The scent of iron lingered in the air, heavy enough to choke. At the center of the chamber lay the body of the King of Noctyrr, his blood staining the marble floor where he had fallen defending his people.
Queen Seraphel knelt beside him, her hands trembling as they hovered over his still chest. His eyes were open, staring into nothing, as if the world had ended before he could close them.
She pressed her forehead to his armor, breath hitching, grief threatening to tear her apart—but she did not scream.
Footsteps echoed beyond the chamber. Human hunters. Verum Lux. They were close—too close.
