Dinner table conversations were always about finances, siblings, or problems.
She sat there quietly eating.
Morning sunlight slipped through the thin curtains and fell across her face.
A small, almost childish hope resting in her chest.
Maybe today would feel different.
She got up, dressed, and stepped into the living room.

Dinner that night was simple and quiet.
Halfway through the meal martin spoke something which caught everyone's attention

No candles. No wishes.
