The 42nd floor is not a place where people smile. Everything is glass, steel, and engineered silence — the expensive kind. Employees rehearse sentences before speaking. Eye contact with the director is an unspoken career risk.
Nobody brings personal items to this floor.

Eli looks around with calm, open curiosity. Spots Noah walking toward him. Smiles like he's meeting a coworker at a normal job and not standing in the most feared corridor in the building.
Eli (MC)
Good morning! I'm Eli — new PR hire. Is there a window nearby? He needs light.
Noha ( ML's Right hand)

Eli (MC)
Gerald. He was on sale. I felt bad leaving him.

A pause. Eli absorbs this quietly.

*(softly)* That sounds lonely. For him.
Noah opens his mouth. Closes it. Walks away faster than necessary.
Ryan (Eli's work friend)
*(appearing from nowhere, whispering)* What did you SAY to him?
Eli (MC)
I said Director Kane sounds lonely.
Ryan (Eli's work friend)
You've been here for only twelve minutes.

I've been here two years, and I've never said anything that made Noah walk fast. He doesn't walk fast. HE DOESN'T WALK FAST, ELI —
[ Main Corridor — 2:07 PM ]
The afternoon briefing just ended. Four people in the hallway. Normal sounds — keyboards, a distant printer, muffled calls.
And then the air changes.
Kane steps into the corridor.
Ryan takes a half step back and finds the floor extremely interesting. Two interns forget how to exist.
Kane walks like the building was designed around him. Tall. Black suit. Eyes that are already three moves ahead of the room.
And looks directly at him.
Not a challenge. Not nerves. Just — open, quiet curiosity. Like Kane is simply a person he hasn't met yet.

You're the new PR hire.
Eli (MC)
Eli. Yes — today's my first day.
