Second Time, First Love.

The Last Blow

Pain was the first thing Olivia Harper felt.

It struck without warning, tearing through her abdomen like a blade, sharp and merciless. Her knees buckled as her body collapsed onto the cold wooden floor. Blood soaked through her clothes, spreading beneath her in a dark, sticky pool. Each breath came broken, shallow, as though her lungs had forgotten how to obey.

It hurt.

It hurt so much she could barely think.

“Please…” Her lips trembled as she forced the words out. “Please… believe me.”

Her vision was blurred with tears, but she could still see him clearly.

Nathan Blake.

He stood a short distance away, tall and perfectly composed, as though the chaos unfolding before him had nothing to do with him. His expression was calm—too calm. There was no shock, no panic, no concern. Only distance. Only indifference.

“Olivia, the baby is mine,” she cried desperately, clutching her swelling stomach. “I never betrayed you. I swear I didn’t sleep with anyone else!”

She waited. She waited for him to speak. To stop this. To say even one word in her defense.

But Nathan remained silent. That silence was heavier than any accusation. It pressed down on her chest, crushing what little hope she had left.

A soft, mocking laugh cut through the air.

“Pitiful,” Madeline Carter said, stepping closer. Her heels clicked against the floor, precise and cruel. Beside her, Lily Carter smirked, her eyes gleaming with delight as she watched Olivia falter. “Why must you struggle like this?”

Around them, curious murmurs replaced sympathy. No one stepped forward to help. Victoria Carter, poised in the corner, merely watched with an unreadable expression, as though Olivia’s agony were a performance meant for their entertainment.

Moments earlier, several people had restrained Olivia. Hands forced pills past her lips, and only when the pain started did she realize what they were—abortion pills.

The realization came too late.

Her stomach convulsed violently, agony ripping through her body as she curled inward on instinct, arms wrapping around herself in a futile attempt to protect the life growing inside her.

“I… I did everything right…” she sobbed. “Why… why is this happening to me?”

The answer came swiftly.

A sharp kick slammed into her stomach. The impact stole the air from her lungs. Pain exploded through her body, white and blinding, drowning out her scream. Her vision darkened as the world spun violently, sounds fading into distant echoes.

Laughter rang above her. She felt herself slipping. Cold crept into her limbs as strength drained away. The floor beneath her felt unbearably hard, unbearably cold.

Then—everything went still.

Her body lay motionless. Yet somehow, Olivia Harper felt… light. She hovered above the scene, looking down at herself—bloodied, broken, abandoned. The sight should have terrified her, but instead, an overwhelming numbness settled over her soul.

Memories flooded her mind.

Nathan Blake’s repeated silence. His refusal to defend her. His unwavering attention to the Carters, no matter how cruel they were. Madeline’s sweet smiles hiding venom. Lily’s careful lies. Victoria’s subtle manipulation. The way they had slowly destroyed her life from the shadows.

And the child.

The child she never had the chance to protect.

Tears slid silently down Olivia’s face as darkness crept closer.

“God…” she whispered into the void. “If you give me another chance… I won’t beg for love again. I won’t fall for him again. I won’t die like this.”

The world dissolved completely.

But in the endless darkness, something flickered. A spark.

Olivia Harper’s final thought was not fear. It was a vow.

If she returned, she would take everything back.

Awake Again

Light flooded Olivia Harper’s senses.

Harsh. Blinding.

She gasped sharply, her body jerking upright as though dragged from a stormy sea. Her chest heaved, heart pounding violently, threatening to burst from her ribs. Air rushed into her lungs in uneven, desperate breaths, each one reminding her she was still here.

Still alive.

For a few seconds, she could only sit there, fingers gripping the sheets tightly as if reality itself might slip away if she let go.

Slowly, the room around her came into focus.

Familiar.

Her childhood bedroom.

Warm sunlight filtered through pale curtains that swayed gently in the breeze. Posters lined the walls just as she remembered. Her desk stood neatly by the window, untouched, everything perfectly in place.

Everything was exactly as it had been… two years ago.

Her fingers moved instinctively to her stomach.

Flat.

No pain.

No fear. No loss.

And yet the memory remained, sharp and merciless.

Nathan Blake’s cold indifference.

Her stepsisters’ cruelty hidden behind soft smiles.

Victoria Carter’s quiet, calculated manipulations.

The attack. The blood. The helplessness.

Her chest tightened painfully, the echo of it all still lingering beneath her skin.

She had returned.

Tears gathered in her eyes, but they didn’t fall. They burned instead, heavy with something stronger than fear.

Anger.

Determination.

Never again.

Olivia hugged herself tightly, grounding her trembling body. In her past life, she had been naive—too trusting, too obedient. She had believed Madeline and Lily Carter completely, convinced their kindness was real and their affection genuine.

She had followed every instruction.

Believed every lie.

She had even ruined her own happiness because she thought they truly cared about her.

She had been blind.

A faint, bitter smile touched her lips.

Not this time.

Her eyes hardened as she slowly swung her legs off the bed. The wooden floor beneath her feet felt cool and solid, anchoring her to the present. She stood carefully, letting the reality settle deep within her.

Everything felt sharper now. Clearer.

Like she had finally awakened.

“I won’t beg for love again,” she murmured quietly. “And I won’t trust blindly. Not him. Not them. Not anyone who wants to control me.”

A sudden knock on the door shattered the silence.

Her entire body went still.

Her pulse spiked instantly.

“Olivia? Are you awake?”

The voice came softly from outside—gentle, almost concerned.

Her stomach twisted.

Madeline.

In her past life, she would have opened the door immediately, smiling without hesitation, ready to listen, ready to believe.

Ready to be used.

This time, she didn’t move.

Her fingers slowly curled into a fist as she pressed herself lightly against the wall, every sense alert.

She would not fall for it again.

Not this time.

This time, she would watch. She would listen. She would understand every move they made.

And when the right moment came…

She would act.

The door creaked faintly as a shadow shifted beneath it.

Madeline was still there.

Waiting.

Olivia Harper’s lips curved into a faint, unreadable smile.

So…

It had already begun.

The Blake Mansion

The car slowed as it approached the grand gates of the Blake mansion.

Olivia Harper sat quietly, her gaze fixed ahead, but her mind was far from the present.

This day…

She remembered it clearly.

In her past life, this had been the day everything began to fall apart. Her first dinner with the Blake family—what should have been a simple introduction—had turned into a silent disaster.

She had been nervous. Too nervous.

Every word she spoke had been rushed, every action slightly off. She had tried too hard to please, too eager to fit in, too desperate to be accepted. And in doing so… she had only made herself look small.

Nathan’s mother had smiled politely, but there had been no warmth in it. His father had watched her with sharp, critical eyes. From that very night, she had already lost their approval.

Olivia’s fingers tightened slightly against her dress.

Not this time.

This time, she would not force anything. She would not chase approval or beg to be liked. She would simply… be. Calm. Observant. In control.

The car came to a stop.

Before the driver could even open the door, Madeline Carter had already stepped out.

“I’ll go ahead,” she said lightly, not waiting for a response.

Olivia watched her retreating figure without expression.

Madeline walked in as if she belonged there. As if this was her home.

Just like in the past.

Inside the mansion, Madeline’s voice rang out immediately.

“Catherine!”

Nathan’s mother turned, her face lighting up almost instantly. “Madeline, dear.”

The warmth in her voice was unmistakable.

Madeline rushed forward and embraced her naturally, like it was second nature. They had grown up together, after all. She had always been close to the Blake family—close enough that, in Olivia’s past life, Catherine had preferred her.

Close enough… that she had once wanted Madeline as her daughter-in-law.

Olivia stepped in quietly.

Her heels made soft, controlled sounds against the marble floor as she walked forward, her posture straight, her expression calm.

“Mother,” she called out.

Her tone was polite. Respectful.

But not warm.

Catherine turned toward her, the smile on her lips fading into something more measured. “Olivia. How are you doing?”

“I’m fine, Mother,” Olivia replied.

Nothing more.

No eagerness. No attempt to get closer.

Catherine paused for a brief second, as if slightly caught off guard by the lack of effort. But she quickly masked it.

“Come,” she said. “It’s time for dinner. Where’s Nathan?”

“I’m here, Mother.”

The deep voice came from above.

Olivia’s gaze lifted instinctively.

Nathan Blake was descending the stairs.

Tall. Composed. Effortlessly commanding.

His features were sharp and perfectly sculpted, his jaw defined, his expression calm yet distant. His dark eyes held a quiet intensity, and every step he took carried a natural authority that made it impossible to look away.

Beautiful. Untouchable.

Olivia’s breath caught for just a second.

In her past life, she would have stared, her feelings obvious.

This time… she forced her gaze away.

Nathan reached the bottom of the stairs.

“Mother,” he greeted.

“Brother Nathan!” Madeline called out brightly as she dashed toward him, wrapping herself around his arm without hesitation.

Olivia’s fingers curled slightly at her side.

Nathan didn’t pull away.

“Madeline,” he said calmly. “How are you?”

“I’ve been good,” she replied, smiling as she clung to him.

Then—

Nathan lifted his head.

His eyes met Olivia’s.

For a brief moment, everything stilled.

In her past life, her heart would have raced.

Now… she simply looked at him.

Calm. Indifferent.

Then she looked away.

A faint flicker passed through his eyes.

“Let’s go,” Catherine said. “Your grandfather is waiting.”

She turned and led the way toward the dining hall.

Madeline stayed close to Nathan, still holding onto his arm as they followed behind.

Olivia walked slightly behind them, her steps steady, her expression composed.

The air felt the same.

The people were the same.

But everything had already begun to change.

This time… she would not chase.

She would not compete.

And she would never lose herself again.

As they stepped into the dining hall, a deep, authoritative voice cut through the air.

“So… this is the daughter-in-law you chose?”

Olivia’s steps came to an abrupt halt.

For a brief second, the room felt suffocatingly still.

Slowly, she lifted her head.

And met the sharp, assessing gaze of Nathan’s father.
