth shut. If I scream, they'll think I'm a demon and kill me."
He climbs into the "metal case" (the car), heart hammering against his ribs. The car stops before a skyscraper so tall the roof is lost in the clouds.
Aunt Lee opens the door and tosses the bags onto a table. She doesn't check to see if Taehyung is managing his crutches.
AUNT LEE
(Shouting toward the living room)
"Taegguk! Are you hungry? Grandma Lee is going to start cooking now. It'll be ready soon!"
jeon Taegguk
(A soft, melodic voice)
"Grandma Lee, I’m not hungry."
Taehyung rounds the corner and stops. On the carpet sits a small boy, about three or four years old. The child is plump, with skin like porcelain and eyes as dark and round as grapes.
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue)
"A bunny... he looks just like a tiny bunny. I’ve never seen a child so beautiful."
Taehyung stares, mesmerized by the boy’s cuteness. The child looks up, catching Taehyung’s gaze. Immediately, the boy’s face sours. He purses his lips into a hard line, lets out a defiant "Humphed!" and turns his back to Taehyung.
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue, pained)
"He hates me too? Did the original owner of this body really treat a child this precious so poorly?"
AUNT LEE
(Glancing at Taehyung with suspicion)
"Madam, go and rest in your room. Please don’t mess around unnecessarily. If you hurt your leg further, no one is going to take responsibility for it."
jeon taehyung
(Looking around the hallway, panicked)
"...Right. My room."
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue)
"...Which one is it?"
jeon taehyung
How am I supposed to know where to go?
jeon taehyung
(Hesitant, voice low)
"That... my leg hurts quite a bit. I can’t walk very well on my own. Could you... help me to my room?"
AUNT LEE stops, her impatience visible in the tension of her shoulders. She sighs but moves to support him, guiding him toward one of the doors. As they move, months of bottled-up resentment begin to pour out of her.
AUNT LEE
"Madam, I know I’m just an outsider and it’s not my place to speak, but I’ve looked after Taegguk for a long time. He even calls me Grandma Lee."
jeon taehyung
(Silent, listening intently)
AUNT LEE
(Nagging, her voice rising)
"No matter what you feel, you are Sir’s wife. You are Taegguk’s mother. Even if you despise them, you should at least act like a wife and mother should. I’m not asking you to treat them perfectly, but can you at least stop causing trouble for them?"
jeon taehyung
(Eyes widening in shock)
jeon taehyung
" Is that really such an excessive request? Sir works so hard to support this family all by himself. It’s a difficult life being a soldier—you should try to have some empathy for him."
They reach the room, and Aunt Lee pulls away. TAEHYUNG is too stunned to respond, his mind spinning with these new revelations.
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue)
"Married? I’m... a wife? And a mother? That little boy, Taegguk... he’s my child?"
AUNT LEE
(Staring at him, her lip curling in disgust)
(To herself)
"Still not a word. He’s truly beyond saving."
AUNT LEE
(To Taehyung, coldly)
"I’m going to cook now."
Aunt Lee turns on her heel and leaves the room, leaving Taehyung alone with his crutches and a life he doesn't remember.

Chapter 2 :Reflection
Taehyung is alone in a room that feels alien to him. He is on crutches, breathing heavily as he navigates the space. He spots a mirror in a small adjoining room and hobbles toward it
jeon taehyung
(Gasps, his voice trembling) "Ah—!"
His arms shake so violently on his crutches that he nearly collapses. He stares at the stranger in the glass with horror
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue): "Who is this? This man... he looks lifeless. My hair is like straw, my lips are cracked and bleeding. Why is my skin so yellow and rough? My cheeks... they’re so sunken. There’s no meat on these bones, just skin stretched over a skeleton."
He reaches up to touch the red and purple bruises mottling his face
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue): "Hideous. I am truly ugly. How could a man this wretched get married? And that child... that beautiful, glowing child I saw... is he really mine? It’s impossible. Unless his father is a god of beauty? But if he were, why would he ever marry someone like... this?"
Taehyung turns away, unable to bear the sight. He limps back to the bed, collapsing onto the mattress
Taehyung lies back, staring at the ceiling. He feels the softness of the pillow against his bruised cheek
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue): "I don’t want to go back. No one cared for me in that other world. I thought when I fell into the pond, I’d see my mother in the afterlife... but I’ve become someone else. God gave me a second chance. I have to treasure it."
He taps his temple, his frustration mounting
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue): "But there’s a problem. In all the books I read, the hero gets the original owner's memories. I have nothing. I don’t know this body’s past. I know I have a husband and a child, but it’s clear the original owner was a terrible person. No one in this house likes me. Even the child I birthed looks at me with loathing."
A spark of an idea hits him
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue): "Wait... memory loss. That’s it! If I claim I’ve forgotten everything, they won’t suspect I’m an impostor. I can just be myself."
He rubs his face against the pillow, a small, genuine smile appearing
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue): "This place is so mystical. These pillows are so soft, the blankets so light. It’s better than anything from my time. I have a family now. A husband to protect me. I’m not alone anymore. This was always my dream."
Taehyung sits up and looks through the door into the living room. A small, chubby child is playing. The child catches Taehyung’s eye and immediately whips around, pretending he wasn't looking
jeon taehyung
(Internal Monologue):" He’s like a little bunny. So cute. Back home, children were never allowed near my courtyard. The adults kept them away, and the kids were scared of me. My nanny used to say that if I married, I’d have my own... and now, after my stepsister pushed me into that pond, I actually have him."
Using his crutches, Taehyung slowly enters the living room. The boy, Taegguk, is intensely focused on stacking red and green blocks with his chubby hands
jeon taehyung
(Softly, with warmth) "Ggukie... you’re very good at this."
Taegguk’s hand freezes mid-air. He looks up at Taehyung, his eyes wide with shock. He lets out a defiant 'Hump!', then violently sweeps his arm across the floor, knocking the tower over
jeon taehyung
(Startled) "Oh..."
Taegguk doesn't say a word. He frantically shoves the blocks into a box, stands up, and bolts into his own room, slamming the door shut. From behind the wood, the sound of blocks hitting the floor begins again
jeon taehyung
(Scratching his head, sighing) "I guess he really doesn’t like me yet."
Taehyung refuses to stay idle. He limps toward the kitchen where a woman is working briskly
Aunt Lee continues her work, looking stressed. Taehyung reaches out and picks up some vegetables from the counter
jeon taehyung
"I’ll help you with those."
Aunt Lee stops dead. She turns around, her jaw dropping in pure astonishment
AUNT LEE
"You... you want to help?"
jeon taehyung
(Nodding calmly) "I’ll cut the vegetables. You can cook them."
AUNT LEE
Staring at him, her eyes tracing his movements in disbelief. Internal: This isn't right. He's acting nothing like the original owner.)
jeon taehyung
(Noticing her gaze. Internal: I can't imitate someone I don't know. It’s better to just be myself and use the excuse.)
jeon taehyung
(He stifles a pang of guilt and looks her in the eye.)
jeon taehyung
"Actually, there is something I would like to speak to you about."
AUNT LEE
(Instantly wary, her guard going up) "What is it?"
jeon taehyung
(Hesitating) "Actually... actually, I don’t remember anything. My mind is empty and I don’t know what to do. Do you know?"
AUNT LEE
(Flabbergasted, she slams the knife down on the counter) "What? You don’t remember anything? Madam, you’re not messing around with me, are you?"
jeon taehyung
(Waving his hands frantically)" I’m not! I’m not. I really don’t remember anything. I don’t even remember what my name is. I’ve been like this since I woke up, but I didn’t dare say anything. I don't even know what happened to me."
AUNT LEE
(Scanning his face intently. Internal: His eyes... they're so much calmer. Gentler. The old him was ruthless, always angry, throwing things. Even at the hospital, he was quiet.)
AUNT LEE
(Still suspicious) "Then do you remember anything about the car crash?"
jeon taehyung
(Internal: A car crash? So that's how it happened. The original owner died in a crash.)
jeon taehyung
(Aloud, shaking his head) "Nope, I don’t remember."
AUNT LEE
" Then what do you remember?"
jeon taehyung
(Sighing)" I really don’t remember anything. I even forgot your name. Please tell me your name again."
AUNT LEE
(Silently studying him for a long moment before suppressing her doubts. She turns back to the vegetables.) "You can just call me Aunt Lee. Sir also calls me that."
jeon taehyung
(Nodding politely) "Aunt Lee."
He begins separating the vegetables, trying to sound casual
jeon taehyung
"Also... Aunt Lee, is the child outside my son?"
AUNT LEE
(Bluntly) "En. Of course that’s your son. But you never treated him as your child, though."
jeon taehyung
(Blurted out) "Why?"
AUNT LEE
(Impatiently) "How would I know? I was just hired to look after Taegguk. I don’t know anything about your family issues."
jeon taehyung
(Dejected) "Then... what about my husband? Where is he?"
AUNT LEE
(Pausing in a heavy silence before glancing back) "Sir serves the army. He is very busy and only comes back during his holidays, so he is normally not at home."
jeon taehyung
(Internal: Military? A hero who protects the country... amazing. But why would a man like that marry someone like the original owner?)
jeon taehyung
(Opening his mouth to ask more—)
AUNT LEE
(Cutting him off, tossing vegetables into the pan)" Don’t ask anymore, I’m going to cook. If there is anything else, wait until Sir is back and ask him instead."
AUNT LEE
(Internal: It’s not good for me to speak too much about family issues as a caretaker, especially if he’s faking this amnesia.)
The table is set with three dishes and a soup. Taehyung stares at the meat and vegetables
jeon taehyung
( Internal: This food is so much better than what I’m used to. The original owner had a good life.)
jeon taehyung
(Watching the little boy eat. Internal: He’s like a little bunny. So adorable. But he has the solemn expression of an old man. Look at those bulging cheeks trembling as he eats... so cute.)
jeon taehyung
(Reaching out, wanting to pinch the boy's cheeks, then pulling back. Internal: No, he wouldn't approve. Restrain yourself.)
Taegguk tries to scoop some shredded potato with his spoon. It slides off. He tries again. It fails. Aunt Lee continues eating, offering no help
jeon taehyung
(Unable to watch any longer, he picks up some potato with his chopsticks and places it gently into the boy's bowl.)
jeon Taegguk
(Freezing instantly. He stares at the potato, then looks up at Taehyung. His eyes widen and begin to turn red. His lips tremble with a mix of anger and hurt.)
jeon Taegguk
(Snorting, he aggressively shoves all the potato out of his bowl.)
jeon Taegguk
(Angrily)" I don’t need your help!"
jeon taehyung
(Startled and helpless)" Ggukie..."
jeon Taegguk
(Refuses to answer. He lowers his head, stuffing rice into his mouth, leaving the shredded potato dish completely untouched.)
jeon taehyung
(Pursing his lips, feeling a wave of dejection. Internal: I didn't think he'd dislike me this much. No... he dislikes the original owner. But I'm in this body now. This is my child. I can't be disliked forever. I have to make him like me.)
