Heartline V: Dream Date
First Contact
Hera
(Hera dragged herself across the finish line of her spreadsheet, the fluorescent office lights buzzing a relentless, mocking lullaby.)
Hera
"I should rest for a while..." *yawn*
Hera
(Her head thunked gently against the soft armrest of the break room couch.) "Just five minutes..."
SYSTEM
[SYSTEM ALERT]
[WELCOME, HERA! YOU ARE NOW PLAYING: HEARTLINE V: DREAM DATE!]
Hera
(My head is pounding.) "Did I seriously just dream about spreadsheets? Wait..."
Hera
"This isn't my office. And why is everything so bright, like a cartoon?🤔"
Hera
(Hera finds herself standing in a stunning, sun-drenched private garden. She is wearing a soft, unfamiliar summer dress.)
SYSTEM
[Loading Love Interest #3: CASSIAN. Current Affection: 10%]
Cassian
"Good morning, Sleeping Beauty."
Cassian
"It seems even after I bought out your shift, you still managed to oversleep."
Hera
(Who is that? He looks... like he walked off a magazine cover. His hair is literally sparkling.)
Cassian
"Silence, my dear? That's new. Usually, you have at least ten good reasons why I shouldn't be here, invading your "personal space" before our date."
Hera
"date? I... I think you have the wrong person. I just finished a 16-hour shift."
Hera
"Where is the vending machine?"
Cassian
(A low, melodic chuckle.)
Cassian
"Vending machine? You're adorable when you're disoriented, Hera. Everything you could ever want is right here."
SYSTEM
[SYSTEM ALERT]
[Cassian is waiting for your reaction. How do you respond to overbearing flirtation?]
Hera
(Is this System again?!!! What just happened? Does every of my action matter?)
Hera
"Listen, 'Cassian.' I don't know who you are, but I need to call security. This is harassment."
SYSTEM
[SYSTEM ALERT!]
Cassian Affection Meter: ↓5% (Total: 5%)
Hera's Personality Stat: +1 Courage
Hera
(Security? That was stupid. I'm in a fantasy garden, not the office lobby.)
Cassian
(He raises a perfectly sculpted eyebrow, a slight, amused smile playing on his lips.)
Cassian
"Security? My dear, you are on my private estate. The only thing you'll be calling is the sommelier to order a vintage for your celebratory lunch."
Hera
(A spike of panic hit her as she tried to think of a way to mention Mark's game.)
Hera
(Mark is her colleague who has a strong addiction in playing dating stimulator game.)
Hera
(A sharp, brief, migraine-like pain lanced through her temple, immediately reinforcing the unknown rule.)
Hera
(She winced, clutching her head.)
Hera
"I'm not celebrating! I'm disoriented, I'm wearing a ridiculous dress, and you keep calling me "my dear." This is creepy. I have to go back to work."
Cassian
(His expression softens slightly, moving from arrogance to concern, fitting the role of a protective love interest.)
Cassian
"Back to work? Hera, you pushed yourself too hard again. You truly believe that's where you belong?"
Cassian
"You're a goddess. You belong right here, being pampered. Did our colleague not explain the situation to you?"
Hera
(Colleague? He said colleague! He means Mark! So they're communicating somehow... but Cassian doesn't know he's code.)
Hera
(She forced the name out, ignoring the twinge of pain.)
Hera
"He was the one who was complaining about... this situation... at his desk all night! What does he have to do with this?!"
Cassian
(His smile widens, suddenly looking less amused and more intrigued, a flicker of suspicion in his eyes.)
Cassian
"Mark, yes. Your dutiful little office protector. He’s quite dedicated to seeing you comfortable, though his recent actions have been... erratic."
Hera
(Erratic? That means Mark is making bad choices. Mark is failing at this for me!)
Hera
(A beat of stunned silence.)
Hera
"Actions? This whole thing is... "(She bit back the word 'setup')
Hera
"This is too much. I need to understand why I'm here."
Cassian
"It's very real, my lovely workaholic. And you, my prize, are now stuck here until you accept the new reality."
Cassian
(He leans in close, his voice a low promise.) "You must commit to one of us. I highly recommend choosing me. I make things easy."
SYSTEM
[CHOICE ALERT!]
[You now know you are trapped and cannot mention the game. Cassian is making a bold play for your attention. You need more context about the 'commitment' he is demanding.]
Who did this to me?
Hera
(Look around nervously, searching for an exit.) "I need to find Mark. Where did he go?"
SYSTEM
[SYSTEM ALERT!]
Cassian Affection Meter: ↓5% (Total: 0%)
Hera’s Personality Stat: +1 Focus
Hera
(Mark is the link to the outside. The player. If I can find him, maybe I can access the settings menu or force a hard reboot. Just try to get out of this ridiculous garden!)
Cassian
(Cassian’s smile vanishes completely. His eyes narrow and he looks genuinely offended. His polished demeanor cracks, revealing a core of territorial possessiveness.)
Cassian
"Mark? Why are you focusing on him? He is a non-entity in this scenario, Hera. An insignificant variable. Your only focus should be on me, your devoted partner"
Hera
(She took a step back, disturbed by his sudden shift in tone. I gotta be careful with my words. Nobody knows what would happen if he gets excessively aggressive.)
Hera
"I…I need to talk to him. He was the last person I saw before… before this morning. He knows me better than anyone here"
Hera
(He’s acting like a jealous scripted boyfriend. His coding is kicking in. I must be steering dangerously off his route.)
Cassian
(He closes the distance between them, trapping her in the shade of a rose arbor. His voice deepens.)
Cassian
"I know everything there is to know about you, Hera. I know you hate the fluorescent office lights. I know you drink your coffee black. I know you look beautiful in this dress. Mark knows nothing, except perhaps where to find decent takeout"
Cassian
"More importantly, he isn’t here. None of the other men are here right now. It is just you and me. And you have a choice to make. Focus on the opportunity, or you’ll find yourself trapped in a path you don’t want."
SYSTEM
[SYSTEM ALERT!]
New Status Effect: Confined.
You are temporarily unable to leave the immediate vicinity of the Love Interest #3 (Cassian).
Hera
(Great. So much for finding the ‘Exit’ button. He’s actively blocking my search! I need to calm him down or find a way to switch to a different character’s environment. Cassian is clearly a high-maintenance route.)
Hera
(She forced a polite and nervous smile)
"You’re right Cassian. I’m just very overwhelmed. Can you at least tell me about the others? You mentioned… Haru? The one who works at the bookstore? I haven’t seen a bookstore in forever."
Cassian
(His gaze is sharp, but the affection meter gives a small, necessary uptick. She’s moving back towards the script.)
Cassian
"Are you trying to change the subject? Haru works at the local shop, The Quiet Corner. If you insist on seeing hi, I supposes I could allow a brief visit."
SYSTEM
[Choice Alert!]
Cassian is reluctantly allowing you to explore another Love Interest’s location, which should reset the ‘Confined status. Do you stick with Cassian or switch locations to meet the “Childhood Friend” Haru?
Hera
"Yes, please take me to the bookstore. I need a change of scenery and a quieter environment."
Hera
(Switch routes to Haru, the ‘safer’ option.)
The Childhood Friend
Hera felt a dizzying rush — like static electricity— and the stunning private garden vanished. She opened her eyes a cozy, dimly lit bookstore. The air smelled warm and comforting, like old books and coffee.
Cassian was nowhere in sight, but standing a few feet away, tidying a stack of fantasy novels, was the man Cassian had called "the Childhood Friend."
He had a soft, hazel-brown hair that matched his gentle eyes. He was wearing a relaxed, blue hoodie, and he looked incredibly kind.
Hera
(This must be Haru— Route #1. He defining as that "puppy love" vibe. Cassian said we were friends since we were five and promised to be partners? Wow, this game really leaned into the clichés.)
Hera noticed Cassian standing just outside the large, arched window. The CEO was leaning against the stone frame, arms crossed, watching them, with a look of cold, silent disapproval.
Hera
(Okay, Cassian just standing there?… He’s not moving, not talking. I must have officially switched routes. This means I’m solo now. No more using the Love Interests against each other. It’s time to start flirting or whatever this game calls it. UGHH )
Hera
💭(I’m terrible at this. )
(The man in the blue hoodie turned and smiled, a huge, genuine smile that crinkled the corners of his eyes.)
Haru
"Hera! You’re finally here. Did you miss me?"
Hera
(I missed a good night’s sleep, but okay, HARU, ILL PLAY ALONG.)
Hera
*She gave a small, tired smile* "Of course, Haru. It’s good to see you."
Haru walked over and, without a second thought, gently patted her head— a gesture clearly meant to be a familiar, old-time habit.
Haru
"You always look so tired after a big project. Come on. I brewed your favourite tea. Let’s read a little at the cafe corner."
Hera
💭(He remembers my favourite tea? This is dangerously effective game design.)
Haru led her to a small, quiet corner. On a nearby table, stacked next to his sketchbook, were dozens of of pencil sketches — all of Hera. Some sleeping, some laughing, some focused on a book.
Hera
*Her eyes widened.* "Haru, did you draw all of these?"
Haru
*He blushed slightly.* Well, you inspire me. You always have.
Hera
💭(Whoa. That’s a lot of me. This isn’t just a puppy love vibe, this is a full-blown dedicated admirer route. How is Mark running this game? It’s too intense!)
Haru
*Haru closed his sketchbook, hopeful look in his eyes.* "Listen, I know you need a break. I just got a new kitten—- a tiny little calico. She’s too shy to bring to the store. Why don’t you come over to my places? You can meet her and we can finally finish that movie we started last week."
Hera
💭(A kitten? The oldest trick in the book! Next, he’ll tell me this cat can do a backflip. But if I refuse, the Affection Meter will drop. I need to get this game over with. )
SYSTEM

Haru is inviting you to his house to meet his new pet. Do you accept this move on the Childhood Friend route?

Hera
"Yes, I would love to! I need some quality time with you and your new kitten."

Hera
(40%! That’s huge! Cassian was at 0%. If I get this to 100%— an ‘A’ rank — does the game end? I’ll accept a kitten date if it means I can get back to my own bed.)
Haru
(Hair’s eyes light up with our joy. He looks like a puppy who just got a treat.)
"Seriously? That’s amazing, Hera! I’ve been waiting for us to just relax together. Come on, my apartment is just down the street."
As Haru gently took her hand to lead her out, the SYSTEM ALERT flashed again, much larger this time, specifically detailing the consequence of raising the meter.

Hera
(S-Rank means EXIT! Okay, this confirms it: I just have to play along and win! Hope it won’t take me too long… But.. what is the BAD ENDING? And why did Cassian let his meter drop to zero? Did he know something I don’t?)
Haru
*He pauses, noticing her dazed expression.*
"You’re quiet, Hera. Are you worried about the kitten? She’s tiny, I promise!"
Hera
(She quickly focused on Haru, forcing a bright smile.) Not at all! I just realised I haven’t seen your apartment since you moved in. I’m excited! 😉
Haru
*He beams and starts walking.*
"Great!"
(They stepped out of the bookstore and onto a quiet, sun-dappled Main Street. The city looked beautiful, vibrant and utterly fake.)
