Prologue
Black smoke encompassed the alleyway, merging all shadows into one.
It was dark – and he hated the dark.
The tears in his eyes made it no better.
Every step left a heavy drag on the asphalt beneath him. The sound echoing through the alley.

Each time he felt like giving up, his mind flashed back to the white, sterile room with blood spatters along the wall after a blood-curdling scream what happen.
He remembered the wounds drawn all across his body.
He remembers the amounts of medication he was given to 'cure' pain, which would do nothing but make him worse.
Not the sights, not the sounds and especially not the smell.
Blood ran down his arm which was heavily wounded and probably leaving a traceable trail of blood behind him.
His whole body ached from exhaustion, and he was in unbearable pain.
But that's when he saw it – an opening.
His body was tired. His heart hurt.

Alban's body jolted from hearing the voice. Did he do this all for nothing?
He ran and ran even his vision started to swirl and even if it felt like he was running on needles. He needed to leave.

Fulgur, his close friend, was one of the many victims affected by fruge.
