WHISPERS OF THE WIND

CHAPTER ONE: PROLOGUE

High in the mountains, far away from the noise and chaos of the city, stood an old, abandoned building. Weathered by the times, it blended so well with its surroundings that most passersby wouldn’t give it a second glance—if they even noticed it at all. This unsuspecting structure housed a family of three. In stark contrast to its weathered, forgotten exterior, the inside pulsed with sleek modern technology and silent systems that ran beneath the surface like a hidden heartbeat.

The air inside was calm but charged, as if the walls were powered with electricity and voices keeping secrets dwelled in them. It was clear this family didn’t just live here, they were hiding something... or someone.

Not far from the structure, a girl of about twelve dangled effortlessly from a sturdy tree branch, her legs swung lazily as if she hadn’t a care in the world, yet her eyes were sharp, calculating and scanned the horizon with a wariness for far beyond her years.

She wasn’t just playing. She was watching, waiting. And whatever she was waiting for… it was getting closer.

“Wolfie,” a soft, babyish voice called out.

A little boy of about four lounged under the tree, his starry eyes locked onto the girl with quiet adoration. She said nothing at first, but her gaze softened when it met his.

“Mama’s expecting guests. We can’t be seen,” she whispered.

He didn’t respond. His glossy eyes shimmered as he fought back tears, his lips curling into the most exaggerated pout he could manage.

“You know that doesn’t work on me,” she muttered, quickly turning her face away.

Still, he whimpered..so low and pitiful, he sounded like an injured cub.

“You’re already a manipulative bastard at this age,” she hissed under her breath, scooping him up in one swift motion. “This is going to be quick... hopefully.”

Getting closer to the place they call home, the little girl could feel a shift in the air, no..it didn't smell like danger,it screamed death. It was sickening as one could almost feel it lodged in their throats. As clueless as the little boy was he could also sense that there was a shift . One thing about staying in the mountains all your life; you become familiar with the terrain, every route becomes etched into your memory, you not only reside in the wild, you become the wild, you learn the ways of survival and adaptability, your senses become honed, you could hear the stampedes of elephants from a hundred miles away...

Their home upon arrival was surrounded with sleek vehicles and the little girl had an understanding that they belonged to the people her mentor worked for. The very same organization they've been kept a secret from, sometimes she wondered if the organization was her mentor's home, why couldn't it be their home too?why did they have to be hidden?

“I just want you both to have a normal life”, her mentor had said.

Though she had lots of questions, she was only a child and the world was a vast place and she had all the time in the world-or so she thought.

They made their way into the house without being seen and surprisingly the little boy was sensible enough to at least not get in her way, a regular four year old would be playing with toys, scrambling words up and being an utmost nuisance but the same couldn't be said for the manipulative bastard Wolfie held. Born with a high IQ he already understood what a seven year old would struggle to understand, his mind was a weapon…

Knowing the control room would definitely be the meeting room they quietly slipped into the corner room, she had accidentally discovered this place while exploring the house, it was different from the modern vibe the house gave, covered in dust and wooden furniture she didn't know if her mentor knew of it's existence but she said nothing. The heavy stench of blood assaulted their noses as soon as they entered the room, setting him on a chair she signaled him to stay quiet as she took careful steps towards the adjoining door, taking a guess that if everyone in the organization was as sensitive as her mentor it would take a miracle not to get caught. cleaning the peep hole to have a better view she was stunned by the scene in front of her, her mentor was barely recognizable, her hair was a mess, it looked like it had endured series of harsh pullings, her hands were twisted in weird angles signifying broken bones, her face was swollen showing evidence of multiple blows but seemingly she wasn't the only casualty, there were litters of dead bodies all around, in her prime she was the trump card if the organization without underhand methods it would be impossible to take her out more so eliminate her, that's a known fact, a man walked out from the shadows he had the aura of death surrounding him, he had on a ghostface mask making it hard to decipher his facial expression at that moment. "All you needed to do was to be a loyal dog and live out your days in peace Aliana, yet you decided to bite the hand that fed you, now you shall be erased, you never existed", he spat out in a sardonic voice," oh I wonder..."He looked to be lost in thoughts." I thought for old times' sake I could give you a quick death, but your arrogance tsk... even at the point of death you refuse to lower your head,I wonder what your expression would be like once I dig out your heart. " One could hear the sickening pleasure in his voice as he spoke they could almost picture a sadistic smirk on his face... Every voice in her head told her to look away but her body was frozen, she watched quietly as her mentor's heart was dug out by the very same people she gave her life for time and time again. she heard her agonizing screams with her bated breath, she couldn't control the tears that streamed down her face she didn't even know when the little boy made his way towards her and held her hand although he didn't see what happened he already had an idea on what was happening..

After digging out her heart and gently placing it in a box he left out an order for the rest"clean up", as he made his way down he suddenly glanced at the wall a little too long then he left.. Coincidentally, the wall housed the secret room Wolfie and the little boy hid.. If he noticed them, he didn't say…
