In the End It's Me and You
The Heavy Gray Sky
The Professor gathers his messy stack of papers and walks out of the classroom.
Students swarm out, chattering and laughing. The sound of chairs scraping the floor fills the room until, one by one, they all leave.
The room goes quiet. Only one student remains by the window, staring out at the gray, heavy clouds. We only see his back.
Just then, a boy comes running and skid to a halt at the doorway. He stands there breathing heavily, and call out to the other student.
Felix Grant
*gasping for air*HEY!
The student doesn’t move. He is lost in thought.
Felix Grant
Hellooo? Earth to you! Are you even listening?
Felix walks over, spinning a pen between his fingers. He reaches out and taps the student firmly on the shoulder.
The boy snaps his head around. His face is revealed—sharp and handsome, but his eyes look cold and exhausted.
Felix Grant
I’ve been calling you from the door! Let’s go, everyone else is already gone.
Silas Vane
*Without looking at him, voice cold*If you want a favor, just say it. You don't have to keep following me.
Felix Grant
*Rolls his eyes and looks Silas dead in the eye, looking genuinely annoyed*
Felix Grant
Don't be stupid. I didn't become your friend just to make you work. Stop talking rubbish and pack your bag. We have to leave.
Silas huffs a short, dry breath—not quite a laugh, but the closest thing to it. He stops fighting and finally reaches for his bag. They walk out into the hallway together.
Felix Grant
*Immediately starting to talk again* And then the Professor expected us to finish that whole project! Like, does he think I don't have a life? I barely have time to sleep.
Silas stops. He pulls out his phone and looks at the screen. His face goes completely blank.
Felix Grant
*He stops mid-sentence, his face turning serious as he notices Silas's reaction*
Felix Grant
…Is it your parents again?
Felix Grant
You gonna pick up or not?
Silas stares at the flashing screen for a beat, then slides the phone back into his pocket.
Silas walks away toward the exit. Felix watches him for a second, looking worried, before following him out into the gray afternoon.
Peeks into the room to see if everyone is still there.

The Gray world
The sun has set, leaving the sky a deep, bruised purple. Silas stands on the sidewalk, having walked Felix to his gate. He watches Felix walk toward his front door. Through the windows, a soft, warm yellow light glows, and the faint sound of laughter can be heard from inside.
Silas Vane
*Silas stares at the scene for a beat and mumbles to himself*"A small home but a lovely home... a real home."
He turns away, his hands shoved deep into his pockets, the warmth of that thought fading as he walks alone into the shadows of the street.
After a long walk, Silas stands in front of his own gate. His house isn't overly large, but in the dim evening light, it looks heavy, cold, and imposing. He stares at the dark wood of the front door for a long moment, then closes his eyes and lets out a long, cold breath that shivers in the air.
He walks up and knocks. The door is opened by his mother, Margaret. She doesn't greet him; she just looks at him with a cold, piercing gaze before stepping aside without a word. Silas enters the narrow hallway. The air inside feels thin and suffocating.
Margaret Vane
"Why didn't you answer your phone?"
Silas Vane
"I was at the library. My phone was on silent. That's why I couldn't pick up."
Suddenly, the heavy, rhythmic thud of footsteps echoes from the living room. Richard appears, his presence making the small hallway feel even tighter.
Richard Vane
"But university is closed at this hour. What were you doing in the library?"
Silas Vane
*Looking down at the floorboards*"I was just studying. Nothing else."
Richard Vane
*Stepping into Silas’s space, his voice dropping to a dangerous low*"Look at me and speak."
Silas slowly raises his head, his heart thudding against his ribs. Before he can even find his voice, Richard’s hand flashes through the air. A sharp, stinging crack rings out as his palm slams into Silas’s cheek. The force sends Silas’s head jerking to the side, his ears ringing. His skin immediately flares hot, a throbbing pulse starting in his jaw.
Richard Vane
*Gritting his teeth*"We provide you with food. We give you clothes to wear. We pay your university fees. And you ignore our calls? What else can we even expect from kids like you?"
Silas Vane
*Voice low, still looking at the floor*"I am sorry, Father."
Richard Vane
"Get out of my sight!"
Silas looks at his mother. She remains motionless, staring at him with eyes full of a cold, quiet disappointment. Silas turns and quickly heads for the stairs.
Silas freezes, his hand trembling on the banister.
Richard Vane
"You ever think about ignoring my calls again, you'll see what I'll do to you. Am I clear?"
Silas Vane
"I understand, Father."
Silas reaches his room and turns the key.
He locks the world out. He drops his bag on the floor—it hits the ground with a heavy thud—and directly lies back on the bed on his back. He just stares at the ceiling, feeling the heat still burning on his face, closes his eyes, and whispers:
After a long while, Silas finally forces himself up. He moves like a ghost into the bathroom to take a shower.
The steady hiss of a shower running
He stays in there for a long time, letting the water wash away the day. When he finally emerges, he walks back into the bedroom with a towel draped over his shoulder, slowly rubbing his wet hair dry.
He walks over to his cupboard and opens it. He reaches deep into the corner, behind some clothes, and pulls out a hidden box. Holding the box with one hand, he uses his other hand to quietly shut the cupboard door.
He sits down on the floor and carefully opens the lid. Inside is a Camera. He picks it up gently, his fingers tracing the lens. The moment his hands touch the camera, his breathing slows down. The tension in his shoulders fades, and he finally looks calm—relaxed for the first time all day.
He turns the camera on, checking if it’s working, a small spark of life returning to his eyes.
A sharp, sudden knock on his bedroom door
Silas freezes. His heart stops. He snaps his head toward the doorway, his eyes wide with fear.

The Audit & The Warning
A sharp knock hit the bedroom door, loud enough to make the wood rattle.
Margaret Vane
"Silas? Come downstairs. Dinner is ready."
Silas Vane
*Trying to steady his voice*"I... I'm coming. You go ahead, Mother"
Silas heard her footsteps move away, heading toward the top of the stairs. He let out a shaky breath, but then the sound stopped. The hallway went completely silent.
Margaret Vane
*Calling back from the stairs*"Silas... open the door."
Silas stood frozen in the middle of the room. He didn't answer. He heard her turn around. Her footsteps were heavier this time, coming back to the door and stopping right in front of it.
Margaret Vane
*Her voice sharp and loud*"Silas! Open the door!"
Panic surged through him. He quickly shoved the camera box deep under the bed into the dark shadows and pulled the door open. He was slightly out of breath.
Margaret Vane
*Her eyes narrowed, searching his face*"What were you doing?"
Silas Vane
"Nothing... I was... I was showering."
Margaret didn't say anything. Her eyes drifted past him into the room. She looked at the towel rack and saw the towel—rumpled and damp from his hair. She stared at it for a long moment, auditing his excuse.
Margaret Vane
"Okay. Go downstairs. Your father is calling you."
Silas couldn't help it. Before he walked out, he looked back into his room one last time, checking the floor under the bed to make sure the box was hidden. He quickly hurried past her and went downstairs fast.
Margaret stayed behind. She gripped the door handle and stood at the threshold, looking into the room one last time. She audited every corner with her eyes before she finally clicked the door shut.
[THE DINNER ROOM]
When Silas reached the bottom of the stairs, he saw Richard already sitting at the head of the table. The moment their eyes met, Silas looked down at the floor. He walked over and stood quietly behind his chair, waiting.
Silas sat down in silence. A moment later, Margaret came downstairs and took her seat. The atmosphere was cold. She began to serve the food while Richard kept his eyes on Silas.
Richard Vane
"Silas, how are your studies going?"
Silas Vane
"I mean... good."
Richard Vane
"Ok. Do you need anything?"
Richard began to eat. Silas just sat there, staring blankly at his plate, lost in his own thoughts. He didn't even pick up his spoon.
Margaret Vane
"Silas, don't be so picky with your food. Just eat."
Silas snapped out of it and started eating slowly, keeping his head down. Margaret and Richard ignored him then, talking to each other in low voices about the business. After a few bites, Silas couldn't take the tension anymore. He stood up suddenly.
Richard Vane
*Staring at him with cold, evaluating eyes*"Ok then. Good night."
Silas Vane
"Good night, father."
Silas picked up his plate and walked quickly to the kitchen.
Silas stood at the sink with the water running, focused on washing his plate. He heard footsteps behind him. Margaret walked in and stood right beside him.
Margaret Vane
"What happened to you?"
Silas Vane
*Not looking up*"Nothing."
Margaret Vane
*In a low, warning voice*"Don't do anything that would make me and your father angry."
Silas stopped washing for a second. He looked at her, then looked back down at the sink and continued.
She turned and left the kitchen. Silas stood there alone at the sink, finally able to breathe.
