🌑 MIDNIGHT BUS 27
EPISODE 1 — 11:47 PM
The bus always smelled faintly of rain and metal after midnight.
Genevieve liked that.
It felt sterile. Predictable. Emotionless.
Unlike people.
She sat in her usual seat — left side, third row from the back. Black blazer still sharp despite her fourteen-hour workday. Long hair tied low at the nape of her neck. No makeup. No softness.
Earphones in. Music low.
Her reflection stared back at her through the rain-streaked window.
Controlled. Composed. Detached.
The bus stopped.
Someone stepped in.
Soft footsteps. Light.
She felt it before she heard it — a presence beside her.
Tania
“Is this seat taken?”
The voice was warm.
Genevieve didn’t look up.
The woman sat anyway.
There was a faint scent — vanilla? Sugar?
Not perfume. Something natural.
Silence.
Genevieve kept looking forward.
Then—
Curiosity won.
She turned.
And that was her first mistake.
The woman beside her looked young. Twenty-five at most. Long dark hair falling loose around her shoulders. Skin pale but glowing softly under fluorescent light. Eyes warm. Alive.
She was smiling.
At her.
Tania
“You don’t talk much”
Genevieve
“I don’t need to.”
That should have ended it.
But Tania laughed softly.
Tania
“I like quiet people.”
Genevieve frowned slightly.
Why? She wondered..
The bus moved.
A sharp turn.
Their shoulders brushed.
Tania’s skin was cold.
Not normal cold.
Winter stone cold.
Genevieve noticed.
She always noticed.
But she didn’t move away.

EPISODE 2 — Cold and Warm
The next night, she told herself she wouldn’t care.
She boarded Bus 27 at 11:47 PM like always.
Same seat.
Same rain.
Three stops later—
Tania entered.
Smiling.
Again.
Tania
“You’re consistent.”
Tania said as she sat beside her.
Tania
“Do you always sit here?”
Tania
“Waiting for someone?”
Tania
“Are you always this unfriendly?”
Tania laughed again.
Genevieve studied her from the corner of her eye.
There was something strange about her skin under light.
Almost too smooth.
Too flawless.
Genevieve
“Corporate strategy.”
Tania
“That sounds lonely.”
Genevieve finally turned fully toward her.
Genevieve
“Why would you say that?”
Tania
“You have the face of someone who carries too much alone.”
The words hit harder than expected.
Genevieve didn’t respond.
She didn’t like being read.
Especially not correctly.
When the bus hit a bump, Tania’s hand instinctively caught Genevieve’s wrist.
Her grip was gentle.
But her skin—
Ice.
Genevieve’s pulse jumped under her fingers.
Tania pulled away quickly.
Their eyes locked.
Something unspoken passed between them.
For the first time in years—
Genevieve’s heart did something unfamiliar.
It reacted.
EPISODE 3 — The Thing About Scorpios
Genevieve did not fall in love.
She analyzed. She evaluated. She calculated.
Feelings were liabilities.
Yet on the fourth night of sitting beside Tania, she found herself waiting for the bus door to open.
Waiting for that smile.
It annoyed her.
Tania
“You look disappointed."
Tania said when she boarded slightly late.
Genevieve
“You’re very observant.”
Tania
“I’ve had practice.”
There was something in her tone. Old. Layered.
Genevieve
“How old are you?”
Genevieve asked suddenly.
Tania blinked.
Tania
“How old do I look?”
Tania
“That’s flattering.”
It wasn’t what she asked.
The bus lights flickered briefly.
For one split second—
Tania’s reflection didn’t appear clearly in the window.
Genevieve stiffened.
Then it returned.
She stared.
Logic said she imagined it.
Instinct said she didn’t.
Genevieve
“You don’t know the half of it.”
Silence settled between them.
Comfortable.
Heavy.
When Genevieve stood to leave at her stop, Tania spoke quietly.
Tania
“Will I see you tomorrow?”
Genevieve hesitated.
She didn’t believe in destiny.
She believed in choice.
And that was when everything truly began.
