The story begins at the grand palace of House Valen and the Rohen Court. Lady Elara Valen is the daughter of this house and resides there with her Father, Lord Cedric Valen who is currently the Chief Advisor and Administrator. She is from a respected and honourable family with her father being a figure of high importance.
Aside from this, Elara is also greatly admired for her great beauty, intelligence and grace. She always interacts with other nobles and searvants with respect and kindness. Although, not many people take her cleverness to account in addition to her other good qualities. Due to her physical appearance and her life style, people aspire to be like her, and many younger nobles look up to her.
Lady Selena Carrow, Elara’s Lady-in-Wating who also happens to be Elara’s closest friend is by her side as usual. Selena always wore a polite smile as she normally does, acting as if she is the ‘perfect’ friend. Elara had never seemed to have even the slightest of suspicion of Selena and she trusts her completely. But little does she know, she isn’t exactly the person she appears to be.
Every time Elara is complimented by others, Selena’s seemingly sincere expression, turns cold. Yet her expression quickly changes back to her regular expression of content. Her cold expression was fleetinging yet Elara failed to notice anything unusual.
Selena also tends to whisperer things to other nobles. However, when Elara asks what they’re talking about, she pretends that she was simply concerned about Elara. She often used excuses such as being worried that Elara is not eating properly or is not sleeping well.
Besides that, many courtiers gossip about Elara’s supposed perfection and how close Selena and Elara. Their relationship is frequently described as those of sisters. Their relationship is envied by many others, wishing they were this close to their real sister. Although, this is just how their relationship seemed to be like to the human eye.
Before Elara knew it, there were made up rumours about her questionable schemes that were entirely not true at all. The nobles start doubting how genuine Elara really is. Nobles began to talk to her less and less. Everyone started distancing themselveslves from her.
Elara began to get a growing suspicion of Selena that was never presented before this. But she refuses to believe that Selena would ever do such a thing to her. So she brushes of every growing suspicion of Selena, thinking it must not have been Selena who did it. But her suspicion of her, deep inside, only kept growing more and more.
At some point, this led to her humiliation in front of all of the royal court. Nobles had began to doubt her loyalty to the kingdom and the royal family. She tries to defend herself but it only causes her to outnumbered and undrminded. Elara realises that her life is slipping out of her control.
Selena turns out to be extremely jealous of Elara and she was the one who made rumours about her and ruined her life. She successfully succeeds in orchestrating Elara’s downfall, leaving her isolated and betrayed. She felt nothing but vulnerability and heplesness.
A tea was presented to her, as she sipped it in order to try to calm down, the tea tasted strange. Not like it usually tasted like. But when she realised it was drugged, she was too late. One sip secured her fate…
She collapses. All she could hear was a ringing noise, her life flashing by before her eyes. She knew for sure that it was over. That her so called perfect life has ended for good
But suddenly, she gasped for air and instantly sat up in what seemed to be a bed. Once she had woken up, she looked around her. This room, the bed she was laying on. It felt familiar. In fact, she knew we this room. It was her bedchamber. The golden draped curtains with the intrecate design. Her extravagant, luxurious four Poster bed that had sheets that felt almost like you’re laying on a cloud. She can’t be mistaken, this really is her room.
She looked at her mirror, her pale complexion, golden blond hair and her icy sky-blue eyes. She still looked exactly the same.
The door handle makes a click sounded as it slowly opened, it was Selene Carrow. Selene immediately dropped the try of food, her eyes widening. She quickly went to Elara, discarding the food she had just at dropped on the floor. She grabbed Elara into a tight embrace.
“Oh! Lady Elara!” she exclaimed in relief. “I’m glad you’re alright! Everyone was so worried about you!”
Elara just went along with it, reassuring Selena that she is fine.
‘I must have reincarnated like in those books I have read before. Who knew it is actually real?!’ she thought.
She knew that this time, her story would have to change.
She began acting ‘different’. Everyone’s noticed and gossiped about out how cold Elara has been after waking up fromm her coma and how her personality has changed drastically. She was no longer the sweet, kind girl everyone knew her to be.
After a few days of recovering, as the doctor had suggested her father to do. She went in the carriage with her father. The carriage made it’s usual trundling sound as they go through the town where the lower status people stayed.
Elara looked through the window, only to see a man who seemed to be protesting against the current Monarch. But two of guards who are usually around patrolling grabbed the man before he could say any more. He was being taken away. They seemed to be brining him to the direction of the palace. He still tried to protest about the Monarch’s methods of ruling. His family couldn’t do anything in but sob. His wife and son crying out to him. The carriage continued to drive past this scene.
Her heart ached at what she just witnessed. She felt bad for that family and thought that, that man was foolish to do something of this sort and leave his poor family behind with nothing. She thinks that he should have just at stated quite like everyone else. No one wanted to leave what they loved and cared about, just to make a point. Everyone feared their new Ruler. Not anyone in the whole kingdom wanted to know what would happen if they disobeyed him. Well, everyone accept for that man. He didn’t seem like he was afraid. She couldn’t tell if this man was truly brave or is really just a fool.
She asked her father where he was taking her to. He said that they were going to the Rohen Court. Her heart started beating faster, she has never been there before. She always dreaded going there.
No wonder her father didn’t answer her the first time she asked where they were going. He was worried about her, knowing that this court is not something to overlook upon. So he had reassured her instead, telling her that it’s nothing to worry about.
Now that she knew, she understood why her father didn’t answer her question then and there. She just grew more anxious. Being somewhere new would makes anyone worried. But it wasn’t just at new. This Court was Solemn.
As the carriage eased to a halt, the footman opened the door and he helped me out of the carriage. Her father followed after her. She looked up at the building, the pillars standing tall, holding the structureture in place. The building looked quite extravagantegant. She walked with her father on the crimson carpet and the marble stairs arm in arm. Her fathered reassured her that everything will be fine and that he is there for her as they reach the grand door. Two doormen opened one door each, the doors opened slowly, but simultaneously.
Some people glanced at them briefly as they entered the court. The atmosphere was heavy and oppressive, controlled. As always, there were guards everywhere, just like outside. The nobles seemed somewhat rigid and cautious of their surroundings. It’s almostst like everyone there was hyper-aware of who might be watchinging. It must be due to the fact that everyone knew that one slip up of a word can get you into trouble you didn’t ask for.
The emperor was announced by a Herald. The room fell into a tense atmosphere, more so than when the emperor wasn’t here. The court fell silent the moment he stepped in, with just his presence alone. There was no chief advisor like what monarch’s usually have and the previous monarch’s advisor was nowhere to be seen. Then, he began to speak.
He discussed a territorial issue about the neighbouring kingdom that claimed part of our land is their lands since our kingdoms are connected by the boarder. They prosumely just wanted more land, but the chosed the wrong place to get some.
Eeveryone agreed with him, yet my father didn’t say a word. All the nobles offered safe, obedient suggestions, not wanting to anger the emperor. They were playing it safe, avoiding risk and avoiding blame. The plan they had suggested was clearly flawed. She knew that if these people won’t say it, she had to say it for them.
”Your Imperial Majesty…” she steps forward and bows. “with all due respect, I do not thinking this plan would be effective.”
The court freezed. Her father tries to stop her, because he didn’t want to lose his daughter who he cared so deeply about. She was his only family left. Yet she didn’t let him stop her since what’s said has alreadyy been said, so there’s no going back.
Another high ranking noble, who happened to be close friends with her father, had apologised on her behalf as the gaurds went towards her, ready to remove her from the court. Everyone thought that Elara was more stupid than people thought. They thought that if she was smart, she would have stayed quite. Suddenly, Selena stepped up and asked the emperoror to spare Elara, and that she would go in Elara’s behalf. Elara was confusedsed about why the woman who killed her is trying too save her.
‘Maybe she is trying to not look suspicious in front of me’ she thought.
The Emperor raises his hand slightly at the gaurds to stop them from going on.
“There will be no need for that” his boice was calm but cold. “I’m not displeased by her behaviour. In fact, I find it quite amusing…”
What a relief. She definitely would have been done for and everyone knew it.
“Do you mind explaining me the flaw in this plan?” he continues.
Her eyes widen for a split second before going back to her nuteral expression.
”Yes, of course, Your Imperal Majesty.”
She explaned the flaws as he asked her to. He aknowlged her logic. He doesn’t fully agree yet he listened to what she had to say.
From that moment, she knew that the Emperor is dangerous, but he’s not irrational. He could be useful to her.
