A child’s faint whisper under the ice:

Snow falls thick. A lonely two-story house faces a vast frozen lake.

ELI comes around from the driver’s side.

From the backseat, LILA watches the lake. Unblinking.
Dusty. Cold. Furniture draped in sheets.
Eli turns on lights. Some flicker.
