ILLUSION

Part 1 - The Girl Who Wasn’t There

Written By Kingson Das

A voice echoed across the infinite void, powerful yet gentle, carrying the weight of eternity itself.

“The destiny has written their story. My eternal stone, Aion, is sent to Earth. It shall awaken its full power only after completing twenty-five years among mortals. Tonight, all my creations gather — angels and demons alike, all who could inherit Aion’s power.”

There was a pause, heavy with expectation, the kind of silence that trembles across the cosmos.

“But remember this — Aion has its own consciousness. It bends for nothing… except love.”

And then, in a flash of blinding light, the voice ceased, leaving the universe suspended in awe.

“But Grandpa, you really believe some random person can tell your future and be right?”

Ethan Walker leaned back, skeptical.

The old man, Walter, smiled faintly.

“You young people don’t believe it,” he said. “But I do. That ‘random’ person told me something about your past… something only I knew.”

Ethan frowned. “What do you mean?”

“You don’t remember it, do you?”

Walter’s voice was calm, but his eyes searched Ethan’s face like they were digging through years of silence.

Ethan shook his head.

“The storm almost took you. You were just a baby… barely breathing. They found you on the beach — hands blue, shivering, crying. No one knew how you got there.”

Ethan stayed quiet, lost in the words. The echo of the storm clung to his thoughts like the smell of rain.

His phone rang.

It snapped him back.

Ethan — now a 24-year-old detective — had only just started living the life he had dreamed of. But he had no idea… that path would drag him into storms far worse than the one he survived.

Ethan’s POV

“Hello, Detective Ethan Walker speaking from the Cheongho Unit.”

My voice was steady.

But the one on the other side—

wasn’t.

A girl.

Terrified.

Her voice trembled.

“H-hello… I… please—”

The call cut.

Silence.

“Hello?”

Nothing.

I immediately called back.

Switched off.

I tried calling Chris.

No answer.

My heart started beating faster. Something felt wrong. Deeply wrong.

So I grabbed my coat and headed out.

The rain outside was relentless.

Just like Grandpa had said.

But duty came first.

Even before the questions about my past that never stopped chasing me.

While driving, something felt… off.

The same roads.

The same buildings.

But quieter.

Too quiet.

Then—

A girl appeared in front of my car.

I slammed the brakes.

The tires screeched.

The car stopped inches away.

But she didn’t move.

Not even a little.

I honked.

Nothing.

Something inside me told me to step out.

I walked toward her.

It was dark. I could only see her outline.

She was drenched in rain.

But she didn’t react.

Didn’t move.

Didn’t even seem aware.

As I got closer—

Her eyes flickered.

Red.

Sharp.

Gone in a second.

My chest tightened.

She was young… beautiful… her features sharp and unreal.

Before I could say anything—

Her lips moved.

“Aion…”

And she collapsed into my arms.

Her body was cold.

Too cold.

Her breathing… uneven.

Without thinking, I carried her into the car.

The hospital was the only place I could go.

I sat in the waiting room.

Still wet.

My hands wouldn’t stay still.

Something wasn’t right.

The doctor came out, looking annoyed.

“You kids these days… reckless. That girl’s heavily drunk. Passed out.”

“Drunk?” I asked.

There was no smell.

Not even a hint.

The doctor hesitated… then walked away.

Avoiding my eyes.

Something wasn’t right.

Morning.

I woke up to hurried footsteps.

My neck ached from the chair.

A nurse from last night was rushing away.

I stopped her.

“The girl from yesterday — where is she?”

She froze.

Her eyes darted toward a room.

“In there,” she whispered.

Like she was scared to say more.

I walked to the door.

My mind replayed everything.

The eyes.

The word.

Aion.

The way people looked at her.

Like she wasn’t normal.

I knocked.

No response.

I stepped inside.

She opened her eyes.

And I froze.

Every question in my head… disappeared.

She was breathtaking.

Not just beautiful.

Something else.

Something I couldn’t explain.

My heartbeat echoed in my chest.

Like my soul recognized her.

She snapped her fingers.

“Earth to… whoever you are.”

I blinked.

“How are you feeling?”

She tilted her head.

“Don’t you know you shouldn’t walk into someone’s room without permission?”

“I knocked.”

“You didn’t get an answer.”

“So you just walked in?” she said, eyes narrowing — amused, not angry.

“You’re the one I found last night, right? Do you remember anything?”

She smirked.

“Yeah. You almost ran me over.”

“That’s not what I meant.”

“Relax. The grim reaper was busy.”

“I didn’t save you. God did.”

“No,” she said calmly, “but thanks for not killing me.”

“You don’t believe in God?”

She ignored that.

“What’s your name?”

“Ethan Walker. Detective. Yours?”

She leaned back, studying me.

Like she was searching for something hidden.

“Find it yourself… Mr. Walker.”

The door opened.

Two strangers walked in.

She glanced at me.

“Wait outside.”

Five minutes later—

She walked out.

Completely different.

Dry. Composed. Untouchable.

“Let’s go on a blind date,” she said.

“My treat.”

“You don’t have to—”

“Are you rejecting me?”

“…No.”

“Good. Tomorrow. Eight. Grand Mall.”

And she walked away.

Just like that.

The next day—

I searched everything.

Records. Systems.

Nothing.

No name.

No trace.

Like she didn’t exist.

“Walker!”

I looked up.

Detective Morgan stood there.

“You planning to work or stare at your screen forever?”

I told her everything.

She smirked.

“So… a mysterious girl stole your attention?”

“It’s not like that.”

“Oh, it never is.”

“I saw her eyes. Red. Something’s wrong.”

Chris spoke from behind.

“Then ask her tonight.”

Simple. 7:59 PM.

I stood outside the Grand Mall.

The clock struck eight.

And she appeared.

Like she was always there.

A vision.

The world around her felt dull.

“Hello.”

“Let’s go.”

The café was empty.

Completely empty.

Too quiet.

“This place is always crowded…”

“I don’t like crowds,” she said. “So I rented it.”

I looked at her.

“Right…”

“I’m not normal,” she added.

Then—

“I’m not human.”

Silence filled the space between us.

“Your eyes… they were real?”

“Yes.”

“And Aion?”

Her gaze sharpened.

“You ask too many questions.”

“I don’t even know your name, and here I am… on a date with someone who says she’s not human.”

“First, coffee,” she said. “Then we talk.”

Later, we stepped out.

“Let’s go to the amusement park,” she said.

I followed.

Alert.

Lights.

Rides.

Open shops.

No people.

Not a single one.

I stopped.

“This isn’t normal.”

She turned.

Smiling.

Calm.

“What’s wrong, Ethan?”

I snapped.

“The café was empty. The roads were empty. Now this. What is this? Who are you?”

Her smile changed.

Cold.

“I never thought you’d be this easy to trap.”

Before I could react—

Two masked men attacked.

I fought.

Hard.

But they didn’t move.

Didn’t react.

Their grip crushed my arms.

Pain shot through me.

I tried to break free—

A kick sent me to the ground.

Still—

I tried to get up.

Then—

Her eyes.

Glowing red.

This time… clear.

My strength vanished.

Her voice cut through me.

“Everything you saw…”

She stepped closer.

“…was an illusion.”

My vision blurred.

“The café. The park. Even me.”

My heart dropped.

“We never met.”

Silence.

“CCTV will show you waiting… and leaving.”

She leaned closer.

“After that… you disappear.”

I forced the words out—

“…Who are you?”

A sharp pain hit my head.

Darkness took over.

And slowly…

everything faded.

As if the world itself…

was letting go of me.

To be continued….

PART 2 - THE UNVEILING

ILLUSION

Part 2: The Unveiling

Written by Kingson Das

“Beneath every heartbeat lies a secret. Tonight, his will be revealed… and hers will no longer stay hidden.”

Ethan Walker’s eyes slowly opened.

When his vision cleared, the ground beneath him was no longer solid pavement, but cracked, blackened earth, steaming in the cold night air.

Around him rose twisted plants—their stems slick like muscle, their blossoms wide and fleshy. One tilted toward him.

He froze.

At the center of the bloom… was an eye.

Unblinking. Wet. Watching.

Dozens more followed.

Their gaze tracked his every movement. Some blinked slowly, others widened, as if curious. A faint whispering filled the air—not from mouths, but from the swaying of those stalks, each rustle forming words he couldn’t understand.

Above him, the sky churned with smoke and embers, streaks of orange tearing through darkness. The air smelled like burnt metal… and rain that had long since gone bad.

Far away, something moved.

Shapes.

Too far to see clearly… but close enough to feel.

This wasn’t the park.

This wasn’t Earth.

Ethan started walking.

Then running.

But no matter where he went… those eyes followed.

At last, he stopped, breathless, chest rising and falling heavily. The darkness stretched endlessly.

Then—

Footsteps.

Behind him.

He turned—

And froze.

A lion stood there.

Not flesh.

Not bone.

Flames.

A beast made entirely of fire, its burning mane flickering like a living storm. Its predator eyes locked onto Ethan.

It roared.

The force alone threw him to the ground.

Before he could react, it lunged—

Ethan shut his eyes, raising his arms instinctively.

But…

Nothing happened.

He opened them slowly.

The lion’s massive paw rested on his chest.

Heavy.

Crushing.

But not burning.

Not tearing.

Something was wrong.

Even though it was made of fire, it didn’t hurt him.

Even with claws that could shatter stone… it didn’t pierce his skin.

It just held him there.

As if waiting.

Then—

A whistle.

Soft.

The lion lifted its paw.

Ethan gasped, air rushing back into his lungs.

The beast stepped away.

Toward the sound.

“Did my lion scare you too much?”

That voice.

Familiar.

Ethan looked up.

And there she was.

Nyx.

But… not the same.

Her aura was different.

Darker.

Her form almost swallowed by shadows, her eyes glowing a deep, burning red.

She didn’t look human.

Not anymore.

Ethan slowly stood, legs trembling.

Not just from fear—

But from her presence.

It pressed down on him.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

For a moment, he thought he saw the girl from before.

But it vanished.

Gone.

Like she never existed.

“Why…” he forced out, voice shaking,

“why do you look like this?”

She tilted her head.

A smile.

Not warm.

Not kind.

“This,” she said softly, “is who I truly am.”

A pause.

“The real question is… can you still stand before me?”

Ethan swallowed hard.

“Who are you? Where am I? Why are you doing this to me?”

She didn’t answer.

Instead—

She raised her hand.

The lion dissolved into black smoke.

Gone.

Like it was never there.

Silence.

Loud.

Heavy.

She stepped closer.

Ethan stepped back.

Flames erupted around them, forming a perfect circle.

No escape.

No way out.

“Kneel.”

Her voice was low.

Commanding.

Ethan blinked.

“What?”

“I said—kneel.”

This time it wasn’t calm.

It was power.

Raw.

Overwhelming.

His legs gave out.

He dropped to his knees.

Heart pounding like war drums.

“I am Nyx,” she said, her voice echoing through the space,

“a demon from hell. This place… is mine.”

Ethan’s blood ran cold.

“You stand at the gateway of hell itself.”

Fear consumed him.

Completely.

Her eyes narrowed.

“There is something I want from you…”

A pause.

“The Aion.”

Ethan froze.

“Look at me.”

He hesitated—

“LOOK AT ME.”

He lifted his head.

Those eyes.

Burning.

Unforgiving.

“Where is it?”

“I… I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he stammered.

Her expression darkened.

“Don’t lie to me.”

Her hand moved—

Crimson energy wrapped around his throat.

He was lifted into the air.

Choking.

Helpless.

“Give it back to me!” she roared.

His vision blurred.

Air wouldn’t come.

His body weakened.

And then—

Darkness.

He fell.

Lifeless.

Moments later—

Nyx released him.

He hit the ground hard.

For a second—

Her eyes softened.

Regret.

But it vanished just as quickly.

Then—

Ethan gasped.

Alive.

His eyes opened again.

But this time—

He was home.

His house.

Familiar.

But wrong.

Because she was there.

Sitting.

Waiting.

Watching.

Nyx sat like a queen, one leg crossed over the other. Calm. Elegant.

Terrifying.

Ethan tried to move.

Pain exploded through his body.

Bruises.

Neck.

Chest.

Arms.

Everything hurt.

“Don’t even think about escaping,” Nyx said softly.

“You can’t. Not from me.”

Panic hit him.

He ran.

Straight for the door.

Grabbed the handle.

Pulled—

Locked.

He slammed it.

Again.

Again.

Nothing.

A soft laugh echoed behind him.

He turned—

She was already there.

Right behind him.

A knife formed in her hand.

Crimson.

Sharp.

Deadly.

“Don’t come closer!” Ethan shouted.

She smiled.

“Then… experience it.”

She moved.

Fast.

The blade pierced his stomach.

Pain exploded.

He collapsed.

Darkness creeping in again.

Then—

A touch.

He opened his eyes.

Looked down.

The wound—

Gone.

Completely gone.

“What… what are you?” he whispered.

Nyx tilted her head.

“I told you.”

A pause.

“I’m a demon.”

She stepped closer.

“You think I healed you?”

A faint smile.

“No.”

Her eyes locked onto his.

“It’s the Aion inside you.”

Ethan froze.

“You’ve died twice by my hands,” she continued.

“But the Aion… keeps you alive.”

Fear crawled through him.

Slow.

Cold.

“You belong to me now,” she said quietly.

“As long as Aion is inside you… you are bound to me.”

“No…” Ethan shook his head, backing away.

“I’m not yours!”

She laughed.

Cold.

Sharp.

In an instant, she grabbed him—

Lifted him—

And threw him across the room.

He crashed hard.

Pain shot through his body.

She walked closer.

Calm again.

Like nothing happened.

“Next time,” she said softly,

“choose your words carefully.”

A pause.

Her eyes burned.

“I am far stronger than you can imagine… and I am a demon.”

Another step closer.

“Do not expect mercy from me.”

Ethan lay there.

Broken.

Breathing hard.

For the first time—

He understood.

Against her…

He was nothing.

And this—

Was only the beginning.

The unveiling had only just begun.

Part 3 - THE HUNT BEINGS

⚡ ILLUSION

Part 3: The Hunt Begins

Written by Kingson Das

“He runs, she follows—not to punish, but to claim. Tonight, desire and desperation collide.”

Ethan Walker ran.

Not thinking.

Not planning.

Just running.

His breath came in sharp bursts, chest burning, legs screaming with every step. The pain from his bruises hadn’t faded—if anything, it had settled deeper, like a reminder carved into his bones.

But fear was stronger than pain.

Fear pushed him forward.

The hallway stretched endlessly.

Too long.

Too quiet.

Too wrong.

His house… wasn’t his house anymore.

The walls seemed to shift, shadows stretching unnaturally, as if watching him the same way those eye-plants had.

Every step echoed louder than it should have.

Too loud.

Like something wanted him to hear it.

“Running won’t help you.”

Her voice.

Soft.

Close.

Too close.

Ethan didn’t stop.

Didn’t turn.

Didn’t even breathe properly.

He just ran.

His hand slammed against another door.

He opened it—

Darkness.

He stepped inside anyway.

Because behind him—

Was worse.

The door shut on its own.

A click.

Locked.

Silence.

Heavy.

Pressing.

Ethan leaned against the wall, gasping for air.

“Think… think…” he muttered.

But his mind wasn’t working.

Every thought kept circling back to one thing—

Nyx.

Her eyes.

Her voice.

Her power.

“You’re trying to escape me… inside your own world?”

The voice came again.

But this time—

It wasn’t behind him.

It was—

Everywhere.

Ethan froze.

Slowly…

He turned.

She stood there.

Right in front of him.

Nyx.

Unmoving.

Calm.

Watching.

“How…” Ethan whispered, stepping back.

There was nowhere to go.

Still—

He stepped back.

She tilted her head slightly.

“Do you really think walls can stop me?”

Her voice wasn’t loud.

But it filled the room.

Controlled it.

Owned it.

Ethan’s jaw tightened.

“No… but I can try,” he said, forcing strength into his voice.

Even if it wasn’t real.

For a second—

Something changed in her expression.

Not anger.

Not amusement.

Something else.

Then it vanished.

“You’re still trying to resist,” she said.

A faint smile.

“You don’t understand, do you?”

“I understand enough,” Ethan snapped.

“You’re a demon. You want the Aion. Fine. Take it.”

Silence.

Nyx stared at him.

Longer this time.

Deeper.

“If it were that simple…” she said quietly, “you wouldn’t still be alive.”

Ethan’s breath hitched.

She took a step closer.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Ethan stepped back.

Again.

“Stay away,” he warned.

Even though he knew—

It meant nothing.

“Or what?” she asked.

Not mocking.

Just… curious.

Ethan didn’t answer.

Because he didn’t have one.

Nyx moved again.

Faster this time.

Closing the distance in a blink.

Her hand grabbed his wrist.

Firm.

Cold.

Unbreakable.

Ethan tried to pull away.

Nothing.

It was like being held by gravity itself.

“You keep running,” she said softly, her eyes locking onto his.

“But you don’t even know what you’re running from.”

“You,” he said immediately.

Her grip tightened slightly.

Not enough to hurt.

But enough to remind him—

He wasn’t in control.

“No,” she whispered.

“You’re running from what you are.”

Ethan froze.

Her words hit differently.

Not like a threat.

Like truth.

“That thing inside you,” she continued, “the Aion… it’s waking up.”

His heartbeat quickened.

“And you’re afraid,” she said.

“I’m not afraid,” he snapped.

“Then why are you shaking?”

Ethan looked down.

His hands.

Trembling.

Damn it.

Nyx’s fingers moved slightly—

Not tightening.

Not hurting.

Just… holding.

“You feel it, don’t you?” she said.

Ethan swallowed hard.

Because—

He did.

Something inside him.

Warm.

Alive.

Watching.

Like it was listening.

Like it was waiting.

“I don’t know what it is,” he said quietly.

Nyx stepped even closer now.

Too close.

“You don’t need to know,” she murmured.

“You just need to accept it.”

“I’m not accepting anything from you.”

A pause.

Then—

She smiled.

Not dark.

Not cruel.

Different.

“Then I’ll make you understand.”

Her hand moved—

From his wrist…

To his chest.

Right where his heart was.

Ethan stiffened instantly.

“Don’t—”

Too late.

A sudden surge of energy exploded through him.

Light.

Heat.

Power.

Ethan gasped.

His back arched as something inside him awakened.

Not pain.

Not exactly.

Something deeper.

Like his body wasn’t just his anymore.

Like something else had taken notice.

“Feel that?” Nyx whispered.

Ethan couldn’t speak.

His vision blurred.

Colors twisted.

Reality—

Shifted.

And then—

Darkness.

But not empty.

This time—

It wasn’t fear.

It was presence.

Ethan stood somewhere else.

Again.

But this place—

Was different.

No fire.

No monsters.

No eyes.

Just…

Space.

Endless.

Silent.

And in the center—

A light.

Floating.

Breathing.

Alive.

The Aion.

Ethan stared at it.

Drawn to it.

“What… are you…” he whispered.

The light pulsed.

Once.

Twice.

And then—

It moved.

Toward him.

Ethan didn’t step back.

Didn’t run.

This time—

He stayed.

The light stopped right in front of him.

And for a moment—

Everything was still.

Then—

A voice.

Not loud.

Not clear.

But there.

“You… belong…”

Ethan’s eyes widened.

“Belong… to what?” he asked.

Silence.

Then—

The light touched him.

And everything shattered.

Ethan snapped back.

Back to the room.

Back to Nyx.

Back to reality.

He dropped to his knees, breathing hard.

“What… was that…” he gasped.

Nyx stood in front of him.

Watching.

Carefully.

“You saw it,” she said.

Ethan looked up.

“The Aion…” she continued, “is not just power.”

A pause.

“It chooses.”

Ethan’s chest tightened.

“And it chose you.”

“No…” he shook his head.

“Yes.”

Silence.

Heavy.

Ethan pushed himself up slowly.

Still weak.

Still shaking.

“Then why do you need me?” he asked.

Nyx didn’t answer immediately.

For the first time—

She hesitated.

Just a second.

Then—

“It was mine first.”

Ethan froze.

“There it is…” he muttered.

A small truth.

A crack.

He stepped closer.

“You lost it,” he said.

Her eyes flickered.

“And now you want it back.”

Her silence confirmed it.

Ethan let out a slow breath.

“So I’m not the problem,” he said.

“You just want what you lost.”

Nyx’s gaze hardened.

“You have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Then explain,” he challenged.

A long pause.

Then—

She stepped forward.

Close again.

Too close.

“It was never meant for you,” she said.

“Maybe not,” Ethan replied.

“But it’s in me now.”

Their eyes locked.

Tension.

Sharp.

Electric.

“You think that gives you power?” she asked.

“No,” he said quietly.

A pause.

“But it gives me a choice.”

That—

Changed something.

For the first time—

Nyx didn’t look in control.

Just for a second.

Then it was gone.

Her hand shot forward—

Grabbing his collar—

Pulling him closer.

“You don’t get to choose,” she whispered.

Ethan didn’t look away.

“Then make me.”

Silence.

Dangerous.

Unpredictable.

Then—

She let go.

Stepped back.

And smiled.

Not cruel.

Not soft.

Something in between.

“Run,” she said.

Ethan frowned.

“What?”

“Run,” she repeated.

Confusion hit him.

“Why?”

Her eyes glowed faintly.

“Because this time…”

A pause.

“I want to see how far you can go.”

Ethan didn’t wait.

He ran.

Again.

But this time—

It wasn’t just fear.

It was something else.

Something building inside him.

Behind him—

Nyx walked.

Not chasing.

Not rushing.

Just following.

Like she knew—

He wouldn’t get far.

And maybe—

She didn’t want him to.

Ethan turned a corner—

Then another—

Then another—

But the house…

Kept changing.

Stretching.

Breaking.

Reforming.

Like it was alive.

Like it belonged to her.

And he—

Was just moving inside it.

A game.

A hunt.

And he was the prey.

Or maybe—

Something else.

He stopped.

Breathing hard.

Listening.

Nothing.

Silence again.

Too quiet.

Then—

A whisper.

Right behind him.

“Found you.”

Ethan turned—

Too late.

Nyx was already there.

Closer than before.

Closer than ever.

Her hand reached out—

Almost touching his face

But stopped.

Just inches away.

Her eyes locked onto his.

Searching.

Not for fear.

For something else.

Something deeper.

Ethan didn’t move.

Didn’t run.

Didn’t speak.

Because for the first time—

He wasn’t just afraid.

He was… drawn.

And that—

Was far more dangerous.

Nyx smiled faintly.

“Good,” she whispered.

A pause.

“You’re starting to understand.”

Ethan’s voice came out low.

“I’m not running anymore.”

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

“Then what are you doing?”

He looked straight at her.

“Facing you.”

Silence.

Heavy.

Unpredictable.

Then—

She stepped closer.

No space left between them.

“Careful,” she said softly.

“Why?”

Her lips curved slightly.

“Because once you stop running…”

A pause.

“You become mine faster.”

Ethan didn’t step back.

Didn’t break eye contact.

“Then come and take me.”

For a moment—

Everything stopped.

The air.

The sound.

The world.

Then—

Nyx laughed.

Low.

Dark.

Beautiful.

“Interesting…” she whispered.

Her hand finally touched his face.

Cold.

Soft.

Deadly.

“Very interesting.”

Ethan’s heart pounded.

Not just fear.

Something else.

Something dangerous.

Something he didn’t understand yet.

And neither did she.

But both of them felt it.

Clear.

Unavoidable.

And that—

Changed everything.

Nyx stepped back slowly.

Her eyes still locked on him.

“This won’t end quickly,” she said.

A pause.

“It’s just beginning.”

Ethan took a breath.

Steady this time.

Not running.

Not breaking.

Just standing.

Watching her.

Waiting.

For whatever comes next.

Nyx turned away.

But before disappearing—

She looked back once more.

A faint smile.

Predatory.

Certain.

“Run, fight, resist…” she said softly.

“It won’t change the ending.”

A pause.

“You’re already mine.”

And then—

She was gone.

Ethan stood alone.

But not free.

Never free.

Because now—

He understood.

This wasn’t escape.

This wasn’t survival.

This was something else entirely.

A connection.

A bond.

A hunt.

And he—

Was right in the middle of it.

This is only the start of the hunt.
