THE PRESIDENT'S WORST ENEMY
Worst first day of school
Large school hall, students seated. Leah stands confidently on stage, giving her usual polished speech.
leah
“…and that is why discipline and academic excellence are the pillars of our school. Thank you for your attention.
Applause from most of the students. Leah smiles, proud.
Jaden, sitting near the back, raises his hand casually. Everyone turns to him.
Jaden
“Madam President… when was the last time you asked what the students actually want instead of just telling them?”
Leah freezes, slightly flustered. Whispered gasps fill the room.
Jaden
Jaden (smiling):
“Your worst enemy, apparently.”
Class erupts in laughter and whispers. Leah’s eyes narrow slightly, lips pressed in a small frown.
Leah’s classroom after assembly. Students gossip about the “worst enemy.” Leah walks past Jaden, glaring.
leah
Leah (thinking):
How dare he… thinks he can just humiliate me in front of everyone?
Jaden leans back in his chair, smirking.
Jaden
“Relax, President. I’m just keeping you on your toes.”
Leah crosses her arms, lips pursed, trying not to blush despite herself.
leah
“I don’t need anyone to keep me on my toes. Especially not you.”
Jaden grins wider, clearly enjoying the verbal sparring.
The truce that wasn't made
Morning sun pours over Westbrook High. Leah stands at the front gate with a clipboard, checking uniforms like a soldier guarding a kingdom.
leah
Leah (thinking):
Student Council presidents don’t get days off. Especially not with people like Jaden existing
Jaden
Right on cue, Jaden strolls in with his tie loose and headphones around his neck.
leah
“Uniform violation. Fix that tie.”
Jaden
Jaden (grinning): “Good morning to you too, Your Majesty.”
leah
“Don’t call me that.”
She glares. He laughs and walks away.
Rina
Inside the council room, Leah meets her best friend Rina, the vice-president.
Rina
“Bad news. The school festival budget got cut.”
Leah almost drops her pen.
leah
“Half?! We already planned everything!”
Teacher advisor Mr. Collins enters.
Mr. Collins: “You’ll need creative ideas. Maybe… teamwork with other clubs?”
At that exact moment, the door opens. Guess who
Jaden
“I’m here on behalf of the Sports Committee.”
Mr. Collins: “Actually, Jaden has the highest fundraising record in the school.”
leah
Leah (thinking):
Him? Helpful? This is a trap.
Temporary Alliance
Leah and Jaden are forced to sit at the same table.
leah
“Let’s be clear. I don’t trust you
Jaden
“Feeling’s mutual, President
leah
“We need money ideas. Serious ones.”
He smirks like he just won a battle.
Jaden
“See? We’re already bonding.”
Leah stays late decorating posters. She struggles to reach the top of the board.
A hand suddenly sticks the poster perfectly in place.
Jaden
“You’re kinda short for a scary president.”
Jaden
“You literally jumped.”
Jaden
Jaden (softer): “The festival matters to you, huh?”
leah
“Of course. I want this school to feel… happy.”
Jaden looks at her differently for a second.
Jaden
“Then I’ll help. For real.”
The next day, Leah finds a full proposal on her desk—neat handwriting, real plans, even a budget.
“Try not to faint from gratitude – J.”
Leah sighs… but she’s smiling.
leah
Leah (thinking):
Maybe he’s not just an enemy… still annoying though.
Jaden waves from the hallway.
Jaden
“Partners, President?”
He laughs as the bell rings.
