ONE MORE ENCORE

One Step Too Close

One More

Encore

-

"They say meeting your idol feels like a dream"

Shaking hands. And a shy laugh from Yeonjun as he thanked you for supporting him.

You never imagined the silence

The hallway behind the stage was too quiet, the kind of quiet that presses against your ears and skin until your own heartbeat sounds loud.

The staff member who led you there disappeared without a word, leaving you alone in front of a door with (your name) written across it.

Inside, the lights were dim

He was sitting in front of the mirror

Waiting patiently

When he looked up, his gaze didn’t feel like it belonged to someone on stage.

It wasn’t playful nor bright.

It was searching something

"So you came" he said softly, as if he known you would.

As if he’d been expecting you

And for a moment, you wondered..

Had you chosen to be here?

Or had something chosen you?

Because when you finally turned to leave,

the hallway behind you wasn’t the same.

And the mirror..

It didn’t reflect exactly what it should.

And when you finally step back,

telling yourself it’s just nerves, just imagination

He reaches for your hand

His fingers are warm. Real

But the mirror behind him shows something different.

His reflection isn’t holding yours

It’s holding on tighter.

You try to pull away

His grip doesn’t hurt

It’s gentle

Almost protective

Don’t look at it, Yeonjun murmurs,

his thumb brushing slowly over your knuckles. His voice is soft, steady…

the same voice you’ve heard in interviews, in songs, in late-night livestreams.

Comforting

Familiar

But you already looked

And now you can’t unsee it.

In the mirror, the version of him standing behind you tilts his head in a way the real Yeonjun doesn’t.

The smile stretches just a little too wide, eyes dark and knowing

The lights flicker

Once

Twice

Your heartbeat echoes in your ears

It’s just a reflection,” you whisper,

though you’re not sure who you’re trying to convince

Yeonjun’s fingers tighten just slightly

"You trust me, don’t you?” he asks quietly.

The question feels heavier than it should

Of course you trust him.

You’ve admired him for years. Watched every performance.

Every laugh. Every soft moment caught on

camera

But the person holding your hand right now feels… deeper than that. Closer. Like he’s looking at parts of you no one else sees

Behind him, in the mirror, the other version steps closer to your reflection

You freeze

The real Yeonjun hasn’t moved

But in the glass, his reflection lifts its hand and gently brushes your mirrored cheek

Your breath catches

The touch feels real

A faint chill trails along your skin

"You feel that?” he whispers

You don’t know which one spoke

"You waited for me,” Yeonjun says again, softer now. Not accusing. Not angry

Certain

As if this moment was inevitable

As if it had been written long before you ever won that backstage pass

You swallow. “This isn’t funny"

"I’m not joking.”

His gaze never leaves yours

In the mirror, your reflection slowly lifts its hand mirroring the other him. Their fingers almost touch through the glass

You try to pull your hand free again

This time, he doesn’t let go

Not forcefully.

But firmly.

"Don’t be scared,” he murmurs. “I won’t hurt you.”

The words should comfort you

Instead, they settle in your chest like a promise you’re not sure you agreed to

The mirror ripples

Just slightly.

Like water disturbed by a single drop

Your reflection smiles

You didn’t tell it to.

Your lips tremble, but the girl in the mirror looks calm. Almost relieved.

And then

The reflection of Yeonjun leans forward and whispers something into her ear

You can’t hear it.

But she nods

The real Yeonjun steps closer to you, closing the distance between your bodies. His forehead nearly touches yours now. His voice drops to barely a breath.

"Stay,” he says

Not a request

Not quite a command.

Just one word

And suddenly, leaving feels impossible

Because somewhere between the stage lights and this dark dressing room

You stopped being sure which side of the mirror you belong to.
