THE WALL BETWEEN US

The deal

The Wall Between Us

Episode 1: The Deal

The city glittered under the morning sun, glass towers reflecting ambition, power, and secrets hidden behind polished walls.

Lucy Williams stood at the head of the conference table, her posture straight, her expression calm but unyielding. Around her, executives shifted nervously, exchanging uncertain glances.

“Miss Williams…” one of them began cautiously, adjusting his tie. “If we don’t secure this partnership, the company’s losses—”

“We will secure it.”

Lucy didn’t raise her voice. She didn’t need to. Her tone alone silenced the room.

She placed a file down in front of her, her sharp gaze sweeping across the table.

“I don’t lose deals.”

No one dared to argue.

Moments later, the meeting ended. Lucy walked out into the hallway, the sound of her heels echoing with quiet authority. She barely made it a few steps before someone called her name.

“Lucy.”

She stopped.

Jake stood a few feet away, his expression unusually serious.

“You need to come home,” he said. “Now.”

---

The Williams family home felt… different.

Too quiet.

Lucy stepped inside, her eyes immediately landing on her parents. Veronica sat on the couch, her hands clasped together tightly. Mike stood near the window, his back turned.

“Alright,” Lucy said, placing her bag down. “What’s going on?”

No one answered right away.

A strange tension filled the room.

Then Mike turned.

“You’re getting married.”

The words landed like a slap.

Lucy blinked once, her expression barely changing, but her voice came out colder than before.

“…Excuse me?”

“It’s already been decided,” Mike continued. “This is the only way to secure the company’s future.”

Lucy let out a quiet, disbelieving laugh.

“I built this company myself,” she said, her voice tightening. “And now you’re telling me I need to get married to save it?”

“Without this merger,” Mike replied firmly, “you’ll lose everything.”

Silence followed.

Jake looked at her, his voice softer this time. “The Davis Corporation is the only one willing to step in.”

Lucy’s jaw clenched.

“So I’m being traded.”

No one denied it.

That silence told her everything.

---

Across the city, in a high-rise office that overlooked the skyline, Victor Davis stood with his back to the room, his figure framed by the massive window behind him.

The door opened without a knock.

Roslyn walked in, a teasing smile already forming on her lips.

“So,” she said casually, leaning against the wall, “I hear you’re getting married.”

Victor didn’t turn.

“It’s a contract.”

Roslyn raised a brow, amused. “That’s a very romantic way to put it.”

Victor finally shifted slightly, his expression as cold and unreadable as ever.

“It’s a business decision.”

“And the girl?” Roslyn asked.

A brief pause.

“She’s irrelevant.”

---

That night, Lucy sat alone in her room, the city lights flickering in the distance.

A marriage.

Not for love. Not for choice.

For business.

Her fingers tightened slightly against the fabric of her sleeve.

Fine.

---

The next day, they met for the first time.

The private lounge was quiet, elegant, suffocating in its stillness.

Lucy walked in without hesitation.

Victor was already there.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Their eyes met—and something unspoken passed between them. Not warmth. Not curiosity.

Challenge.

Lucy stepped forward, her gaze unwavering.

“So,” she said coolly, “you’re the man I’m being sold to.”

Victor didn’t react.

“If that’s how you see it.”

“It’s exactly what it is.”

There was no fear in her voice. No hesitation.

Victor studied her for a second longer than necessary.

“This marriage benefits you,” he said.

Lucy let out a quiet scoff and stepped closer, closing the distance between them.

“No,” she corrected. “It benefits you too.”

Their eyes locked.

“So don’t act like you’re above it.”

For the first time, something flickered in Victor’s expression—interest, faint but undeniable.

“…You’re different from what I expected,” he said.

“And you’re exactly what I expected.”

The tension between them sharpened.

Victor reached for a document on the table and slid it toward her.

“A contract marriage.”

Lucy glanced down at it.

“No emotions,” Victor continued. “No interference. Publicly married. Privately separate.”

Lucy read it in silence.

Then, without hesitation, she picked up the pen and signed her name.

The sound of it felt louder than it should have.

She slid the paper back toward him.

“Don’t worry,” she said, her tone steady. “I have no interest in you either.”

“Good.”

Victor’s voice remained calm, controlled.

“Then this will be easy.”

Lucy turned to leave—but paused at the door.

“One more thing.”

Victor looked up.

She didn’t turn around.

“Don’t expect me to be the obedient wife.”

There was a brief silence.

Then—

“I wouldn’t want you to be.”

---

And just like that…

The deal was sealed.

A marriage built on power.

On pride.

On a wall neither of them intended to break.

Yet.

The Wedding

The Wall Between Us

Episode 2: The Wedding

The wedding was perfect.

Too perfect.

White roses lined the aisle, delicate and expensive. Crystal lights shimmered above like stars carefully placed for show. Every detail was flawless—designed to impress, to convince, to sell an illusion.

Lucy Williams stood at the entrance, dressed in a gown that felt heavier than it should.

Not because of the fabric.

Because of what it meant.

Her reflection stared back at her from the mirror nearby—elegant, composed, unbreakable.

A bride.

She almost laughed.

“Lucy.”

Jake stepped beside her, his voice softer than usual.

“You don’t have to go through with this.”

Lucy didn’t look at him.

“Yes, I do.”

Her tone was calm. Certain.

“If I walk away now, everything I built collapses with it.”

Jake frowned. “And what about you?”

Lucy finally turned, her expression unreadable.

“I’ll survive.”

At the end of the aisle, Victor Davis stood waiting.

Black suit. Perfect posture. Cold eyes.

He looked like a man attending a meeting, not his own wedding.

Roslyn stood beside him, watching with quiet amusement.

“You look thrilled,” she whispered.

Victor didn’t respond.

His gaze shifted toward the entrance—

—and stopped.

Lucy.

For a brief second, something changed in his expression.

Not warmth.

Not admiration.

But awareness.

She walked forward, each step steady, controlled. The room seemed to fade, all eyes locked on her—but she only saw one person.

Victor.

So this is the man I’m marrying.

The ceremony began.

Words were spoken. Promises made.

Empty promises.

Lucy barely listened.

Victor’s voice was calm as he repeated the vows, his tone unwavering, detached.

When it was her turn, Lucy spoke just as clearly.

No hesitation.

No emotion.

“To have and to hold…”

The words felt foreign.

This is just a contract.

“Do you take—”

“I do.”

They answered at the same time.

A pause.

A ripple of quiet surprise passed through the guests.

Lucy and Victor glanced at each other briefly.

The first crack.

“Then you may kiss the bride.”

Silence.

The moment stretched.

Lucy’s breath hitched slightly—barely noticeable.

Victor stepped closer.

Too close.

She could feel the warmth of him now, the contrast to his cold presence.

It’s just for show.

That’s all it was supposed to be.

Victor’s hand lightly touched her chin, tilting her face up.

Controlled. Careful.

But not distant.

Their eyes met.

For the first time… it didn’t feel like a deal.

It felt—

Dangerous.

The kiss was brief.

But not meaningless.

Lucy felt it.

And judging by the slight pause before Victor pulled away—

So did he.

Applause filled the room.

Cameras flashed.

The perfect couple.

The perfect lie.

The reception was louder, brighter, more suffocating.

Lucy stood beside Victor, smiling politely as guests approached one after another.

“Congratulations.”

“You look stunning.”

“A perfect match.”

If only they knew.

Victor’s hand rested lightly on her waist.

Possessive enough to look real.

Distant enough to mean nothing.

Lucy leaned slightly closer, her smile never fading.

“Your grip is a little tight,” she murmured under her breath.

“People are watching,” Victor replied calmly.

“So? You think I’ll run away?”

Victor’s eyes flickered down to her.

“…Would you?”

Lucy smirked faintly.

“Not yet.”

Across the room, a woman watched them.

Elegant. Sharp.

Her gaze lingered on Victor a second too long.

Then on Lucy.

Cold.

“Victor.”

The woman approached, her heels clicking softly.

Lucy felt the shift immediately.

Victor’s expression didn’t change—but something in the air did.

“Took you long enough,” the woman said smoothly.

Lucy’s smile remained, but her eyes sharpened.

“And you are?”

The woman looked at her, measuring.

“Samantha Hale.”

A pause.

Then—

“Victor and I go way back.”

Lucy felt it.

That subtle, quiet tension.

She turned slightly toward Victor.

“You didn’t mention her.”

Victor’s voice was neutral.

“It wasn’t necessary.”

Samantha smiled faintly.

“Some things are better left unsaid.”

Lucy’s fingers curled slightly at her side.

But her expression?

Still flawless.

“Of course,” she said smoothly. “After all… this marriage is just business, right?”

Victor looked at her.

Really looked this time.

Lucy met his gaze without hesitation.

A silent challenge.

A silent warning.

Later that night—

The celebration ended.

The guests were gone.

The noise faded.

The mansion was quiet.

Too quiet.

Lucy stepped inside, her heels echoing against the marble floor. The space was massive, elegant… and unfamiliar.

Cold.

She paused, taking it in.

“This is where I live now.”

“It’s temporary.”

Victor’s voice came from behind her.

Lucy turned.

He had already removed his jacket, his sleeves slightly rolled up. Less formal.

Still distant.

Lucy crossed her arms.

“Everything about this is temporary.”

Victor walked past her, unbothered.

“You’ll have your own room.”

Lucy raised a brow.

“How considerate.”

“I don’t share space.”

Lucy smirked slightly.

“Good. Neither do I.”

A pause.

Silence settled between them again.

But this time—

It felt different.

Closer.

Sharper.

Lucy took a step toward him.

Then another.

Victor didn’t move.

“Let’s make one thing clear,” she said, her voice low.

“This may be a contract to you…”

She stopped right in front of him.

“But I don’t lose.”

Victor’s gaze darkened slightly.

“Neither do I.”

For a moment—

Neither of them stepped back.

Neither of them looked away.

The space between them felt charged. Dangerous.

Like something was about to break.

Lucy was the first to turn.

“Goodnight… husband.”

She walked away without looking back.

Victor stood there, watching her disappear down the hallway.

His expression unreadable.

But his mind—

Not as calm as before.

This wasn’t just a contract anymore.

It was a war.

And neither of them planned to lose.

The first night

The Wall Between Us

Episode 3: The First Night

The mansion was too quiet.

Lucy stood in the center of her new room, arms crossed, eyes scanning every detail—the high ceilings, the polished floors, the expensive furniture that felt more like decoration than comfort.

Nothing here felt like home.

It felt like a display.

Like her.

She exhaled slowly and slipped off her heels, placing them neatly by the door. For a moment, she just stood there, staring at the unfamiliar space.

This is temporary.

That’s what Victor said.

She intended to make sure it stayed that way.

---

Across the hall, Victor loosened his tie, his reflection staring back at him through the mirror.

Everything had gone exactly as planned.

The merger was secured. The deal was signed. The public image was flawless.

So why…

His grip on the tie tightened slightly.

Why did that moment at the altar linger in his mind?

Lucy’s eyes.

Clear. Steady. Challenging.

Not once had she looked at him like he was above her.

If anything—

She looked at him like an equal.

Victor exhaled sharply and pushed the thought away.

Irrelevant.

---

A knock interrupted the silence.

Victor opened the door to find Roslyn leaning casually against the frame, arms folded, a knowing smile on her face.

“Well,” she said, glancing past him. “How’s married life?”

Victor stepped aside just enough to block her view.

“Say what you came to say.”

Roslyn smirked. “She’s not what you expected, is she?”

Victor didn’t answer.

“That’s dangerous,” she continued, her tone light but observant. “You like control. And she doesn’t look like someone who can be controlled.”

“She won’t be a problem.”

Roslyn tilted her head.

“That’s not what I asked.”

A brief silence passed between them.

Victor’s gaze darkened slightly.

“…She’s irrelevant.”

Roslyn let out a soft laugh.

“You keep saying that,” she said, pushing off the wall. “Let’s see how long that lasts.”

---

Lucy stepped out of her room, now dressed in something more comfortable—but still elegant. Effortless.

She wasn’t about to look weak in this house.

As she walked down the hallway, she paused.

Voices.

Victor’s door was slightly open.

“…she’s irrelevant.”

Lucy froze.

Her expression didn’t change.

But something inside her… shifted.

Roslyn’s voice followed, softer, almost amused.

“Then you won’t mind if someone else gets her attention.”

Lucy didn’t stay to hear the rest.

She turned and walked away.

---

The kitchen lights were still on.

Lucy poured herself a glass of water, her movements calm, precise.

Irrelevant.

She took a slow sip.

Of course.

That’s what this was.

A deal.

Nothing more.

So why did it bother her?

---

“Couldn’t sleep?”

Victor’s voice cut through the silence.

Lucy didn’t turn immediately. She set the glass down before facing him.

“I could ask you the same.”

Victor walked in, his presence instantly filling the space.

“I don’t sleep early.”

Lucy leaned lightly against the counter.

“Neither do I.”

A pause.

The air between them felt different now.

Sharper.

---

Victor’s gaze rested on her, more focused than before.

“You shouldn’t be walking around alone.”

Lucy raised a brow.

“Are you worried about me?”

“No.”

The answer came too quickly.

Lucy smirked faintly.

“Good. Because I don’t need you to be.”

---

Silence again.

But this time, it wasn’t empty.

It was charged.

---

Victor stepped closer.

Not too close.

But close enough.

“This house has rules,” he said calmly.

Lucy didn’t move.

“So does my life,” she replied.

Their eyes locked.

“Then make sure they don’t clash.”

Lucy let out a soft laugh.

“That sounds like a warning.”

“It is.”

---

Lucy straightened, pushing off the counter.

“Let me make something clear, Victor.”

She stepped closer.

Just like earlier.

Just like the first time they stood like this.

“I didn’t marry you to follow your rules.”

Victor’s gaze lowered slightly, noticing the defiance in every detail—her posture, her tone, the way she refused to step back.

“And I didn’t marry you to argue.”

“Then you chose the wrong person.”

---

A beat.

Then—

Something unexpected.

Victor almost smiled.

Almost.

---

Lucy noticed.

And for a second—

She didn’t know what to do with it.

---

The moment broke as quickly as it came.

Lucy turned away first, grabbing her glass again.

“I’ll stay out of your way,” she said casually. “You stay out of mine.”

Victor watched her carefully.

“That won’t be possible.”

Lucy paused.

“…Why not?”

---

Victor stepped closer again.

Closer than before.

This time, the distance between them was almost nothing.

“Because,” he said quietly, “we’re married.”

Lucy’s breath caught—just slightly.

Annoyingly noticeable.

---

For a second—

Neither of them moved.

Neither of them spoke.

The tension wasn’t just sharp anymore.

It was… something else.

Something dangerous.

---

Lucy was the first to step back.

Breaking it.

“I’m going to sleep.”

Her voice was steady again.

Controlled.

Victor didn’t stop her.

But his eyes followed her as she walked away.

---

Lucy reached her door, her hand resting on the handle.

She hesitated.

Just for a second.

Then went inside.

---

Victor stood alone in the kitchen.

Silent.

Still.

---

She was supposed to be irrelevant.

So why…

…did he notice everything about her?
