The environment in Saint Ardent Academy was anything but normal. Situated in an isolated valley, the school was famous not for academic excellence but for something much more unusual—it was a haven for people endowed with superpowers. Here, people were grouped based on their special talents, and their status was indicated by badges in different colors: Yellow for those with mild powers and common abilities, Green for soft defense powers, Blue for time powers, Orange for psychic powers, and Red for those with dangerous uncontrolled powers.

Nana fidgeted with the adjustable strap of her backpack as she stood in front of the towering gates. Her heart beat in sync with the unfamiliar whispers of the campus carried by the gentle breeze. It was her first day at Saint Ardent, but she and the school were anything but normal.

Her home teacher, a strict-looking woman with an uncanny ability to see through one’s very soul, had escorted her to the office and introduced her to the principal before leaving. The latter’s smile was friendly but guarded, as if he knew a whole lot more than he let on let on.

As Sam walked into the room, every face turned briefly in her direction. Yet there was one boy who turned her attention. He sprawled across his desk, seemingly unmindful of everything around him. Yet there was something odd about the aura surrounding him—a flicker of power that sent her nervous system into high alert.

She sat down in her own chair, but within moments, she'd attracted a small audience. Her eyes, without any provocation whatsoever, blazed with an intense red light.

Gasps and murmurs echoed throughout the room.

Her voice remained steady, but there was an undeniable hint of authority in it. “I am nana,” she declared, her red eyes dimming slightly. “I have many powers, but this is merely an auto-defense.”

One of them took a step forward, a soft-spoken girl with a gentle aura of green. “I’m Sed,” she said, smiling faintly. “I control nature… fire, ice, trees, even the climate to a certain extent,” she explained.

Another girl, reserved but with an aura of strength, spoke next. “I’m Mint,” she said softly. “My powers allow me to control the mind and communicate with spirits. Patience is my biggest weapon… until it runs out.”

From behind, a bright voice called out. “Han,” said a girl with the most effortless smile. Her eyes sparkled with a hint of naughtiness. “I control time. Everyone adores me, or so I have been told.”

At last, a girl with a sunny disposition came forward. Her enthusiasm was simply unstoppable. “Jane,” she chimed in. “I’m Yellow rank and possess the power to move things without touching them. Pretty cool, huh?”

Sam’s eyes roved over them, and her face remained a mystery. “This is just the start,” she said softly, as if cautioning and promising at the same time.
