His Prisoner, His Weakness
Chapter 1
It's been five years since didi left us all.
Five years and yet Banaras still remembers her better than people do.
I come here every year, without fail, because this was her favorite place. She said the city didn't just exist-it endured. Just like her. Just like the memories she left behind.
Banaras greets me the same way each time-slow, ancient, unapologetic. The Ganga flows like time itself, carrying prayers, ashes, secrets, and promises in her depths. The ghats wake before the sun, wrapped in a pale mist, priests chanting mantras that echo off centuries-old stone steps. Bells ring somewhere in the distance, soft but insistent, as if reminding the city to breathe.
Here, life and death sit side by side without fear.
People say Banaras gives you peace. I think it gives you truth-raw and unavoidable.
Walk along the ghat where didi used to sit for hours, legs pulled dose, dupatta slipping from her shoulder as she watched the river. She never spoke much here. She didn't need to. Banaras understood her silence.
Most people say I look like her.
I see it every time I catch my reflection in the glass of a shop window or the still water near the steps. The same almond-shaped eyes. The same sharp nose softened by gentler lines. The same posture-straight, composed, as if taught by someone who believed standing tall was a form of survival.
But where didi carried herself like a shield, I wear myself like an open wound.
I'm twenty now. College student. Ordinary, by most standards. I dress simply-soft cotton kurtas in muted colors, hair usually left loose, falling down my back like I never quite learned how to tame it. My skin is warm-toned, kissed by the sun, and my expressions..... well, I've been told I feel too much.
I smile easily. I hurt quietly.
Kyra says that's my problem.
She's my twin Kyra Arora, but if I'm the echo of didi's compassion, Kyra is her fire. People notice her first-her confidence, her sharp tongue, the way she owns every room she walks into. Me? I blend. I listen. I absorb.
I sit on the stone steps, pulling my shawl tighter as the early morning breeze brushes past. Somewhere nearby, a woman lights a diya and sets it afloat on the river. The flame trembles, then steadies, glowing against the dark water.
Didi loved that moment the instant something fragile chose to survive.
"She's strong," people used to say about her.
They never said she was tired.
I close my eyes and let the sounds of the city wrap around me the chants, the river, the quiet murmur of faith. For a moment, it feels like she might sit beside me again, nudging my shoulder, telling me to stop overthinking everything.
But Banaras doesn't give you illusions.
And as I open my eyes, staring at the river that keeps moving no matter how much it carries, I realize something hasn't changed in five years-
I'm still waiting for answers she never left behind.
And Banaras, as always, is watching.

Traits: Calm, calculating, morally grey, disciplined
Strengths: Strategic thinking, emotional restraint, crisis control, psychological dominance
Flaws: Detached, manipulative when necessary, struggles with vulnerability

She calculates in private.
Raghav Aarish Raizada ( 41)
Position: Overseer of International Affairs
Traits: Charismatic, disciplined, observant, quietly dominant
Strengths: Global connections, negotiation under pressure, crisis diplomacy

He chose responsibility over personal happiness long ago.
And he has never looked back.
