Blood Ties :When the Trust Breaks

episode 1:Oath Beneath the Plum Blossoms

The winter wind howled through the mountains of the Liang Province, carrying with it the scent of snow and distant war.

Within the walls of the Yun Estate, lanterns flickered against the ancient stone, casting long shadows that seemed to move like restless spirits. Servants hurried through the courtyards in silence. No one dared to speak loudly tonight.

Because tonight, General Yun’s sons were to swear their blood oath.

Yun Jian was the elder—calm, disciplined, his swordsmanship already whispered about in military camps despite his young age. His movements were precise, his eyes sharp like the blade at his waist. He carried responsibility the way others carried fear.

Beside him stood Yun Kaito, two years younger, yet far more unpredictable. Where Jian was ice, Kaito was flame. His grin was easy, his laughter loud, but beneath it lived ambition that burned too bright to ignore.

Before them stood their father, General Yun Liang, a legend of the Northern Armies. His armor bore scratches from a hundred battles. His gaze carried both pride and warning.

“The empire fractures,” the General said, voice heavy as iron. “Rebels rise in the west. The Crown Prince grows suspicious of loyal families. In times like these, blood must protect blood.”

A servant stepped forward with a silver dagger and a porcelain bowl.

The plum trees in the courtyard were blooming despite the cold, their pale blossoms falling like silent witnesses.

Yun Jian knelt first. Without hesitation, he took the dagger and sliced his palm. Blood welled instantly, dark and steady. He did not flinch.

“For the honor of the Yun clan,” he said.

Yun Kaito followed, cutting his own hand. His smile did not fade, but his eyes held something unreadable.

“For power and survival,” he added softly.

Their blood dripped into the same bowl.

General Yun nodded once. “From this day forward, you stand together. Betrayal between brothers will not only destroy you—it will destroy this family.”

The wind rose sharply, scattering plum petals across the courtyard.

For a brief moment, Jian felt unease.

Kaito’s hand lingered over the bowl a second too long.

But then it was gone.

The brothers stood side by side as soldiers cheered, as lanterns burned brighter, as wine was poured in celebration.

No one saw the messenger riding hard toward the estate gates.

No one heard the whispered order given in the dark corridor behind the ancestral hall.

And no one noticed that the seal on the General’s military command had already been forged.

By dawn, the Yun Estate would no longer belong to the Yun clan.

And the oath sworn beneath plum blossoms would be the very thing that shattered.

Blood Ties: When Trust Breaks

Chapter Two — Night of Falling Blades

The attack began before the rooster’s first cry.

Yun Jian woke to the smell of smoke.

Not the comforting scent of hearth fire—but thick, choking, and wrong.

He reached for his sword before he fully opened his eyes. Years of training left no space for confusion. Outside his chamber, steel clashed against steel. A scream cut through the corridor—then abruptly ended.

“Assassins!” someone shouted.

Jian pushed open the doors and stepped into chaos.

The Yun Estate was burning.

Flames devoured wooden beams, turning carved dragons into collapsing shadows. Soldiers in black armor stormed the courtyard, their movements precise and coordinated. This was no bandit raid. This was military execution.

Jian cut down the first attacker who rushed him. His blade moved cleanly, without wasted motion. Blood sprayed across the stone tiles, mixing with fallen plum blossoms now trampled into the ground.

“Protect the General!” a loyal guard yelled.

But it was too late.

At the center of the courtyard, General Yun Liang stood surrounded.

Arrows pinned his armor to the earth.

He was still standing.

Even with blood soaking through iron plates, he did not kneel.

Jian’s chest tightened. “Father!”

He lunged forward, slicing through two soldiers blocking his path. Sparks flew as blades met. His arms burned from impact, but he did not slow.

Then he saw something that made his steps falter.

At the edge of the courtyard stood Yun Kaito.

Unharmed.

Untouched.

And beside him—an Imperial Commander wearing the sigil of the Crown Prince.

The commander raised a scroll.

“By decree of His Highness, the Yun family is charged with treason. Conspiracy against the throne. Execution is authorized.”

Jian’s mind went cold.

Treason?

Impossible.

Their family had defended the empire for generations.

He looked at Kaito.

Their eyes met across the burning courtyard.

For a moment, Jian searched for denial. For anger. For shock.

Instead, he found calm.

Kaito stepped forward slowly, his sword drawn—but not against the invaders.

Against Jian.

“I told you,” Kaito said quietly, almost gently, “blood protects blood.”

Confusion shattered into horror.

“You forged evidence?” Jian demanded.

Kaito’s expression hardened. “I secured survival.”

Behind them, General Yun finally fell to one knee.

“Run… Jian…” his father rasped.

But escape was no longer an option.

Imperial archers lined the rooftops.

Flames boxed them in.

Jian parried Kaito’s first strike on instinct. The impact rang through his bones.

“You would destroy our name for ambition?” Jian growled.

“Our name was already marked for death,” Kaito replied, pressing harder. “I chose to stand with the future Emperor.”

Steel screeched.

For the first time in their lives, the brothers fought without restraint.

Every move they knew about each other became a weapon.

Jian anticipated Kaito’s footwork.

Kaito predicted Jian’s defense.

Around them, the Yun Estate crumbled.

Finally, an explosion from the collapsing west wing separated them. Smoke engulfed the courtyard, forcing soldiers to retreat temporarily.

Through the haze, Kaito’s voice echoed:

“Live if you can, brother.”

When the smoke cleared—

Jian was gone.

By sunrise, the Yun clan was declared extinct.

But somewhere beyond the northern forest, a wounded swordsman staggered into exile.

And in the capital city, Yun Kaito knelt before the Crown Prince, his loyalty sealed in blood.

Trust had broken.

War between brothers had only just begun.

Here is Chapter Three (around 500 words) 🔥⚔️

Blood Ties: When Trust Breaks

Chapter Three — Exile Beneath the Ashen Sky

Snow swallowed the northern wilderness.

For three days, Yun Jian walked without stopping.

Blood had dried stiff against his sleeve. His shoulder burned where an arrow had grazed him. Each breath felt like inhaling knives, yet he did not allow himself to fall.

If he fell, he would die.

If he died, the Yun name would vanish completely.

The forest stretched endlessly—black trees clawing at a gray sky. By the fourth night, exhaustion finally betrayed him. His vision blurred. His knees buckled.

He collapsed into the snow.

Darkness followed.

When Jian opened his eyes again, he was no longer in the forest.

A wooden ceiling loomed above him. The faint scent of herbs filled the air.

“You’re awake.”

The voice was old but steady.

Jian tried to sit up, but pain shot through his side.

A man stood near the doorway—tall despite his age, dressed in plain gray robes. His hair was tied loosely, streaked with silver. A sword rested against the wall behind him.

Not decorative.

Used.

“You were fortunate,” the old man said. “Another hour in that snow, and even your stubbornness would not have saved you.”

Jian’s voice was rough. “Why help me?”

The man studied him carefully.

“Because you hold your sword hand even while unconscious.”

Jian glanced down. His fingers were indeed curled as if gripping a hilt.

The old man continued, “And because imperial soldiers searched the forest yesterday. They said the Yun clan was executed for treason.”

Silence thickened.

Jian’s jaw tightened. “We were loyal.”

“Loyalty,” the man replied calmly, “is often the first sacrifice in politics.”

Jian forced himself upright despite the pain. “I must return.”

“To die?” the old man asked sharply. “The capital is celebrating your family’s fall. The Crown Prince gains power by removing heroes who might oppose him.”

Jian’s breath stilled.

“And my brother?” he asked quietly.

The old man’s gaze sharpened. “Yun Kaito now serves as commander under the Crown Prince. They say he exposed your father’s treason himself.”

The words felt heavier than any wound.

Jian closed his eyes briefly.

So it was true.

Kaito had not been forced.

He had chosen.

Something inside Jian shifted—not breaking, but hardening.

“I need strength,” Jian said at last. “Enough to cut through the capital itself.”

The old man gave a faint, humorless smile.

“Strength alone will not win against the throne. You need patience. Discipline. And a blade no one expects.”

He walked to the wall and lifted the sword resting there. The scabbard was worn, but the steel gleamed like cold water.

“I was once called Shen Wu,” he said quietly. “Before the empire erased my name.”

Jian looked up sharply.

A fallen general.

Another man betrayed by the court.

“If you seek revenge,” Shen Wu continued, placing the sword before him, “then you must survive long enough to understand your enemy.”

Outside, wind rattled the shutters.

Jian reached for the sword.

The metal felt heavier than his own—but steadier.

“I will not die in the snow,” he said softly.

In the distant capital, Yun Kaito stood at the palace balcony, watching fireworks burst over the city in celebration.

He felt no joy.

Only the faint, persistent sense that somewhere in the vast northern wilderness—

His brother was still alive.

And when Yun Jian returned…

The empire itself would tremble.
