Valentine's Day

Emma and Liam went on a date

It was a quiet Valentine’s Day morning in a small town covered with light snow. The streets were decorated with red hearts and flowers. People walked around holding gifts and chocolates for their loved ones.

Liam sat alone on a bench in the town park. In his hand was a small red box. Inside it was a simple silver necklace. He looked at it again and again, feeling nervous.

The necklace was not for just anyone. It was for Emma.

Emma had been Liam’s best friend since childhood. They studied together, walked home from school together, and shared many happy memories. But lately things had changed. Emma had moved to another part of town, and they didn’t meet as often as before.

Still, Liam never stopped thinking about her.

He looked at the park gate, hoping she would come.

A few minutes later, someone walked into the park wearing a blue coat and a white scarf. Liam recognized her immediately.

“Emma!” he called.

Emma turned around in surprise. “Liam? What are you doing here?”

“I was… just sitting,” he said, smiling nervously.

Emma laughed softly and sat beside him. For a moment, both of them were quiet. The cold wind moved the tree branches, and snowflakes slowly fell around them.

“So… how have you been?” Emma asked.

“Good,” Liam replied. “But the town feels different without you.”

Emma looked at him and smiled. “I missed this place too.”

They talked for a while about school, friends, and old memories. Soon it felt like nothing had changed between them.

Liam took a deep breath. His heart was beating fast.

“I actually wanted to give you something,” he said.

He handed her the small red box.

Emma opened it carefully. Inside was the silver necklace with a tiny heart.

Her eyes widened. “Liam… it’s beautiful.”

“I saw it in a shop yesterday,” he explained. “It reminded me of you.”

Emma looked at the necklace again, then back at him.

“You didn’t have to do this,” she said softly.

“I know,” Liam said. “But I wanted to.”

For a moment, Emma didn’t say anything. Then she smiled and took something out of her pocket.

“I have something for you too,” she said.

She gave him a small envelope. Inside was a photo of the two of them from years ago at the same park, laughing together.

“I kept this with me when I moved,” Emma said. “Because our friendship means a lot to me.”

Liam felt warm inside despite the cold weather.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Liam,” Emma said.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Emma,” he replied.

The two friends sat together on the bench, watching the snow fall gently. Around them, the park was full of love and happiness.

And in that quiet moment, Liam realized that sometimes the best Valentine’s gift isn’t chocolates or flowers.

Sometimes, it’s simply being with someone who truly cares about you.
