Morning 🌅
The sky was a soft pink, like the blush on a lover's cheek. Sunlight peeked through curtains, Birds were already singing their morning songs outside.
Tae grogged his eyes open.
Tae moved quietly to the kitchen
Jimin his stepbrother was unusually awake..was lounging on the couch.

Tae, I'll help you with Anna's stuff...
Jimin said wiping sleep from his eyes
Jimin trudged to Anna's room

Anna,rise and shine...school time!!

Tae was in the kitchen, sleeves rolled up, hands smelling of detergent and onions.
The entire house was spotless—floors wiped twice, curtains dusted, every corner cleaned just the way stepmom liked it.
Atleast that's what he thought...
The washing machine hummed softly behind him.
Lunch was already on the stove.
Uncle will be home in the evening.
Everything has to be perfect.
Tae wiped his forehead with the back of his hand and stirred the pot slowly, careful not to spill anything.
Suddenly—
Jimin's Mom(Tae's stepmom)
TAEE!💢
The shout tore through the house.
Tae’s hand froze mid-air.
The spoon slipped, clanking loudly against the floor
Tae
…Yes?( he called back, voice low, already nervous.)
No answer.
Only the sharp echo of his name still hanging in the air.
Tae swallowed, turned off the stove, and slowly stepped out of the kitchen—
He walked towards the room where uncle's things are kept... that's where her sound came from..
Her face twisted instantly.
Her eyes were blazing—sharp, furious, filled with pure hatred. Her lips were pressed into a thin line, nostrils flaring as if even the sight of him angered her.
Before Tae could understand anything—
SLAP
The sound echoed through the house.
Tae staggered back, pain exploding across his cheek. He gasped, hands flying up to cover his face, eyes wide in shock. His ears rang. His breath came uneven.
It wasn’t the first time she had hit him.
But still—why?
Tae
It wasn’t the first time she had hit me.

I had cleaned the entire house.
Washed the clothes.
Did everything she ordered.
So why?
She stormed past him, yanked open a drawer, and pulled out a pile of papers, slamming them onto the table.

What is THIS? (she snapped, finger pointing violently at the papers.)
Even though she pointed at the papers,That slap was never about the papers.
It was anger that was meant for Tae's mother...
Tae was the living proof of a past she hated—
the son of the woman who came after her,
the reminder that her husband had once chosen someone else.
Every time she looked at Tae, she didn’t see a boy who cleaned the house or cooked meals.
She saw his mother.
She saw betrayal.
She saw something that never should have existed in her life.
The papers were only an excuse.
She had already been irritated, already looking for a reason to explode and she never fails to find one..
The slap was punishment, not correction.
A way to remind him of his place.
A way to release resentment she could never say out loud.
And Tae didn’t understand any of that.
All he knew was that he had done everything right—
and still, it wasn’t enough.
Tae’s eyes burned red, tears pooling but never falling.

Th-that… I—(his voice shook, words tripping over each other. )
I don’t know what’s in them. If I burned it and something important was there…
His voice cracked, but he stayed standing.
That only made her angrier.
Jimin's Mom(Tae's stepmom)
Oh?(she scoffed). Now you’re talking back?
(Her voice turned harsh, sharp like a blade.)
You know your uncle is allergic to dust! And you still didn’t clean this?!
Tae
I was just —(Tae whispered.)
Jimin's Mom(Tae's stepmom)
(She shouted.)You can’t even do your job properly!
Just then, a door opened.
Jimin
Mom? (Jimin walked in, confused. ) What’s happening? Why are you shouting?
She spun on him immediately.
Jimin's Mom(Tae's stepmom)
You!( she yelled.)
You’re the one giving him too much freedom! That’s why he forgets his place! He can’t even do his work properly!
Jimin’s expression darkened.

Mom can you please stop.... aren't you tired?!

Her face went pale with rage.

But Jimin didn’t stop.
Tae didn’t look back either.
