CONTENT PREVIEW

He was a poor loser. Constantly despised and humiliated by his girlfriend, he finally abandoned his stable but uninspiring life and resolutely embarked on the path of entrepreneurship - determined to make a fortune and turn his life around. However, just as he was making progress, a major obstacle appeared in his path. That "obstacle" was none other than a rich playboy from Beijing. Hidden away in the suburbs, this young master spent his days raising snakes for fun and shirking responsibility. Eventually, his government-official father forcibly dragged him out and ordered him to toughen up through hands-on experience in various public institutions. When he worked as a street vendor, the playboy's father kicked him into working as urban management (city inspector). When he had no choice but to resort to petty theft, the playboy got assigned as police officer. Even when he was recklessly driving while making deliveries, it just so happened to be the very first day the playboy started work as a traffic cop. And the most infuriating part? His ex-girlfriend shamelessly started following him around like a lovesick puppy! Fine! If I can’t outplay you, then maybe I’ll just steal you instead! Watch how a kind-hearted, soft-tempered poor loser, after suffering blow after blow, turns into a cunning, deeply calculating dark horse - and how he manages to conquer the cold-blooded, iron-hearted, flirtatious playboy, taming him into a loyal puppy who loves, protects, and cherishes only his wife!

CHAPTER 1 ~ let's break-up

“You find a shady spot and wait there. I’ll be right over to pick you up!”

Wu Qi Qiong hung up the phone, wiped his hands with a dishcloth, and cheerfully went into the inner room to change clothes.

“She’s here?”

Wu’s mom followed him inside to ask. While peeling the sweat-stuck tank top off his rough-skinned body, Wu Qi Qiong glanced at his mom with his big, round eyes, unable to hide the grin on his face.

“She’s here.”

Today was the first time Wu Qi Qiong’s girlfriend was going to meet his parents. The sun blazed overhead. Cicadas screamed hoarsely in the heat. Not far from the Wu family’s home stood a large trash bin. Every year around this time, its rancid stench would waft into the kitchens of all nearby homes. As Wu Qi Qiong passed the bin, a sticky ice cream wrapper clung to the bottom of his shoe. He stomped hard and scraped it off, sending hundreds of flies scattering in all directions.Yue Yue stood at the mouth of the alley, her face filled with irritation and impatience. As she saw Wu Qi Qiong approaching, she suddenly felt a surge of disgust. She wasn’t sure if it was because of the jiggle in his belly, the two stubborn tufts of hair poking up on his head, or that face, greasy and grimy from constant exposure to kitchen smoke…

“Let’s go, dinner’s almost ready.”

Wu Qiqiong reached out to take Yue Yue’shand. She suddenly pulled away, her face hidden in the shade of a tree, eyes cool and unreadable.

“What’s wrong? Are you nervous?”

Wu Qi Qiong smiled warmly.

“It’s okay, my mom’s just a rural woman. She won’t make things difficult. She’s been excited ever since she found out you were coming—been looking forward to it for two days! Got up early this morning to buy groceries.”

“Maybe… we should break up.”

Yue Yue said.Wu Qi Qiong thought he’d misheard. He stared at her, dumbfounded, speechless fora long moment.

“The way we are now,”

 Yue Yue continued,

“it’s really boring.”

“Boring? I think it’s great!”

Yue Yue gave a bitter smile.

 “That’s you.”

With that, she turned to leave, but Wu Qi Qiong grabbed her arm.

“Yue Yue, we’ve been together for seven years. You can’t just say break up andgo. At least give me a reason.

”Yue Yue shot him a sideways glance

.“Does the seven-year itch count?"

“If it itches, I’ll scratch it!”

“Scratch your damn uncle!”

Yue Yue suddenly snapped. Her pretty lips spat sharpwords:

“Don’t joke around with me. I’m not playing. Starting today, we’reofficially done. From now on, we’re just friends.”

“Why? Why break up when everything’s fine?”

Wu Qi Qiong was still trying tosalvage things. “Tell me what I’m doing wrong. I’ll change.”

Yue Yue rolled her eyes.

“Everything’s wrong. You’d need to be reincarnated.”But Wu Qi iong stayed stubborn.“I don’t believe it.”

“You don’t believe it? And why not?”

Yue Yue’s lovely face flushed red with anger.

“I didn’t want to spell it out to spare your pride, but since you’re begging for it, fine- let’s talk it out.

”Wu Qi Qiong looked like he was all ears, sincere and ready to repent.Yue Yue took a deep breath and pointed at his double chin.“

Look at you. Since we got together, how much weight have you gained? Remember back in freshman year how slim you were? You were in shape! Now? Every step you take leaves a dent in the ground. Walking beside you feels like I’m walking a Tibetan Mastiff.”

“Didn’t you say back then that skinny guys don’t feel safe?”

Wu Qi Qiong protested .

“Yeah, I did,”

Yue Yue flung her bag onto the ground.

“But now you’ve got so much damn security, I could cry! Do you know? Lately I’ve been dreaming that there’s another woman between us - and I always wake up smiling.”

CHAPTER 2: Help! Someone’s Tried to Kill Themselves!

Yue Yue’s sharp tongue was nothing new - Wu Qi Qiong had long since gotten used to it. He didn’t stoop to argue. Instead, he bent down, picked up her bag, and handed it back with an apologetic smile.

“If you don’t like me like this, I can lose weight for you.”

“Don’t bother. This isn’t about a few dozen pounds. Fat can be lost, but stinginess? That’s hopeless! Every time we go shopping, you only want discounted stuff. At the supermarket, you only grab sale items. Even when booking a hotel, you pick the ones with no internet and no AC! All my girlfriend have their own cars now. Me? I’m still crammed on buses and subways!”

Wu Qi Qiong tried to soothe her patiently.

“Beijing’s traffic is terrible and gas prices are sky-high. Driving’s just not cost-effective.”

Yue Yue snapped back in frustration.

“Right, your monthly salary is barely over two thousand. With how expensive everything is in Beijing, having a girlfriend must be such a bad deal, huh? To save you money, let’s just break up.”

“Don’t do this…”

Wu Qi qiong pleaded in a small voice.

“I don’t mind spending money on you.”

“Oh yeah, a whole two thousand yuan. What’s there to mind? Even if you want all out, you’d barely cover a bowl of fermented mung bean soup and two fried dough rings. You’re a graduate from a top university, stuck in a nine-to-fivejob, earning less than someone with a vocational degree. My childhood friend didn’t even finish high school, and she’s driving a BMW now. You can’t afford BMW, fine, but shouldn’t you at least be driving a Pass at?”

Wu Qi Qiong took out a tissue and gently wiped the sweat from her forehead.

“Don’t worry, don’t worry. In a few years, I’ll buy one.”

“A few years? With that measly salary of yours, and in that dump of a house your family lives in, you seriously brought me here for dinner? Wu Qi Qiong,Wu Desperately Poor - you really live up to your name. Face it, a guy namedlike you will never make it rich. Go on back inside. Just tell your mom we broke up.”

Yue Yue turned to leave. Wu Qi Qiong reached for her again, and the two Began tugging at each other. Even the neighbor’s dog started barking.

“Is there really no chance at all?”

Wu Qi Qiong’s eyes were rimmed with red.

To be honest, Yue Yue wasn’t truly heartless. If she were, she would’ve broken things off long ago. Seeing Wu Qi Qiong like this stirred up some guilt—but the feelings were gone. Sooner or later, she had to make a clean break. Dragging things out would only make it worse.

“Wu Qi Qiong, to be honest, it’s not just about money. I hate that you have no ambition. Since we got together, you’ve never done anything bold, not once. I mean, even if you got mad and yelled at me for once, that would at least be something! People say you’re steady and dependable, but the truth is, you’rejust spineless. You’re stuck.”

At the base of the utility pole behind Yue Yue sat a loose brick. Wu Qi Qiong stared at it blankly and suddenly remembered a short story from Zhao San Mu Si, where the male protagonist kept bashing his head with a brick to win back his lover, ultimately creating a touching tale of tragic romance.

“I’d die for you.”

Wu Qi Qiong suddenly blurted out.Yue Yue didn’t even blink. She laughed like it was a joke.

“Don’t die for me. Just slice your arm a bit, and I’ll call you ‘sir’.”

Wu Qi Qiong, shaking all over, slowly walked toward the utility pole. He bent down and picked up the chipped brick with trembling hands, like wind-blown bamboo. After managing to grip it steady, he turned to look at Yue Yue, his lips quivering.

“I… I really will do it. Don’t regret it.”

Yue Yue gave him a sideways glance, not taking him seriously at all. She turned and walked away. Bang!Yue Yue froze mid-step. She spun around - and her face went pale with shock. Wu Qi Qiong lay collapsed on the ground, body twitching, blood pouring from his forehead.

“Qi Qiong! Qi Qiong! Don’t scare me like this! Somebody help! Someone’s tried to kill themselves!”…
