Everytime Calix laughs, Adrian forgets to look away.

Adrian pauses. His thumb hovers over the keyboard longer than necessary.

The chat seems to slow down

Because Adrian noticed Calix zoning out during exams

He could say yes
He could just laugh it off
But instead, he locks his phone at 2:17AM

The next day, Calix does not look at Adrian
Adrian pretends not to notice, but he notice everything
When Calix drops his pen
When he laughs too loudly at Marco’s joke
When he purposely turns his chair slightly away
All of it was noticed by Adrian

There is a difference between distance and space
Distance is physical, space is emotional
Adrian feels both
The classroom feels smaller that morning

This time he doesn’t look away.

Their eyes met but Calix looked away first
That afternoon, something changes

But he doesn’t look at Adrian after
He doesn’t check if Adrian heard
He doesn’t care if Adrian reacts
And that bothers Adrian more than jealousy ever could
Because jealousy means you still matter
