Sanjukta's THROUGH THE LENS OF HER

The Ink And The Ivy

Chapter 1: The Ink and the Ivy

The South Park Street Cemetery doesn’t belong to the living.

The heavy, iron gates seem to swallow the noise of the city, replacing the honking of yellow taxis with the dripping of moss-covered stone. She is there, as she always is when the world gets too loud. She isn't mourning; she’s breathing.

She sits on the edge of a weathered, 19th-century tomb, her legs crossed, a leather-bound journal resting on her knees. The air smells of damp earth and old secrets. While the rest of Calcutta is rushing toward tea stalls and office desks, she is carving words into paper. To her, the dead are better listeners than the living.

A man in a tattered grey shawl passes by—the old caretaker, perhaps, or a ghost the sun hasn't chased away yet. He doesn't look at her, and she doesn't look at him. There is a silent pact here: 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘣 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨.

The sky above the towering monuments turns a bruised purple. A low rumble of thunder shakes the ivy. She looks up, catching the first heavy drop of rain on the back of her hand. It’s nearly 9:00 AM. In twenty minutes, she has to be a student in a crowded hall, but here, she is the queen of a silent empire.

She closes the book with a soft thud, tucks it into her bag, and walks toward the exit just as the clouds break. By the time she reaches the street, the rain is a curtain, blurring the faces of the shopkeepers as they scramble to cover their wares with blue plastic sheets.

She blends into the crowd, just another girl in the rain. But the ink in her bag is still wet, and the thoughts she left on the page are far more dangerous than the storm.

The Atmosphere & Vibe

The Setting: Gothic monuments, deep greens, grey stone, and the sudden, violent blur of a Calcutta monsoon.

The Gesture: A quiet, steady hand. A calm face in a place most people find terrifying.

The Mystery: Who is the man in the shawl? Why does she choose a cemetery for "therapy"?

Next Step: Chapter 2 (The Silent Transcript)

We’ll follow her from the peace of the graves into the chaos of the city, ending the day with a "twist" that proves her life isn't as simple as it looks

In Chapter 2, the routine of her return is disrupted by a small, misplaced detail. While navigating the familiar halls of her college, she notices a specific person watching her—not with the curiosity of a classmate, but with the recognition of someone who knows exactly where she was during those missing months.

As she scans the room, she realizes a conversation she thought was private has been recorded in a way she didn't expect. The twist lies in a simple, handwritten note left inside a book she hasn't opened in years, containing a date that hasn't happened yet. It’s a quiet realization that while she was busy studying the world, the world was already documenting her every move.
