THAT NIGHT (One Chapter Story)
At Office
The office floor was supposed to be empty.
Leo knew because he always stayed later than everyone else... lights dimmed, jacket off, tie loosened just enough to breathe. Numbers blurred on the screen when the lights flickered once… then went out.
Footsteps echoed down the hallway a minute later. Unhurried. Confident.
Unknown
Anyone still alive in here?
A voice called. Amused. Male.
Leo looked up just as the door opened.
Jack leaned against the frame, tool belt slung low on his hips, sleeves rolled up, forearms marked with faint scars and grease. He took one look at Leo... sitting alone in the dark office, glasses slightly crooked... and smiled like he’d found exactly what he wasn’t looking for.
Jack
Didn’t think I’d have company
Jack
You always work this late, or am I just lucky?
Jack stepped inside anyway.
Jack
Electrician. Building issue. Relax.
He moved toward the fuse box near Leo’s desk, close enough that Leo caught the faint smell of metal and soap. Jack reached up, arm brushing past Leo’s shoulder.... not accidental. Definitely not.
Jack
Office do that to you?
Jack glanced down at him.
Jack
You say that like you’re trying to convince yourself.
The lights snapped back on.
The moment stretched... too quiet, too aware. Jack straightened slowly, eyes lingering like he wasn’t in a hurry to leave. Leo hated that his pulse gave him away.
Jack
But if you want, I can stay. Make sure it doesn’t… go out again.
Leo met his gaze. Cold. Measured.
Jack
You still didn’t say no.
Jack’s smile changed... less teasing, more intent.
And somewhere between the click of the lock and Jack stepping closer, Leo realized this was exactly how trouble started.
