When Silence Loved Us

Episode 1

Seo-jun was the kind of name people whispered more than they spoke out loud.

Some said he belonged to a powerful family. Others said he was involved in things students should stay away from. No one knew the truth, but everyone had a story. Because of that, people kept their distance from him, even in a school full of noise and laughter.

He was rich, popular, and untouchable. Teachers treated him carefully. Students moved aside when he walked past. It was as if an invisible line followed him everywhere.

Ana heard those rumors on her very first day of high school.

She sat near the window, listening quietly while her classmates talked. She did not join them. Talking was never her strength. Coming from an average family, she had learned early to stay unnoticed and mind her own space.

“Don’t get close to Seo-jun,” a girl whispered from the front row.

“They say he’s dangerous,” another added.

“Someone like a gang leader,” someone laughed nervously.

Ana looked up without meaning to.

Seo-jun was sitting at the back of the classroom, his posture relaxed but his expression distant. He did not talk to anyone. He did not look around. His face showed no interest in the rumors that followed him so closely.

He did not look dangerous to her.

He looked tired.

When the bell rang, students rushed out in groups. Ana stayed behind, packing her bag slowly. As she stood up, her books slipped from her hands and fell to the floor. She froze, embarrassed, hoping no one noticed.

A shadow fell in front of her.

She looked up and saw Seo-jun standing there, holding her notebook. His face was calm, his eyes unreadable.

“You dropped this,” he said, his voice low and steady.

“Thank you,” Ana replied softly as she took it from him.

For a brief moment, their eyes met.

There was no coldness in his gaze. No danger. Just silence—deep and unreadable.

Seo-jun walked away without another word.

Ana stood there for a second longer than necessary, her heart beating faster for reasons she could not explain. That day, she understood something strange and confusing.

She was afraid of the rumors around him.

But she was drawn to the quiet boy behind them.

And without knowing how or why, Seo-jun stayed on her mind long after the classroom was empty.

After that day, Ana started noticing Seo-jun more than she wanted to.

Not because she was curious about the rumors, but because he kept appearing in small, unexpected ways. He was always quiet, always distant, yet somehow always near when she needed space.

In the cafeteria, seats around him stayed empty. Students preferred standing rather than sitting close to him. Ana noticed this while eating alone at the corner table, carefully counting how much she spent on lunch. She saw Seo-jun sit by himself, untouched by the noise around him.

Their eyes met once.

Ana looked away immediately, feeling foolish for staring. She reminded herself that he belonged to a different world. Rich people always did.

Later that day, a group of boys blocked the hallway near the lockers. They were loud, laughing too much, taking up space that did not belong to them. Ana slowed her steps, unsure how to pass without drawing attention.

Before she could turn back, the boys moved aside.

Seo-jun walked through the middle of them without saying a word. His presence alone was enough. The laughter died down. The hallway cleared.

Ana followed quietly behind him.

He did not look back.

But he slowed his steps.

It was such a small thing that Ana wondered if she imagined it. Still, her heart felt strangely warm.

At home that evening, Ana helped her mother prepare dinner. The apartment was small, and the walls were thin, but it was filled with familiar comfort. As she washed the dishes, her thoughts wandered back to school.

He doesn’t act like the rumors, she thought.

If he really was dangerous, why would he be so careful?

She shook her head, trying to push those thoughts away.

At school, Seo-jun remained the same to everyone else. Cold. Silent. Untouchable. But when Ana passed by, his gaze lingered for just a second longer than necessary.

They never spoke again that week.

Yet somehow, silence began to feel like a conversation of its own.

Ana did not realize it then, but this was how it started. Not with words. Not with confessions.

Just with quiet moments that slowly pulled two distant worlds closer together.

Episode 2

The next day, Ana tried to stay out of Seo-jun’s way, but somehow, they ended up in the same classroom again. She kept her head down, pretending to focus on her notebook, but she could feel him across the room, calm and untouchable as always.

During lunch, she went to the cafeteria earlier than usual. She wanted a quiet corner, away from the usual crowd. As she sat down, she noticed him walking in, alone. The noise around him seemed to fade, and every head turned without him needing to look.

Ana’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly looked down at her tray, pretending she hadn’t seen him.

Then, without warning, a small tray bumped against hers. Ana looked up.

Seo-jun stood there, holding a sandwich she had almost dropped from the table next to her.

“Here,” he said quietly. “You dropped it.”

“Ah… thank you,” Ana murmured, cheeks warm.

Her hands shook slightly as she accepted the food.

He nodded once, a small motion, then turned to walk away. She wanted to say something else but didn’t know what. Words always failed her around him.

All day, Ana kept thinking about that small moment. She wondered why someone like Seo-jun, surrounded by whispers and fear, would notice her at all.

The following week, small things continued to happen. A chair moved slightly when she entered a crowded classroom. A textbook fell from a desk, and a hand was there before she even reached for it. He never said much, never smiled widely, never drew attention—but he was always there when she needed him.

Ana’s friends noticed.

“Why do you keep looking at him?” one whispered one day.

“I’m not,” Ana said quickly, but her heart betrayed her.

Every day, it became harder to ignore. And every day, the quiet tension between them grew—a conversation without words, a connection that no one else understood.

Ana didn’t know then what Seo-jun was thinking, and he never revealed it. But little by little, the ice around him was starting to crack—just enough for her to see the soft side no one else ever did.

And though they still didn’t speak their feelings, both of them knew something had changed. Something small, something dangerous to their quiet lives.

They liked each other.

They just didn’t know how to say it.

It was a rainy afternoon when Ana found herself running late to class.

Her umbrella had flipped inside out, leaving her drenched and frustrated.

She ducked into the classroom, shaking off water and ignoring the curious glances of her classmates.

From the back, she heard a familiar voice.

“You always seem to have trouble with the rain.”

Ana froze. Seo-jun was standing there, holding a large black umbrella. His hair was damp, but he looked calm, untouchable, and somehow in control of the entire classroom.

“Uh… I… it’s just…” Ana stammered, looking away.

He held the umbrella out for her, not saying a word. Ana hesitated, then stepped under it. It was big enough to cover them both, and she couldn’t help but notice how close they were, without him moving an inch.

“Thanks,” she murmured.

He nodded and walked to his desk, leaving her confused and, more than she wanted to admit, happy.

From that day on, Ana noticed small gestures: a pencil returned without being asked, a jacket draped over her chair when it was cold, a book saved from falling off a desk. Each gesture was quiet, subtle, almost invisible—but Ana felt them all.

She didn’t want to admit it, but her thoughts were beginning to revolve around Seo-jun more than they should.

Episode 3

One afternoon, during a group project, Ana and Seo-jun ended up paired together. Ana’s heart started racing the moment she realized it.

Seo-jun sat opposite her, expression calm, silent, observing her as if he already knew her thoughts. Ana struggled to speak. Words that made sense in her head evaporated the moment they left her mouth.

“You can start,” he said softly, breaking the silence.

Ana nodded and began. They worked together quietly, exchanging small glances and notes. He corrected her mistakes gently, never raising his voice, never acting impatient. She realized he was paying attention—not to her work only, but to her.

When the teacher called the class over for presentation practice, Seo-jun waited patiently while Ana stumbled over her words. And when the teacher praised her group, he gave her a small, approving nod—so subtle that no one else noticed, but it made Ana’s heart flutter.

After class, she walked home slowly, thinking about him. She hated that her mind was always drawn to him. But she also knew one thing clearly: she liked him.

Not loudly. Not boldly. But quietly, softly, in a way that felt like a secret even she wasn’t ready to admit.

Graduation came too quickly. The classrooms, once filled with noise and chatter, now felt empty and silent. Friends hugged, laughed, and said their goodbyes. Ana walked slowly through the halls, taking in every detail—the faded posters, the scratched desks, the memories tucked into every corner.

She thought about the small moments she had shared with Seo-jun. The lunches, the quiet gestures, the notes he passed without anyone noticing. She realized how much she would miss him.

Near the school gate, she spotted him. Seo-jun stood tall, expression calm as always, yet there was something different today—something softer in his eyes.

“You’re leaving,” he said simply, his voice low but steady.

Ana nodded. “Yeah… I guess this is it.”

There was a pause. Neither of them spoke. Words felt impossible, heavy with unspoken feelings.

Seo-jun reached into his pocket and handed her a folded piece of paper. “For you,” he said.

Ana unfolded it carefully. Inside was a small note written in neat handwriting:

Don’t forget… sometimes silence says more than words.

Her heart ached at the simplicity of it. She wanted to say something—anything—but the words wouldn’t come. Instead, she gave him a small, shy smile. He nodded once, acknowledging her without needing more.

The crowd of students moved past them, teachers called out names, and the air buzzed with excitement about the future. But for Ana, time felt frozen. This moment, small and quiet, was theirs alone.

As Seo-jun walked away, untouchable and calm to everyone else, Ana felt a strange mix of sadness and hope. He had always been distant to others, yet somehow gentle and soft for her.

She knew one thing clearly: they liked each other. They always had. And even though life was pulling them apart, Ana could not shake the feeling that this wasn’t the end.

Graduation marked the closing of one chapter in her life, but Ana felt deep inside that the story with Seo-jun was far from over. Something was waiting—something quiet, delicate, and perhaps inevitable.

And with that thought, she stepped forward into the unknown, carrying the memory of his silence and the warmth of his unspoken words with her.
