Where Love Learned to Fade

Introduction

She was laughter made human—bright, talkative, and full of small dreams that spilled easily into the world. When her family chose a man for her, she chose hope. She believed love could grow, that kindness and commitment would turn a careful beginning into something real. Marriage, to her, was a promise of belonging, of warmth, of a future finally taking shape. At first, it looks like happiness.
But slowly, the cracks appear. Affection fades into obligation. Silence replaces conversation. The home she hoped would protect her begins to hollow her out instead. Each day takes something from her—her voice, her confidence, her belief that she is seen or valued. She learns that love can exist without care, and marriage without mercy. What breaks her is not one moment, but many—small disappointments that pile up until hope itself becomes too heavy to carry. The girl who once filled rooms with joy grows quiet, then invisible, until even she can no longer remember who she used to be.
This is the story of a woman who loved deeply, hoped fiercely, and lost herself in a life that never loved her back. A story about the fragile cost of silence, expectation, and endurance. And about how some hearts do not shatter loudly—but fade, until they are gone.

A Glimpse of Tomorrow

The Pratap household was always alive, a sprawling home where laughter and chatter never seemed to stop. Most of their relatives were constantly visiting, making every day feel like a festival. Vikram and Meera kept their doors open, welcoming cousins, aunts, uncles, and their children at the slightest excuse—birthdays, anniversaries, or even just a weekend. The house buzzed with energy, music, and the aroma of home-cooked feasts.
In contrast, the Jaiswals were a close-knit family, their lives more contained and private. Visits were rare, reserved for important occasions, and the household moved at a quieter, steadier rhythm. The difference between the two families couldn’t have been starker: one overflowing with celebration, the other grounded in routine and restraint.
.
Meera was fussing incessantly behind Vikram, urging him to start looking for a suitable girl for Rudra. She was worried—they might never find the right fit if they delayed any longer. Vikram, however, wanted to give Rudra more time, believing his son needed to focus on building himself first. He tried to reason with her, but Meera’s frustration boiled over.

You don’t care about him at all!
Vikram sighed, feeling caught between two forces he couldn’t control—his wife, desperate to see Rudra settled, and his son, who seemed determined to run from the very future they were trying to shape for him. Deep down, he knew Rudra couldn’t avoid responsibility forever, no matter how hard he tried.
Vikram placed a gentle hand on Meera’s shoulder, giving her a reassuring squeeze.

You can start looking for a girl, but don’t tell Rudra anything just yet. Let him focus on himself for now. We’ll tell him once we find the right match.
Meera frowned but nodded reluctantly, trusting her husband’s judgment. Deep down, she knew he was right, yet a part of her ached to see her son settled, to stop worrying about whether the right girl would come along in time. Vikram watched her for a moment, silently promising himself that he would protect both his wife’s hopes and his son’s freedom, at least until the time was truly right.
Meera was finding it increasingly difficult to face all the relatives. Every time she stepped into the room, the questions came: “When is Rudra getting married?” “Has he found a girl yet?” No one asked Vikram—he was always busy with work, and besides, no one dared question the elder. Feeling the weight of their expectations, Meera tried to keep her composure. “I’m looking for a girl for Rudra,” she said carefully, forcing a smile. It wasn’t much, but it was the truth—and it was enough, for now, to quiet the endless questions… at least temporarily.
