I am Elowen de' Vaelrith, the eldest princess and the heir to the crown of Kingdom Vaelrith.
I was expected to place duty above preference, stability above desire.

The room was colder than the rest of the palace. A long table and a map pinned down on the table.
Elowen stood in the chamber with her father at the head of the table, the generals arranged along its length.

General Thorne cleared his throat and stepped forward.

The eastern mountain pass, Your Highness.
Everyone's attention moved to the spot marked as the eastern pass on the map

That pass was guarded, wasn't it?
