The Night the Spark Died
Ten Years Ago
The smell of gasoline and expensive cologne would forever be the scent of Valerie’s nightmares.
She was huddled in the crawlspace under the floorboards, her hand clamped so tightly over three-year-old Leo’s mouth that she feared she’d bruise him. But he had to be silent. If he cried, they were both dead. Through the thin cracks in the wood, she watched the polished black shoes of the man she once thought as family—the man who had become her captor.
Don't look back please run as fast as you can, save Leo don't worry about me
The sound of the gunshot that killed her love, her husband, Leo’s father didn't sound like it did in the movies. It was a dull, final thud that shattered Valerie’s soul into a million jagged pieces.
Her world stopped there, but she couldn't stop . She kept running, she has to save the only family she had now, her son
"Find her," the man’s voice drifted down, cold and bored, as if he hadn't just erased her world. "She’s carrying my heir. I want my son, and I want her back in her cage."
As the house began to burn, Valerie didn't cry. She waited until the boots retreated, then she crawled out through the smoke, clutching Leo to her chest. She looked at the flames devouring her old life and felt a new, terrifying heat rising in her own blood.
I will coming back, she promised the ashes. And next time, I’ll be the one holding the match.You have to pay with your life that time
