THE LAST STAR BLADE

Chapter 1: The Falling Light

...The sky broke the night it chose him....

...In the quiet fishing town of Luntian, nights were always the same—gentle waves rolling against the shore, palm trees whispering with the wind, and lantern lights flickering in distant homes. Nothing ever changed....

...Until that night....

...Kael Reyes stood alone on the shoreline, barefoot, the cold water brushing against his feet. Sleep wouldn’t come, not when something felt… wrong. The air itself seemed heavier, as if the world were holding its breath....

...Then he saw it....

...A light in the sky....

...At first, he thought it was a shooting star. But it didn’t streak across the darkness. It moved slowly—too slowly. Descending, not falling....

...Watching....

...“…That’s not normal,” Kael murmured....

...The glowing object slipped through the clouds without a sound and disappeared behind the cliffs beyond the village—the very place no one dared to go....

...For a moment, everything returned to normal. The waves resumed their rhythm. The wind stirred the trees again. The illusion of peace settled back into place....

...Then the ground trembled beneath his feet....

...Kael didn’t think....

...He ran....

...The cliffs were forbidden....

...Every child in Luntian grew up hearing the stories—spirits that lured wanderers to their deaths, voices that copied the people you loved, shadows that moved when no one was looking....

...Kael had always dismissed them as superstition....

...But as he climbed the narrow path, sharp rocks biting into his skin, he couldn’t ignore the cold creeping into the air. It wasn’t natural. Not here....

...Each step felt heavier than the last....

...And yet, something pulled him forward....

...Stronger than fear....

...Stronger than reason....

...When he reached the top, he froze....

...A crater lay before him....

...Not massive, but deep enough to scar the earth. The ground around it was blackened, charred as if touched by something hotter than fire itself....

...And at its center—...

...A sword....

...Kael’s breath caught in his throat....

...The blade shimmered faintly, its surface flowing like liquid starlight. Strange markings ran along its length, shifting and changing whenever he tried to focus on them. It didn’t look real....

...It felt… alive....

...“No way…” he whispered....

...Every instinct screamed at him to turn back. To run. To forget he had ever seen this place....

...But something else answered....

...A voice....

...Not heard—but felt, deep within his chest....

...Take it....

...Kael stepped into the crater....

...Heat radiated from the ground, yet it didn’t burn him. The air vibrated with energy, humming softly like a heartbeat....

...His own heartbeat....

...He reached out....

...The moment his fingers touched the hilt—...

...Everything shattered....

...Visions consumed him....

...A sky filled with dying stars....

...Worlds collapsing into endless darkness....

...A war that stretched across the universe....

...And within it—a single blade, cutting through the void....

...This blade....

...Kael screamed as the images tore through his mind....

...Then, silence....

...When he opened his eyes, he wasn’t alone....

...A figure stood at the edge of the crater....

...Tall. Still. Wrapped in shadows that clung to its form like smoke....

...Its eyes glowed faintly—like dying embers in the dark....

...“…So,” it said, its voice rough like cracking stone, “the blade has chosen.”...

...Kael forced himself to stand, gripping the sword tightly....

...“Who are you?” he demanded, his voice shaking despite his effort....

...The figure tilted its head, studying him....

...“A witness,” it replied....

...A pause....

...“And perhaps… your executioner.”...

...The air grew heavy....

...The blade in Kael’s hand pulsed with light....

...And for the first time in his life—...

...Kael felt power....

...End of Chapter 1...

Chapter 2: The First Battle

...The air tightened like a clenched fist....

...Kael could barely breathe....

...The figure at the edge of the crater didn’t move, yet its presence pressed down on him like an invisible weight. Shadows curled around its body, shifting unnaturally, as if alive....

...“Executioner…?” Kael repeated, tightening his grip on the blade. “I don’t even know what’s going on!”...

...The figure took a single step forward....

...The ground cracked beneath it....

...“You don’t need to understand,” it said calmly. “Only to die.”...

...In an instant—it vanished....

...Kael’s eyes widened....

...“Wha—?!”...

...A force slammed into his side before he could react....

...BOOM!...

...He was thrown across the crater, skidding against the scorched ground. Pain exploded through his body, knocking the air from his lungs....

...“Tch—!”...

...He forced himself up, coughing. His vision blurred....

...Fast… too fast....

...The figure reappeared a few meters away, completely unharmed....

...“Pathetic,” it muttered. “So this is the one chosen by the Star Blade?”...

...Kael gritted his teeth....

...“I didn’t ask for this!”...

...The shadowed being tilted its head slightly....

...“No one ever does.”...

...It raised its hand....

...Darkness gathered instantly, condensing into a jagged mass of energy. The air around it warped, as if reality itself rejected its existence....

...Kael felt it—pure danger....

...If that attack hit him…...

...“I’m dead.”...

...The thought came without hesitation....

...“Then move!” he shouted at himself....

...The creature released the attack....

...A wave of darkness tore through the ground toward him, ripping apart stone as it advanced....

...Kael reacted on instinct....

...He raised the sword....

...Light burst from the blade....

...FLASH!...

...The darkness collided with the glow—...

...—and exploded....

...BOOM!!...

...The impact sent shockwaves across the cliffs. Dust and debris filled the air, swallowing everything in gray....

...Kael stood frozen, breathing hard....

...“…I blocked it?”...

...The sword in his hand pulsed again, warmer now—responsive....

...Alive....

...“So it can defend,” the figure said from within the smoke. “Interesting.”...

...Kael turned sharply....

...“Stop attacking me!”...

...The dust parted....

...The figure emerged slowly, untouched....

...“Fight back,” it said. “Or prove that choosing you was a mistake.”...

...Kael’s grip tightened....

...His heart pounded violently in his chest....

...Fight back?...

...Against that?...

...“I don’t even know how to use this thing!”...

...“Then learn.”...

...The figure lunged again....

...Faster than before....

...Kael barely raised the blade in time—...

...CLANG!!...

...Dark claws collided with the glowing sword....

...For a moment, everything froze....

...Kael’s arms trembled under the pressure....

...The force was overwhelming....

...“I… can’t…!”...

...“Yes, you can,” the figure whispered....

...Something changed....

...The blade flared....

...Light surged from its core, spreading along Kael’s arm like fire....

...His fear—...

...shifted....

...Not gone....

...But… controlled....

...Kael’s eyes sharpened....

...“…Fine,” he breathed....

...With a sudden burst of strength, he pushed forward....

...“Then I’ll fight!”...

...He swung the blade....

...A streak of light cut through the air....

...The figure jumped back—but not fast enough....

...A thin line of light carved across its chest....

...Silence....

...The figure looked down....

...For the first time—...

...it had been hit....

...“…So it begins,” it murmured....

...The shadows around it began to grow....

...Thicker....

...Darker....

...More violent....

...Kael steadied himself, raising the blade again....

...The ground beneath them cracked....

...The night itself seemed to bend....

...And deep within the sword—...

...something awakened....

...End of Chapter 2...

Chapter 3: Awakening The shadows changed.

...They no longer drifted like smoke—they surged....

...Violent. Hungry. Alive....

...Kael felt it immediately. The pressure in the air doubled, crushing against his chest, forcing his knees to nearly buckle. The glowing blade in his hand pulsed harder now, as if reacting to the growing darkness....

...The figure stood still at the center of it all, its form barely visible beneath the mass of writhing shadow....

...“…Good,” it said quietly. “You survived the first strike.”...

...Kael tightened his grip....

...“Was that supposed to kill me?!”...

...“Yes.”...

...The answer came without hesitation....

...Kael swallowed hard....

...“Then I won’t hold back either.”...

...The figure raised its hand once more....

...This time, the shadows didn’t gather—they exploded outward....

...WHOOM—!...

...Dark tendrils shot across the ground like living spears, tearing through stone as they rushed toward him from every direction....

...Kael’s eyes widened....

...Too many....

...No escape....

...“Move!” he told himself—but his body hesitated....

...Fear crept in again....

...Fast. Cold. Paralyzing....

...He couldn’t keep up....

...He couldn’t win....

...He was going to die....

...—...

...Then the blade pulsed....

...A sharp surge of energy shot through his arm and into his chest. His heartbeat synchronized with the weapon, each pulse louder than the last....

...Thump....

...Thump....

...Thump....

...The world slowed....

...The rushing shadows… slowed....

...Kael’s breathing steadied....

...Something inside him shifted....

...Not fear....

...Focus....

...“…I see it,” he whispered....

...The paths....

...The openings....

...The flow of the attack....

...Without thinking, Kael moved....

...He stepped forward—not back....

...The first shadow struck—...

...SLASH!...

...Light cut through it instantly....

...The second—...

...SLASH!...

...Gone....

...The third, fourth, fifth—...

...His body moved on its own, faster, sharper, guided by something deeper than instinct....

...Each swing of the blade released arcs of glowing energy, slicing through darkness like it wasn’t even there....

...Within seconds—...

...Silence....

...The shadows were gone....

...Kael stood in the center of the crater, breathing steadily, the blade glowing brighter than before....

...“…What was that?” he muttered....

...The figure watched him closely....

...Then—...

...it laughed....

...A low, broken sound....

...“So the blade awakens,” it said. “You’ve taken your first step.”...

...Kael raised the sword again....

...“What are you?”...

...The figure’s glowing eyes narrowed slightly....

...“I am what comes after,” it replied. “A fragment of the dark that devours stars.”...

...It took a step forward....

...“And you…”...

...Another step....

...“…are the one meant to stop it.”...

...Kael’s grip tightened....

...“Then why try to kill me?!”...

...“Because,” the figure said, its voice lowering, “if you cannot survive me… you will never survive what’s coming.”...

...The ground trembled again....

...But this time—...

...the shadows began to fade....

...The figure’s form flickered, like a flame about to go out....

...“…Our time ends here,” it said....

...Kael’s eyes widened....

...“Wait!”...

...The figure ignored him....

...“Remember this, wielder of the Star Blade…”...

...Its voice echoed, distorting as its body dissolved into darkness....

...“The light you carry…”...

...A pause....

...“…is not pure.”...

...Then—...

...it vanished....

...Silence returned to the cliffs....

...The wind came back....

...The ocean roared below once more....

...As if nothing had happened....

...Kael stood alone, staring at the blade in his hand....

...The glow had softened now—but it was still there....

...Still alive....

...“Not… pure?” he whispered....

...His chest tightened....

...The visions....

...The war....

...The destruction....

...“…What did you choose me for?”...

...The blade pulsed faintly in response....

...But gave no answer....

...Far away—...

...something stirred....

...Deep within the darkness between worlds....

...A pair of ancient eyes slowly opened....

...“…The Star Blade has awakened,” a voice echoed....

...Cold....

...Endless....

...Hungry....

...“Find him.”...

...Kael looked up at the sky....

...The stars above seemed… dimmer....

...And for the first time—...

...he felt it....

...Something out there…...

...was looking back....
