Ashes of the Moon

Chapter One : Damien's Vow to Destroy Witches

The Night was a cathedral of silence, its arches carved from skeletal trees and its alter lit by the pale, merciless moon. Beneath that silver gaze stood Damien Veynar, a figure carved from shadow and steel. His cloak whispered against the frost - bitten earth, his breath a ghost in the last heartbeat of a dying star.

The witch who had burned there was gone - has screams swallowed by the night, her ashes scattered into the soil. Yet Damien did not look away. He never looked away. Each pyre was a reminder, each flame a vow renewed.

"Witches," he murmured, his voice low, jagged, and cold. " You are the rot beneath the skin of this world. And I will crave you out."

His words were not mere hatred ; they were ritual. He spoke them nightly, binding himself tighter to the oath that had defined his existence. His blade, strapped to his hip, gleamed faintly in the moonlight. Forged in blood, tempered in curses, it was a hunter's weapon - designed to sever the bond between flesh and magic. Damien had sworn upon it, sworn upon the ashes of his family, that no witch would escape his wrath.

The memory of that night - the sky his vow was born - was etched into him like scars. His mother's body twisted by hexes, his father's throat cut by a spell that shimmered like glass. He had been a boy then, but grief had aged him into something else. Something colder. Something merciless.

Now, he was obsession made flesh.

The surrounding forest stirred. Wolves howled in the distance, their voices carrying like dirges. Vampires whispered in the city beyond, their hunger masked by civility. Humans slept uneasily, knowing predators walked among them. And witches - those cursed architects of chaos - hid in plain sight, weaving spells beneath the veil of normalcy.

Damien's jaw tightened. He despised them all. Yet Beneath the steel of his resolve, a softer shadow stirred. He buried it, cursed it, but it lingered like a ghost. A longing. A hunger. Not for blood, but for something he could not name.

He closed his eyes, and in the darkness behind his lids, he saw her - the phantom of a woman he had never met. Pale skin, eyes like violet fire, lips curved in defiance. A witch. Always a witch. His mind conjured her as if fate itself had etched her into his soul.

Damien's breath caught, and he cursed himself for the weakness. Desire was poison. Desire was betrayal. Yet the image lingered, haunting him with forbidden beauty.

He opened his eyes, the phantom fading. His vow returned, sharp as a blade pressed to the throat.

"I will haunt you," he whispered to the night." I will burn your conveys, shatter your bones, silence your whisper. Until the last witch falls, I will not rest."

The words rang through the forest, carried by the wind like curses.

And yet, even as he spoke them, a tremor of doubt coiled in his chest. If she existed - the phantom woman with violet eyes - could he truly destroy her? Or would his obsession twist into something darker, something more dangerous than hatred?

The bells of midnight tolled in the distance, heavy with omen. Damien lifted his gaze to the moon. It hung above him like a silver blade, sharp and merciless.

"Ashes of The Moon," he whispered, naming the vow that bound him. "Ashes of the moon shall be the ashes of witches."

The vow was craved into him, etched deeper than flesh, deeper than bone. It was his identity, his obsession, his curse.

And somewhere, hidden in the labyrinth of the city, Selene Dusk bane stirred. Her violet eyes opened, her lips curve in a smile that was both defiance and destiny. She did not yet know his name, nor he hers. But the threads of fate had already begun to weave their destiny.

Damien Veynar, the hunter obsessed with destruction.

Selene Duskbane, the witch destined to his forbidden desire.

Their story had begun.
