Empress Survival Strategy
Chapter 1 - The Frosted Farewell
In the eastern continent lies the prosperous empire of El monte.
It's an empire known for it's vast resources, diverse economy and great infrastructure.
It's also been ruled over by the Elmonte royal family for almost 7 generations.
And with every ruler, Elmonte experienced no change.
It's military strength is as strong as it's emperor.
Or at least that's what I've observed.
And how would I know any of this?
That's because I Danica Elmonte became the empress of the empire by marrying it's current ruler the emperor.
And here is the story on how I survived this dilemma.
The year 658 the Elmonte empire lost it's emperor and his son the crown prince then ascended the throne.
However, though he ascended the thorn he needed to secure his position along with his lineage.
And so the royal court of Elmonte suggested that his majesty marry a princess rather than a noble lady due to rank and responsibilities.
And so they decided on a princess from a neighboring country.
And that lucky princess would be me, Princess Danica Petrova of Valdania Kingdom.
Valdania is a small nation located in the northern continent.
It experiences all four seasons but most of the time it's cold as if it's winter all year long.
The story begins at the Valdanian royal palace.
The cold wind of Valdania howled through the chambers as Princess Danica Elena Petrova stood by the tall, frost-covered window, her emerald eyes reflecting the vast, frozen landscape. It was a land that had been both her cradle and her prison, a place where love was measured in duty, and where every choice was made for the greater good of her family, her kingdom, and especially for her twin brother, Dmitri Alexei Petrova.
From the moment they were born, their fates had been decided. Dmitri, the heir to the throne. Danica, the shield. She was not meant to rule. She was meant to protect him — by any means necessary.
Danica Elena Petrova
I never asked for this.
She had whispered to herself countless times over the years, her heart aching with the weight of her role. But duty had no room for longing.
Now, as she stood on the threshold of a new life in the Elmonte Empire, she found herself saying goodbye to the only person she had ever loved with no restraint. Her twin brother, Dmitri, stood in the doorway of her chamber, his broad shoulders tense, his gaze heavy with unsaid words. He, too, had been raised under the same expectations.
Dmitri Alexei Petrova
Dani!
Dmitri’s voice was low, but it trembled.
Dmitri Alexei Petrova
I wish it were me going in your place.
She turned, her expression cool, but inside, her heart fractured. She had always known her sacrifice would come to this — that she would be sent away to marry a foreign emperor to avoid the civil war that threatened their kingdom. Yet, hearing the words spoken aloud, the reality of it settled like a cold stone in her chest.
Danica Elena Petrova
No, Dmi.
She replied softly, her voice steady.
Danica Elena Petrova
It has always been me. You are meant for greater things.
Danica Elena Petrova
The throne will be yours one day. I will ensure that.

Chapter 2 - The Frosted Farewell 2
He stepped forward, his brow furrowing as he reached out, hesitating before placing a hand on her shoulder. His touch was warm, a stark contrast to the icy wind swirling outside the window.
Dmitri Alexei Petrova
I don't want you to go.
Dmitri whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
Dmitri Alexei Petrova
I’m sorry… I should have found another way.
Danica’s gaze softened for the briefest moment. The love she felt for him was undeniable, but so was the duty that bound her. She had to be the one to carry this burden.
Danica Elena Petrova
You never had a choice, Dmi.
She murmured, her words low but filled with a quiet conviction.
Danica Elena Petrova
Neither of us did.
A silence hung between them, heavy with the weight of their shared sorrow. Danica stepped away from the window, her breath fogging the cold glass as she stared out over the snow-covered hills.
Danica Elena Petrova
I'll survive.
She said, almost to herself.
Danica Elena Petrova
I will make sure Valdania survives.
Dmitri’s hand fell from her shoulder as he turned to leave, his face set with an expression of deep regret.
Dmitri Alexei Petrova
I don’t deserve you, Dani.
Danica Elena Petrova
You do.
She answered quietly, though her heart ached to say it.
Danica Elena Petrova
You deserve everything, Dmitri. Never doubt that.
He paused at the door, his back to her.
Dmitri Alexei Petrova
I will find a way to bring you back. I promise.
Danica didn’t respond. She only nodded, the unspoken promise between them understood. He would fight for her, and she would fight for him — from afar. Their destinies had been sealed, but perhaps, in another life, they could have been more than just siblings bound by the throne.
As the door closed behind him, Danica stood alone in her chamber, staring at the ship waiting to take her to Elmonte. The wind howled again, but this time, it didn’t feel as cold.
The journey to the El Monte Empire was long and treacherous, but Danica did not mind. She had lived her whole life in the shadow of duty, and now she was headed toward the unknown. The Emperor, Regis Emeric Elmonte, awaited her arrival with the weight of an entire empire behind him, yet she felt no excitement — only a deep, unshakable sense of inevitability.
As the ship sailed into the bustling port of Auremburg, Danica gazed at the glittering city on the horizon. The sprawling city, with its towering spires and golden domes, was unlike anything she had seen in Valdania. The warmth of the southern sun contrasted sharply with the harsh, cold winds of the north.
But it was the people that caught her attention — the courtiers, the nobles, the citizens, all moving in perfect synchrony, as if they had long been prepared for her arrival.
Emperor Regis stood at the head of the dock, his golden hair gleaming in the sunlight, his red eyes sharp and commanding. Beside him was a woman with striking amber eyes. Who was the woman standing beside him? The emperor had no other living siblings. The only woman that has the right to stand beside the emperor was his Empress, which Danica came to inherited through marriage.
Danica’s heart sank, but she kept her expression neutral. There was no room for weakness now.

Chapter 3 - The Thorn and the Crown
Two week before the departure.
The great hall of Frostheim, Valdania’s capital, was silent save for the rustling of parchment. Danica sat at the long oak table, her delicate fingers tracing the edges of the treaty documents laid before her. Her emerald eyes flicked over the carefully worded clauses, as if she could see through them to the lives they would shape. She knew the weight of the kingdom’s future rested on these pages.
Her twin brother, Dmitri, stood at the window, his back to her, looking out over the vast winter landscape. He always did this before important decisions — staring out as if seeking answers in the endless expanse of snow and ice.
A soft sigh escaped him, and he turned slowly, his broad frame still and silent.
Dmitri Alexei Petrova
Dani.
Dmitri Alexei Petrova
Do you ever wonder if we could have chosen differently?
Her gaze never left the treaty.
Danica Elena Petrova
I think we all wonder what might have been. But you have a kingdom to rule. And I...
Her voice trailed off, and for a fleeting moment, the bitterness that had taken root in her chest surfaced.
Danica Elena Petrova
I have my duty.
Dmitri stepped forward, his eyes searching her face.
Dmitri Alexei Petrova
That is the problem. Duty. We’ve both been born into it, but you… you bear the weight of it far more than I ever will.
Danica looked up then, meeting his gaze, her eyes not showing the anguish she felt inside. She could not afford to show weakness.
Danica Elena Petrova
Don’t you see, Dmitri?
Danica Elena Petrova
You cannot rule if your subjects are divided. The marriage to Elmonte is the only way to keep the peace. We’ve talked about this. The factions here — the nobles, the military — they would tear us apart. This is the price of peace. This is the price of stability.
His jaw clenched, but he said nothing. He did not need to. They both understood.
Danica Elena Petrova
You should be king.
Danica said softly, almost as if the words were meant for herself more than him.
Danica Elena Petrova
It is what you deserve.
Dmitri’s eyes darkened, but there was no anger in them. Only a deep, quiet sorrow.
Dmitri Alexei Petrova
I am not ready. And you…
He paused, his voice trembling slightly.
Dmitri Alexei Petrova
You are the one who’s always been ready. But you shouldn’t have to bear the burden alone.
Danica rose to her feet and crossed the room to him, placing a hand on his arm. The touch was brief but full of years of unspoken affection.
Danica Elena Petrova
You have no choice either, Dmitri.
Danica Elena Petrova
This is how it has always been.
She turned away, her back to him now, the cold wind from the open window causing the firelight in the hearth to flicker. The smell of pine and wintery air filled the room. A reminder of what she was leaving behind.
Dmitri didn’t speak again, but she could feel his eyes on her, heavy with unvoiced emotions. He knew as well as she did that there was no turning back.
Dmitri Alexei Petrova
I'm sorry, Dani.
