Terminal Illness+ Regret

HIDDEN PAIN

Mira had been married to Arman for five years.

In the beginning, he used to bring her flowers, wait for her after work, and call her “home.”But people change slowly, then all at once

.Arman got busy.

Then colder.

Then careless

.He stopped noticing the way Mira held her chest when the pain got worse.

Stopped asking why she smiled less.

Stopped coming home on time.

And when he did, his phone was always turned face down.

Mira knew about the other woman long before he thought she did.She never screamed.

Never begged.

Never asked him to stay.

The doctor had already told her the truth anyway:

the disease in her body was spreading fast, and she didn’t have much time left.So she became quieter. She folded his shirts.

Cooked his favorite meals when she had strength.

Sat beside him in silence while he texted someone else.

Sometimes Arman looked at her and feltannoyed by how calm she was.One night he snapped at her.

“Why do you always look at me like that? If you have something to say, then say it.”Mira only smiled faintly and said,

“It’s okay. I’m just tired.”A week later, she was rushed to the hospital after collapsing in the kitchen.Arman almost didn’t go.

He was with his mistress when the call came.

But something in the nurse’s voice made him leave. At the hospital, he signed papers with shaking hands, still not understanding.

Then the doctor asked,

“You’re her husband… you didn’t know she was in late-stage cancer?”The world went silent.Arman stared at the doctor as if the words were in another language.

“No… no, that’s impossible…”The doctor looked at him for a long moment and said softly,

“She’s been receiving treatment for months.”

Months.While he was lying.

While he was cheating.

While she was dying. When he entered her room, Mira looked so small against the white sheets.

He fell beside her bed, crying for the first time in years.“Why didn’t you tell me?” he whispered.Mira turned her head slowly.

Because even then, she still looked gentle.“I did,” she said.

“You were just never really there.”

Arman broke. He begged her not to leave.

Promised he would change.

Promised he would stay.

Promised the kind of things people only say when time is already over.Mira listened quietly.

Then she reached for his hand with what little strength she had.“I loved you,” she said.

“Even when you made it hurt.”By morning, she was gone. After the funeral, Arman went home and found a small box in her closet.

Inside were hospital bills, test reports, painkillers…

and a note.It said:“I didn’t want my last days to be filled with fighting.

I just hoped, at least once, you would look at me and realize I was leaving.”From that day on, regret became his real punishment.

Not because she died.

But because she died loving him,

while he was busy loving someone else
