My Hero Academia

Izuku Midoriya: Origin

That is the truth I learned before I even understood what the word equal meant.

In this world, almost everyone is born with a special ability called a Quirk. Some people can control fire, some can fly, some can create explosions with their hands. Quirks decide everything—who is admired, who is feared, and who is ignored. From the moment a child discovers their power, their future begins to take shape.

Everyone… except me.

When I was four years old, the doctor looked at my X-ray and calmly told me that I would never develop a Quirk. His voice was gentle, but his words were heavy. My mother cried beside me, apologizing over and over as if my weakness was her fault. I didn’t fully understand what it meant back then, but I knew one thing clearly—I was different.

Still, I had a dream.

I wanted to become a hero.

I watched heroes on TV every day. I memorized their moves, their rescues, their victories. Above all of them stood the Symbol of Peace, smiling no matter how dangerous the situation was. Seeing that smile made me feel safe. It made me believe that as long as someone like that existed, everything would be okay.

I wanted to be like him.

Even without a Quirk, I trained. I ran until my legs hurt, wrote notes until my fingers cramped, and imagined myself saving people. I believed that if I worked hard enough, if I tried hard enough, the world would eventually accept me.

But reality was cruel.

At school, I was laughed at. Called useless. Told to give up. My dream was treated like a joke, something embarrassing. “You can’t be a hero without a Quirk,” they said. Again and again. Those words followed me everywhere, sinking deeper into my heart each time.

I was scared.

I knew I was weak. I knew that compared to everyone else, I had nothing. No power. No advantage. No chance.

And yet… when someone was in trouble, my body moved on its own.

I didn’t think. I didn’t calculate the risk. I just moved.

Even though my heart was pounding and my legs felt like they would collapse, I ran forward. I knew I couldn’t win. I knew I would probably get hurt. But standing still felt worse than any pain.

Because if I did nothing, I would hate myself forever.

In that moment, I understood something important. Being a hero wasn’t about having power. It wasn’t about winning every fight. It was about acting when others couldn’t. About reaching out a hand even when you were terrified.

I learned the most painful truth of all that day.

Not everyone gets the same start in life.

Some people are born strong. Some are born lucky. And some, like me, are born with empty hands. The world doesn’t wait for you to catch up. It doesn’t care about your dreams.

But dreams don’t disappear just because the world is unfair.

They burn quietly inside you.

Even if I’m powerless.

Even if I fall again and again.

Even if no one believes in me—

I still want to save people.

That desire, more than any Quirk, defines who I am.

This is not a story about someone special from birth.

This is the story of a scared, weak boy who refused to stop moving forward.

And someday, step by step, mistake by mistake,

this will become the story of how I became

the world’s greatest hero.
